Chapter 65: The Games They Play

Valerie kicked off her heels the moment she got home. Her feet ached from standing too long in heels that were more about style than comfort, but the ache in her pride stung worse.

She walked into the living room, only to pause.

There was Williams, seated alone on the couch, staring at the screen of his tablet. The soft glow lit up his face. His eyes were locked, distant—haunted almost.

She didn’t need to ask what he was looking at.

She already knew.

Valerie scoffed lightly, tossing her clutch on the side table. “You left without saying congratulations.”

Williams didn’t look up.

“At least pretend better,” she continued, walking over and grabbing the tablet from his hands. “Don’t make it so obvious that you’re shocked, full of regrets… and now scared of her.”

He blinked once, then leaned back against the couch, exhaling.

“I wasn’t scared,” he muttered.

“Oh no?” Valerie arched a brow. “You ran off the moment Rue said ‘I do.’ You didn’t even have the guts

Chapter: A Hard MorningI sat on the edge of Rue’s bed, still wrapped in the sheets, my hair a mess, and my heart even messier.Rue stood near the window, the morning sun glowing on his face. His expression was calm, but something about the way his hands stayed in his pockets told me he was nervous.“I want to talk to you,” he said, still not looking at me.I pulled the blanket closer. “Okay… shoot.”He turned slowly, and his voice was careful. “How would you feel… if we stopped the whole contract thing?”I blinked. “What do you mean stop?”He stepped closer. “I mean… what if we made it real?”I felt my heart skip. I opened my mouth but didn’t know what to say. So I laughed softly—awkwardly. “Real? Rue, I never said I wanted to marry you.”“I’m not saying marry me right now,” he said quickly. “I’m saying… we stop pretending. No contract. No rules. Just… see where it goes.”I shook my head gently. “That sounds like a relationship.”He smiled a little. “Yes. That’s the point.”I stood u

Chapter 104: Beyond Contracts . VICKY I quietly slipped into my room, careful not to wake Rue’s grandma. She’d barely been here for a few hours, but the energy in the house had already changed. She was sweet, but her presence meant we couldn’t keep pretending to sleep in separate rooms. She was old-school. She’d start asking questions—questions we weren’t ready to answer.I sat on the edge of my bed for a few minutes, thinking. The whole scene with Williams earlier was still playing in my head. His yelling. The way he blamed me. The miscarriage. Was it really my fault?I picked up my phone, my fingers hovering over the screen. I typed, “Hey… I just wanted to check on you. I’m sorry about everything.” But after staring at it for a few seconds, I deleted it.“What if they’re just twisting this to make me feel guilty?” I muttered to myself.I stood up, grabbed my phone and nightwear, then slowly walked to Rue’s room. When I opened the door, Rue looked up from his laptop.“I’ll take the

Chapter 103 _ A Great Loss _ or not “This…this is all because of Vicky,” he said bitterly, pacing out of the bathroom and into the living room. “It’s the stress. All this madness. The insults. The drama. You’ve been in and out of tears for weeks.” Valerie didn’t say anything. She stayed where she was, staring at the spot of blood on the tiled floor that hadn’t been cleaned yet. “She’s been attacking you from every angle,” Williams continued, voice rising as he walked in circles. “The press, the office, the house—always on edge! You didn’t deserve this. You didn’t deserve any of it.” She could hear the anger bubbling in his voice, the blame shifting heavily to Vicky as if it were the only thing he could hold on to. But Valerie didn’t flinch. She didn’t respond. She simply reached for a cloth and began to clean the floor around her. A quiet fury brewed in her chest, but it didn’t look like sadness anymore. She moved with a certain calmness—like someone who had crossed a line and

Chapter 102- Plan A _ Aborted . Sienna was already seated in the back seat of the car, arms crossed and jaw tight. She stared out the window, lips pressed together. Valerie took her time walking toward the car, her steps slow and uncertain. She clutched her bag close to her chest, the invitation envelope tucked inside. She knew she had messed up. And she knew Sienna wouldn’t take it lightly. As soon as Valerie slid into the car and shut the door, Sienna turned to her sharply.“What the hell was that?” she snapped.Valerie didn’t respond right away.Sienna’s voice rose. “I was still discussing the contract, and you had the nerve to bring up the invitation? Is that why we came here today? To hand out party cards?”Valerie opened her mouth, but Sienna didn’t let her speak.“The invitation was a separate task! Something you were supposed to do quietly. I asked you to come and assist me in a meeting, and you turned it into a social call?”Valerie looked down at her hands. “I’m sorry, I di

Chapter 101: The New Assistant VICKy Rue opened the door for me the moment we arrived at work, but his mouth hadn’t stopped moving since we left the house.“You know what it means now that Grandma’s staying over, right?” he said as I stepped out of the car. “We have to share a room.”I rolled my eyes and laughed. “Rue, we’ve shared a room before. It’s not a big deal.”He shut the door and leaned in closer, cornering me gently against the car. “You know what happened the last time we shared a room.”I smirked. “You must really love that sex because you always bringthat up. That was a long time ago “He gave me a crooked grin. “That’s because I enjoyed it. A lot.”I playfully smacked his shoulder. “You’re hopeless.”“No, I’m serious,” he said, lowering his voice. “You’ve gotten wild with your words lately, and I’m not sure I can control myself if we’re in the same room again.”I gasped and gave him a playful glare. “So now I’m the problem?”Before he could answer, a sharp voice inter

Chapter 100 — Not So Empty House Day 33/365 VICKY I was already dressed for work, waiting by the stairs with my phone in hand. Rue was taking too long upstairs, and we were definitely going to be late if he didn’t hurry. “Rue!” I called out. “Are you almost ready?” No response. Just as I turned to head up, I heard the front door open. I paused. We weren’t expecting anyone. I stepped closer to the living room, and then I saw her. An elderly woman in a lilac sweater walked in like she owned the place, dragging a shiny silver suitcase behind her. It took me a second, but then I recognized her. “Grandma?” Rue’s voice came from behind me. He sounded as surprised as I was. She smiled like this was totally normal. “Surprise!” Rue came down the stairs with his shirt half-buttoned, staring like he was seeing a ghost. “What… what are you doing here?” he asked slowly. “I’m staying here for two weeks,” she said with a sweet smile. I blinked. “Two weeks?” She nodded. “
