Chapter Ten

IRIS

"How did you find the food?" Enyinnaya asked, the minute we left the restaurant of the hotel.

"It was really delicious. I enjoyed every serving. I especially liked the choice of wine you made, it must have been quite expensive seeing it's quality. What's the name again?"

"It's a nineteen ninty eight Dom perignon rose champagne with about twelve percent alcohol or thereabout. If I was drinking alone, I would have requested for a champagne with more alcohol percentage.  Anyway, Seeing as you loved it that much, perhaps I should get you one when we are ready to leave."

"That would be really appreciated." I replied. "So where next? "

"You will see." He answered with a mischievous smile.

I was slowly being eaten up by curiosity as we journeyed to our destination. As if the stars knew how curious I was, it didn't take long before we got there. To say I was amazed at the sight doesn't even begin to describe how I felt.

"It's beyond beautiful." I said still completely immersed in the beauty of the sight before me. It was the hotel's water park, an absolute beauty in all the definition of the word 'beautiful'."

"Guess you like it then." Enyinnaya said.

"What!! I love it.'" I exclaimed like a child who was given a cup of ice cream with his or her favourite flavour.

We spent a few hours there, talking about nothing in particular but with every word he said, I began to see him in a new light. He wasn't that bad if one got to know him better and I felt I was beginning to. He cracked jokes, some were funny and made me laugh, some weren't and I laughed at him for cracking a dry joke. I also noticed he paid attention to every detail about my reaction to his words and the park. He knew what made me laugh, what got me disgusted, what angered me and soon he started asking questions about my reactions. I have to admit that some of the questions he asked were quite intelligent others were just plain foolish ones that almost got me all riled up. All in all, it was a wonderful experience.

After spending some time there, we visited other plausible places within the hotel site. We went from the water park to go diving and windsurfing as the weather seemed favourable, however one of the most remarkable experience was when Enyinnaya had insisted we visit the tennis court and even though I was outrightly against it, he managed to maneuver a positive response from me. What I later got to find out was that a visit to the the tennis court was just an act to display his dexterity at the game of tennis.

Boy! Was he so good at it!

It was already some minutes to seven P. M and I thought we were going to return to our hotel room, but Enyinnaya had other plans for us. I was so tired and needed my rest so I tried to convince him to change his plan as we could do that the next day, but he completely refused.

"Look at me Enyinnaya, I am so stressed out and need my rest, can't we just do this tomorrow, please." I requested of him.

"You are tired, very tired, that much I can see, and that is exactly why I am suggesting we visit this place. Nne' Biko"  he pleaded in Igbo language. "I can assure you that you won't regret coming with me."

"I have to know where we are going before I can decide." I replied obstinately.

"If I tell you that now, it won't be a surprise anymore. When we get there you will see for yourself."

"I have had enough surprises for the day, so, if you won't tell me where you want to take me to, then I won't move an inch from here." Perhaps he saw how serious I was, so , he decided to talk.

"Fine. It's the spa. I saw how tired you looked and, I figured you would need a massage and maybe a Jacuzzi bath, to make you feel better. So are you in or not?"

I sighed in satisfaction. The guy knew how to treat a lady like a queen, and he also knew how to get to me, cause there was no how I would pass on a chance to visit the spa and get a good massage.

"I will go but doesn't all this activities require additional charges?" I washed genuinely knowing how expensive the hotel cost, I knew, if all this activities were charged for it wouldn't be 'chicken change'.

"They are "

"So why are you doing this, we can just remain indoor and enjoy each other's company." Immediately I said so, I regretted saying it. How could I have been stupid enough to let him know I enjoyed his company.

"Iris, your man is not broke. So let me take care of you." he replied and started out on his walk to the spa.

I felt my heart flutter when he had referred to himself as my man. He had to be right, I mean, Enyinnaya Amadi; the gorgeous being walking before me was my Weekend boyfriend, I guess, otherwise, why would he call himself my man.

"Wetin dey do you self?" I whispered to myself in Nigerian pidgin. It was obvious I was letting Enyinnaya get under my skin and that was quite scary even to me. I knew it would only hurt me if I kept getting attracted to him.

"You should stop this, no, you must stop this." I warned myself again, while strolling obediently behind him like a loyal puppy.
