Lucas
I woke up feeling as if my entire world had fallen into place. I had found my mate and we had completed the bond during the previous nights haze. I smiled, rolling over to pull her to my, only to find the bed empty where she had lain the night before. I sniffed the air, hoping her scent would lead me to her in another part of my house. Instead, it led me to the front door. She had slipped out before I had awoken.
‘Why would our mate abandon us?’ My wolf, Hades whined in my mind.
‘She’s not just a wolf, Hades, she’s a woman. She probably had shit to take care of’

SeleneI knew it had been stupid to leave my scent uncovered as I ran back across the border. It couldn’t be helped though. I had abandoned my kit in the motel and ran, my only objective was to get home and find answers. I needed to stop the hit on the Alpha until I could break our bond. SeleneI was a little surprised as I made my way down the long gravel drive, arriving at a small cottage. I knew it made sense for the leader of the guild to maintain a non-descript home, being flashy would make him easier to find, but I wasn’t quite prepared for how small his home actually was. I parked in front of the tiny house and quickly made my way to the door. My senses had been in overdrive since the Alpha had contacted me through the bond at my parent’s home and I was ready to find answers so I could complete my assignment. “Selene.” Called a man from the doorway of the home. “I’ve been expecting you. Your father called. My name is Alistair.”

I adjusted my top to show a little cleavage and made quick work of stretching seductively before the two guards. I intended to play with them until the next shift change in the hopes they would take me from the room with them. I may have been an exhibitionist, but I drew the line at being indecent in front of children. Their presence didn’t stop me from acting flirtatiously with the men, allowing them to catch the scent of my arousal. I smiled coyly as their eyes darkened when my scent hit their noses. I could tell by the low growl emanating from one man’s chest that at least one of them would be taking me with them when they left the room. After what I estimated to be two hours, there was a knock on the door. It was time for the shift change.

It took time to pick up my mate’s scent of apples and cinnamon because of the need to run along the border to find where she had crossed. I had delivered the child to the priestesses and gotten answers about breaking my mate bond. Unfortunately, the answers weren’t ones I had wanted. My father looked at me with sympathy and shrugged as my mother prattled on about how wonderful it was to have an Alpha in the house. I wanted to vomit. I wasn’t certain how long I would be stuck with the Alpha, but I knew it would take time for Rory to find the appropriate voltage and for us to scope out a location that wouldn’t draw attention. There was one thing still bothering me as I walked into my parent’s home and made my way to my childhood bedroom. I had been told that Lucas was intending to kidnap the King’s daughter when I had been assigned to kill him. Even with the mate bond, it didn’t make sense to me that he would have gone through all the trouble to find me if that were still his plan. I decided I needed to talk to him. All thoughts of a conversation fled from my mind when I entered my room to find Lucas sprawled out in my bed.
