Chapter Four – I am not the only werewolf

I am lifted by Nicholas as he stands up. And with a daring look, he said, "Come on, Barbie! Race you back!" Oh, he is so pompous! As I shifted while jumping, I shouted, "Game on!" Do I have a competitive streak? Yes, with a capital "C".

As I ran and jumped over him, I thought I would leave him behind. But I was wrong. He leaped over me to lead the way. Obviously, I'm not having it. In all honesty, it was fun hanging out with someone like me. The wolves enjoyed their time as well. Besides prancing around, Kiki was also competitive, attempting to outrun the wolf.

We found the field was empty when we shifted back and returned. I looked for my friends, but they had left. Because neither team captain was present, all members of the team left.

We find out that they have moved the game to tomorrow. I entered the locker room to get dressed. It seems the girls have gotten another ride home. There is no sign of them in the parking lot. Nicolas' bus was still waiting for them in the parking lot.

Nicolas walked out of the school doors with a smile on his face. When he walks over to me, he says, "Well, see you tomorrow." with a grin. I ask, "Where is your team staying?" and he grins back at me. There's a small hotel in town, he says.

Are you interested in a ride? As I put my hair behind my ear, I sheepishly ask. As he throws his bag into my back seat, he says, "Hold on.". After running over to the bus, he tells them he will catch up with them later.

Seeing the girl's green eyes narrow and flicker, I have a feeling she is glaring at me. "Who does she think she is? She should know better than to stare at me!"

Nicholas jumps into my car, smiling from ear to ear. Then I mention casually to Nicholas, "Nicolas, it looks like you have a jealous girlfriend staring at me." He looks sheepish. "She won't accept that I don't want her as my girlfriend." I shrugged my shoulders like I didn't care.

Though I felt somewhat jealous inside, I did not show it. Nicolas grins at me. Okay, what should we do next? As I take off, he leans back into the seat and puts his hands behind his head. I remind him to fasten his seatbelt.

Having driven downtown, I let my girls know we would eat at Cullies, the local hangout. My girls greet us at the café with big grins on their faces when they see Nicolas and I sitting together.

Throughout the room, I hear whispers of shock that Nicolas got to sit at the Barbie table. That is one name that I detest. Jeffrey appears to be upset when Nicolas sits next to him. When Stacy sees him looking at me, she pouts.

Sheesh Jeffrey doesn't take hints from anyone. I'm not interested in him. Nicholas sees me look Jefferies' way and smirks as he whispers in my ear. "Looks like you have someone staring at us, too." I just slap his shoulder softly and laugh. "Yep, same story as yours," I respond. Calling my parents, I inform them of my location. I never want them to be concerned about me.

I had a blast at Cullies, and we teased Nicolas about his team and how we were going to win. We asked him questions about his high school. When will he graduate, how old is he, and will he go to college?

It seems like the girls want to know if he has cute friends. He smiles and shrugs, not responding to the question.

I was in the car when we left. Then I sighed and looked at him, sighing: "You never responded to the girls about cute friends." I muttered.

"Most of my friends won't date humans because they smell funny to us." We can't tell them what we really are." I drive him to the hotel and drop him off after exchanging cell phone numbers. I wave goodbye and start driving away. I guess I can't blame them. I too never dated humans because I didn't want my secret to be known.

-Nicolas-

I watch Alexi drive off. I so have a crush on her. I wonder who her real pack was? How has she got to this small town? Who left her here and why? I am going to call around and find out.

I turn around and there stands Sam (Samantha) angry as can be. "Nicolas, what were you doing with her?" She yells at me. I shrug nonchalantly, "None of your business, you and I are not boyfriend and girlfriend. I have told you that many times." I walk past her through the doors and up to my shared room with some of the other guys.

The guys are so much fun. They are whistling and howling as I walk in. Hey, saw you take off with the Hot Captain of the Falcons. One guy yelled at me.

I shrugged and did not answer them. She is special to me and not to be a topic amongst my friends.

I went over to my bed and laid down to stare at the ceiling. I thought maybe I will text her. Then I thought she was probably having dinner with her parents right now.

I know she wanted to get some information from them. I just will wait until later. I also do not want to seem like I am desperate and stalking her.

Alexi - I walk up the wooden steps to my front door and open it. I can smell Lasagna cooking. I hear my mother yell out for me to set the table. I walk in and grab the plates from the cupboards and the utensils from the drawers. I grab some napkins and set the dining room table. I feel nervous because tonight I am going to ask them about who I am really am.

My mother puts out the food with my help. It's my mother who carries out the lasagna, and me who carries out the honey buns and salad.

My stomach is grumbling after today. I sipped on a strawberry banana shake at Cullies but did not eat there. I am a wolf, after all. We have enormous appetites.

It has always puzzled my parents at how I can eat so much and not gain any weight. Even though I am totally into sports, I still eat more than the average person would.

We clear the plates after dinner, and then we return to the table for dessert. As we talk about the day, we laugh.

This evening will be different, because of the subject. My parents can sense my nervousness. Both have dark hair, and mom has green eyes and dad has gray eyes. My blonde-gold hair and sapphire blue eyes match those of my wolf.

Looking down, I put my hair behind my ear so I wouldn't see their hurt eyes. When I ask my parents, "Who am I?" they seem confused.

"What do you mean by who am I?" my father asks.

"Mom, Dad, I know you aren't my biological parents." I speak. Dad, you have dark hair and gray eyes - mom, you have dark hair and green eyes.

I would say that you both have olive skin tones. My skin is ivory-colored, my hair is golden blonde, and my eyes are Sapphire-colored. Can you please tell me? I am begging you." I hear a sigh from my mother. I look up and see her conflicting emotions.

I turn and my dad looks at me and then looks down at the table and he states, "we knew this day would come. We just did not know how to tell you. We looked at you as our own, as if you were biologically ours to the point. We did not want you to believe anything else. For that I am sorry it was selfish of us. We do not even know when your birthday is. We are just guessing because you were only an infant, and it was October, so we assume you were born in September. I am guessing under a month old. I was parking, and I heard a baby crying on the curb of the street. You were in a Moses basket covered in a beautiful Pink and Gold blankie. In the basket was a note stating, to please take care of our Princess Alexi. Your mom and I could not have children and we had been visiting orphanages one after another. You were like a miracle that was given to us. We knew not know why or where you came from. Only that your name was Alexi, and you were wearing a Gold Necklace with a princess wolf on it. I picked up your basket and seen you coo and promised to the Heavens above that we would love and protect you. We tried to find your biological parents, to no avail. After so much time, we could legally adopt you."

Looking at them, I asked if the blanket, basket, and necklace were still here. When she returned, the items were in her hands.

I asked her if it was okay if I kept them. She smiled sadly and nodded her head. I embraced them both and thanked them for the truth. I told them I loved them so much and would always be close to them.

As my stomach growls and my parents laugh, my mother brings out Cherry Cheesecake. I will miss this when I go to learn more about my kind. I haven't even left, and I'm already homesick.

How could I tell them I may have to leave?
