Chapter 5: Unusualness

“Care to explain what I saw earlier?” Micah nudged my arm with a cheeky expression.

“What? Isn’t it normal for classmates to talk to one another?” I answered back.

“Since when did you guys become this close?” Soleil asked me as she tended to her fingernails.

“I left home earlier than usual. I didn’t expect them to be in school this early, too,” I truthfully answered her. Which is not entirely a lie.

“Not really,” said Micah as her brows rose, and she pointed her finger at me. “I won’t ask anything further. But if one day. You become close to them. Don’t forget me.”

Soleil and I laughed at Micah for being overly dramatic. Not in a hundred years will I ever ditch Micah and Soleil.

Then a group of girls stood by our classroom doors and called for Soleil. Micah and I looked at each other than at Soleil as she walked towards the group of girls. Micah moved to sit beside me and whispered.

“Why is she talking to them?”

“I don’t know. But I remember seeing those group of girls last Friday,” I whispered back to Micah.

“She seems close to the queen bee,” Micah whispered and shivered after. “Look how she’s laughing along with them. Don’t tell me Soleil had been snitching behind our backs?”

“Don’t say that. You’ll never know if you don’t ask her,” I scolded Micah. We both stopped whispering when we saw Soleil walking back to us.

Micah and I watched Soleil humming and sat down as if nothing had happened. Soleil returned holding a pink pouch which is what I always see those group of girls holding.

“Soleil, why did you never tell us about you knowing them?” Micah asked Soleil, who only gave us a smile.

“Is it bad to talk with those girls?” Soleil asked, unsure, and rolled her eyes after.

Soleil doesn’t usually act like this. Not once did she roll her eyes on us. Just what is she keeping? I saw Micah clench her fist and was about to throw a fit.

But I pulled her arm down just when she was about to stand up. I looked at her trying to convey to her not to start an argument.

“There’s nothing wrong. But the three of us agreed not to get involved with them,” I stated, but Soleil sighed out loud.

“I’m sorry. They asked for help. So I did help them. Then I thought they’re actually good people. They’re not as bad as we think,” explained Soleil. “Look if I offered you two. Then I apologize.”

Soleil apologized, but it didn’t sound sincere at all. I can’t doubt her since she’s my friend. But the way she acts is just unusual.

Right on time, the teacher entered the classroom, and morning classes began.

Currently, there are two things stuck in my head. About that night. What do Joshua and Wayne have to do it? The second is about Soleil. She has been acting weird, and it’s not comfortable at all.

I placed my hand under my chin and sighed out loud while looking out of the window. I wish classes would end already.

The school ball ran, calling the students that it was lunch break. Finally, I can stand up. I stood up and stretched my arms and back. The next class is physical education. I know I brought my uniform with me.

“Sofia, do you want to join us for lunch?” Invited Wayne and stood behind was Joshua, who gave me a smile.

I turned my head to the side, finding Micah, who agreed. While Soleil left the classroom before I could even ask her.

“Sure, if you have no problems with me inviting my best friend,” I pointed to Micah, who waved her hands to them.

“No problem,” said Joshua.

The four of us walked to the canteen and went to line up. As I expected, there were lots of people looking in our direction. Even glares are being sent towards us.

I wouldn’t say I’m unlucky to be around them. But it does get uncomfortable. I bet those two are already used to it.

“Are you alright?” Joshua asked as he leaned towards me from behind. I slightly turned my head to the side, seeing his lips. I looked back straight, and I nodded my head.

“Just didn’t think you guys are this famous,” I made a fake reason.

“To be honest. I’m still not used to people looking at me.”

“How so? You’ve been famous for almost five years?” I said unsure, which made him chuckle. “Why are you laughing at me?” I asked him as I grabbed two other trays and gave them to Joshua.

“Thank you,” Joshua said as he passed the other tray to Wayne. “I didn’t expect you to be this clueless.”

“Wrong word. You mean slow,” I corrected him.

“You don’t seem to care at all.”

“Care about what? About how you two are famous and how the girls back in their seats are shooting their best glares at me?” I asked him and looked to the side where the chairs were.

“Usually, people would go crazy even if we talk to them at least once.”

“But in the end, we’re all equal. Just because you two are famous doesn’t mean I have to treat you differently. Please add more mashed potatoes, please,” I begged the canteen lady, who nodded her head and added another scoop. “Thank you!”

“What are you talking about?” Joined Wayne, who was done using his phone after picking up a call.

“Nothing much,” I answered him indifferently.

“I see keeping secrets already, huh?” Teased Wayne, who begged the canteen lady to give him more mashed potatoes. When he saw Joshua staring at him, he quickly apologized. “Don’t have to look at me like that. I’ll tell Blake you’re going to kill me.”

“If you tell Blake. I’ll tell him what you did last time,” threatened Joshua, and Wayne sighed and kept his mouth shut until we reached our table.
