Chapter 10

In the living room.

Tang Mengyu met the elders of the Lu family one by one.

Lu Zhiguo, the patriarch, took over a blue velvet brocade box from his servant. "Mengyu, here is Grandpa’s wedding gift for you. Come and see if you like it."

Tang Mengyu obediently walked over and received the box with both her hands. "Thank you, Grandpa."

"Open it and have a look. It's left by your grandma. She used to say that among her grandsons, whoever first gets married, his wife is supposed to have it." The patriarch raised his hand and rubbed at the sparse white beard on his chin, smiling all the time with his eyes half-closed.

Lu Zhengnan raised the corners of his lips, facing Tang Mengyu and said, "This is Grandma's heirloom."

"So valuable?" Tang Mengyu was about to open the box, but she hesitated, and her hand paused. "I..."

Aunt Lu Zhengfen noticed her hesitation and smiled lovingly. "It's not valuable in the ordinary sense, but your grandmother said it would be given to someone who was destined. If you like it at first sight, then take it; if not, just put it back."

Hearing that, Tang Mengyu was relieved. She nodded and opened the brocade box.

On the bottom of the bright yellow satin, there lay a blood-red round jade pendant quietly. It had the texture of some white inside.

Tang Mengyu didn't know much about jade. At a glance, however, she felt a sense of amiable familiarity. Something glittered a bit before her, and she picked it up.

The jade felt cold in her hand with beams of sunlight reflecting on it. Tang Mengyu saw a flash in front of her eyes, and the red inside the jade seemed to flow. She was curious and picked it up to look in the sun. "Wow, how amazing! It's like a human blood vessel with its blood inside flowing."

All the elders on the sofa were stunned towards her words.

"Don't be scary. I've seen that jade pendant. When did it become flowing inside?" Zhou Qiuyue snorted scornfully.

Lu Zhengfen and her father took a look at each other, their eyes full of joy.

"Sister-in-law, there is something you don't know. My mother said that the purer one’s mind, the more blood flowing inside one could see. Since we have lived through half of our lifetime, our eyes are long stained by the earthly life. So we can't see the mystery in it, " Lu Zhengfen explained.

Tang Mengyu was stunned for a moment. Then she quickly put the jade pendant back into the brocade box, covered it, and handed it to the patriarch with both her hands. "Grandpa, it must be a very precious treasure to be so magical. I can’t take it."

"What are you saying! It's said that jade and people are particularly tied to their fates. We have all witnessed that you are indeed destined for this jade pendant. Take it, kid!" said the patriarch kindly, pausing his dragon head decorated walking stick on the carpet.

"This, Zhengnan..." Tang Mengyu consulted Lu Zhengnan.

After all, it was a flash marriage between her and Lu Zhengnan. They had no feelings for each other before that, so she felt a bit of guilty to take it.

The man in the wheelchair looked down and took a sip of his tea. Then he faced her and said, "Mengyu, if you refuse to accept it again, Grandpa will think you don't want to be his granddaughter-in-law."

Tang Mengyu's face flushed red, and she bowed respectfully to the patriarch. "Thank you, Grandpa."

"Nice girl!" The patriarch raised his head and laughed heartily.

Just as his laughter fell, a figure walked into the living room, accompanied by a joking voice, "What's the joy? Why did Grandpa laugh so happily?"

Tang Mengyu turned aside out of curiosity. When she saw the man coming in, the brocade box in her hand fell to the carpet in great surprise.

The man was handsome with his height around six feet three inches... That was not the point.

The point was that the man's facial outlines and in-depth features were like a carved sculpture...which looked exactly the same as the man in the wheelchair!

Tang Mengyu lowered her eyes and looked at the man in the wheelchair beside her intuitively. She opened her mouth in astonishment when she was sure that the two were identical. "Twins?"

Lu Zhengfen got up and picked up the brocade box on the carpet. She handed it to Tang Mengyu and said with a gentle smile, "Mengyu, you are so surprised to meet Zhengbei. It seems that you don’t know Zhengnan has a twin brother, do you?"

"Thank you, Aunt! I don't." Tang Mengyu bit her lips awkwardly and took over the brocade box.

She was so ill-informed that she had never heard that Lu Zhengnan was one of the twins!

Lu Zhengbei walked over while they were talking. He glanced at the crowd, greeted them one by one, and finally fixed his eyes on Tang Mengyu. "This is my brother's wife?"

Some interest and teasing were reflected in the eyes of the man falling on Tang Mengyu. There was even a hint of disdain as the smile on his face was uninhibited.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Tang Mengyu." Tang Mengyu nodded to him lightly.

After having a close observation of the look on Lu Zhengbei's face, she suddenly realized that although the two brothers appeared exactly alike, their expressions were completely different, especially the same bottomless deep eyes.

Despite his blindness, there was always tenderness and softness coming out from Lu Zhengnan's eyes. His face also occurred with rare calm, which had no resemblance to the man who was rumored to be violent and a mass murderer.

On the contrary, Lu Zhengbei looked like a dandiacal and cunning ruffian.

Neither her family nor Zhou Shaohui had ever mentioned to her that the Lu family had twins.

Was it a secret?
