Chapter 4

Author: Hunk Alert
Jessie's smile froze, and she just stood there, like her brain had gone blank, her brows knitting tight.

"What the hell are you talking about?" she spat.

She stepped right up to me, her voice sharp with arrogance. "If you're really married, then why isn't your wife here with you?"

I gave her a mocking smile. "She's on a work trip. Not everyone's some lazy deadweight who needs a man to survive."

Before Jessie could blow up, Oliver's eyes went red, tears springing up on the spot. "Mr. Searle, how could you say that about Jessie?"

His deliberate pause made Jessie turn on me, her eyes full of disappointment and anger.

"Callum, you're being so bitter and mean right now. Who would even want you except me? Listen. Stop with the hard-to-get act. It just makes me look down on you even more!"

I was done holding back. "Security! Are you deaf or what? Get these two out of here!"

The guards rushed over, grabbed them from both sides, and dragged them away.

Jessie thrashed and screamed, her face twisted in rage. "Callum! How dare you do this to me? You'll regret it!"

That same night, I got a text from an unknown number.

"Did you really think you could take Jessie away from me? Guess what? She never cared about you. She's already on vacation overseas with me, living her best life."

I didn't need to guess who sent it. I blocked the number immediately.

Around then, Alan and Erica still wouldn't give up. They continued to show up at my door, but I shut them out every single time.

A week later, I checked Mabel's landing time and drove to the airport to pick her up.

The moment I stepped into the international arrivals hall, I ran right into Jessie and Oliver. They were both a little tanned, wearing sunglasses, looking like they'd just come back from an easy vacation.

Jessie spotted me and gave me a smug grin. "I knew you couldn't let me go. You even came all the way here to pick me up."

I didn't bother answering and just stared at her like she'd forgotten to bring half her brain.

Oliver jumped in with that fake-sweet tone of his. "Come on, Mr. Searle, don't be mad. Jessie didn't mean to leave you behind. You're her fiance. You should be more understanding."

Jessie clearly loved hearing that. She tried to loop her arm through mine, but I shifted out of reach before she could touch me.

She didn't get angry. If anything, she looked even more smug, convinced I was just throwing a tantrum.

"Alright, cut it out. Once we get our marriage registered, I'll make it up to you with an even fancier honeymoon, okay?"

I walked right past the two of them and rushed toward Mabel as she came out, wrapping my arms around her. "Welcome home, babe."

Mabel hugged me back and tipped her head up to press a soft kiss against my cheek.

Behind me, Jessie's smug smile vanished in an instant.

There was a moment of stunned silence, then she exploded, furious and humiliated. "Callum Searle! Are you done with this ridiculous show?"

She stormed toward us and jabbed a finger at Mabel. "You seriously hired an actress just to piss me off? Nice performance. How much did he pay you? Name your price. I'll give you ten times more, and you can get lost right now!"

Mabel stepped in front of me, blocking me from view, her eyes going dark and her whole vibe turning icy.

I grabbed her arm and moved to stand beside her, watching as Jessie's face twisted with anger. "Jessie, weren't you dying to meet my wife?"

I looped my arm through Mabel's and gave a wide smile. "Let me introduce her. This is my wife, Mabel Jones."

Jessie's face went pale. "It's you?"

Mabel instinctively shielded her stomach.I stepped in front of her and leveled Jessie with a hard look. "Ms. Clarke, back off from my wife."Jessie didn't even react to what I said. She just stared at me, her eyes burning with resentment and hate."Why? Why do you get to have a happy life? You wrecked everything for me. You wrecked the Clarkes. So how are you still this happy?"Watching her cling to her own delusions almost made me laugh. "I ruined you? Jessie, the only person who ever wrecked your life was you. It was your arrogance, your selfishness, your own stupidity."You were the one who threw everything away. And as for why I get to be this happy…"I turned to Mabel, who was looking up at me with a quiet warmth.I smiled at her, then turned back to Jessie, putting weight behind every word. "Because I chose the right person."My last line broke whatever was still holding Jessie together. She lunged at Mabel like she'd come unhinged, screaming, "I'll kill you, you bitch!"

