Chapter 26: The Edge of Ruin

The storm howled, tearing earth and sky into one.

Aria braced herself against the gale, her lungs burning, her body battered. Every muscle screamed, but she forced her legs beneath her, blade steady though her arm trembled. Ahead, Lucien advanced, shadows writhing at his back like wings forged from nightmare.

“Lucien!” she shouted, her voice raw, broken, yet unyielding. “If you’re going to kill me—then do it looking into my eyes!”

His stride faltered. For a moment, the shadows hesitated, their hunger grinding against his will. But then his mark flared brighter, and the abyss surged, dragging him forward.