One night, Jessie showed up at my place drunk out of her mind, slamming her fists against the gates."Callum Searle! Open the gates! Get out of here! You bastard! How could you be so heartless? Did all our years together mean nothing to you? My dad's dying! And Clarke Group is about to collapse!"Are you really just going to stand there and watch me die?"I watched from the second-floor window, my expression flat as she unraveled by the gates.Mabel stepped in behind me, wrapped her arms around my waist, and murmured, "Stop looking. She's an eyesore. I'll have security get rid of her."I shook my head. "No, it's fine."I stepped out onto the balcony and looked down at Jessie. She was once someone untouchable, yet now she was nothing more than a crumpled mess on the ground. "Jessie. You finally get what you did?"She snapped her head up at the sound of my voice, her bloodshot eyes wild and swollen. Then she dropped to her knees and broke down, sobbing as she begged."Callum...

Scattered applause flickered through the room. Most people were only here for the drama.I stood by the pews, taking in the whole ridiculous scene.Mabel tightened her grip on my hand and whispered, "Do you want me to get you out of here?"I shook my head, a slow, amused smile spreading across my face. "No. The real show's just getting started. Why would I leave now?"With the microphone in hand, I walked toward the altar.Every gaze snapped to me at once.Jessie watched with barely contained panic, terrified I'd drop another bomb.I faced the guests and the cameras lined up by the pews, giving them a polite smile. "First of all, congratulations to Ms. Clarke and Mr. Grant on getting married and leveling up their careers."I paused, reached into my jacket, and lifted the marriage certificate I'd brought with me."Second, I want to clear something up. I registered my marriage with my wife, Mabel Jones, half a month ago. I'm here today strictly as a guest to offer my congratulat

Jessie froze, caught off guard. The second she saw Oliver heading toward her, the color drained from her face. She dropped her voice, panic edging in. "Oliver? What are you doing here?"He stopped right in front of her and eased an arm around her shoulders like it was the most normal thing in the world."Jessie, it's our wedding day," he said softly. He leaned in, his breath brushing her ear. "Did you forget our plan? If we get married today, I can finally help you. My uncle's one of Norteford's famous investors. If he steps in, Clarke Group's crisis is pretty much over."Jessie jolted, the memory snapping back into place.A few days earlier, Oliver had brought it up, bragging about his wealthy uncle and how, if they got married, he could convince the man to invest in Clarke Group.Back then, she'd been too fixated on winning me back to take him seriously. Now, with cameras everywhere and guests whispering from every direction, she felt cornered with no way out.If anything el

Jessie really went all out this time, turning the wedding into an even bigger spectacle than the last one.She invited every media outlet in the city, and the trending lists across every platform were basically hers for the day. Headline after headline said the same thing."Fiercely devoted, Clarke Group CEO Jessie Clarke makes things right with a long-delayed wedding of the century for the Searle heir."Mom and Dad were so furious that they almost marched over to the Clarke residence to confront her, but I stopped them."Mom, Dad, don't stress. Just enjoy the show."I calmed them, already running through the plan I'd mapped out in my head.…On the day of the wedding, I wore a suit that felt comfortable but still looked sharp. Mabel wore a cocktail dress that matched my suit. She held my hand as we walked in together.By the time we arrived, the place was packed, with camera flashes going off nonstop.Jessie stood at the end of the aisle in a white wedding gown, wearing a smi

The second Jessie realized it was Mabel, her expression hardened. "Callum, do you seriously think I'm that stupid?"She jabbed a finger at Mabel. "Isn't she the stand-in I paid 200,000 dollars for? Was the fake wedding not enough? Now you're parading her around like she's your wife too?"Oliver covered his mouth like he was shocked, but the look he shot me was nothing but disgust."Mr. Searle, how could you do this? Jessie's already run ragged dealing with Clarke Group's mess. Instead of helping her, you bring someone in to put on a show just to rile her up. That's insanely inconsiderate."Then he turned to Jessie, acting all considerate as he tried to calm her down. "Jessie, don't let him get to you. He's obsessed with you, that's all. He probably pulled this just to get your attention."Jessie's expression softened at his words."Callum, I really underestimated you. You'd actually pull something this low just to force me back?" she snapped.I lost it. "Jessie, are you serious
