Chapter 2

Author: Worry Free
In the thundering sounds of fireworks, Kimmy threw away the forgiveness coupon in her hand and tossed the remaining two coupons into the trash can.

"I never want to forgive Uncle Alex again," she said this and ran back to her room.

When I went to her room, she had already curled up on her little bed and fallen asleep. Her cheeks were streaked with tears, and she clutched a photo of our family at the amusement park tightly in her arms.

Kimmy treasured this photo and would take it out to look at from time to time. It was the only picture we had of our family of three at an amusement park.

After Alexander bought the entire amusement park as a birthday gift for Pearl because she said she liked it, Kimmy never mentioned wanting to go to an amusement park again. I put the photo away for her, wiped the tears from her face, and let her rest.

The next morning, I contacted a divorce lawyer and asked her to help me draft a divorce agreement. However, after I finished the phone call, Kimmy peeked her head out from behind the door. I waved her over, and she immediately walked in and hugged my legs.

Fighting back the bitterness in my heart, I asked her, "Sweetheart, if Mom divorces Uncle Alex, would you rather stay with Uncle Alex or come with Mom?"

Kimmy's arms around me stiffened. She lowered her head, her voice carrying tears and reluctance.

"Do we really have to leave? Mom, Uncle Alex promised that once I turn seven, he'll let me call him Dad.

"Can we wait a little longer? Can we give him one more chance?"

Kimmy's words made my chest tighten, and I almost started crying.

During our years of marriage, Alexander had refused to make our relationship public to avoid Charlotte's misunderstanding. But even worse, our daughter wasn't allowed to call him Dad from the day she was born.

I remembered one time when Kimmy gathered the courage to call him Dad. He flew into a rage right there and made her kneel at the front door, forcing her to shout "Uncle Alex" three thousand times until her voice was nearly gone.

Since then, whether at home or outside, Kimmy never dared call him Dad again, only Uncle Alex.

After saying this, she picked up the forgiveness coupons she had thrown in the trash yesterday and said, "Mom, look, there's still one coupon left. Let's give him one more chance."

Kimmy's eyes, red and swollen from crying, were full of determination. I ruffled her hair and sighed, agreeing to her request.

Alexander hadn't come home since that day.

Kimmy brought me an invitation, her eyes hopeful as she said, "Mom, the teacher said both parents need to attend the parent-teacher conference at school. Can you and Uncle Alex come together? I promised my classmates they could meet my dad."

I held the invitation with some doubt. Looking at the expectation in Kimmy's eyes, I couldn't bear to disappoint her.

But I wasn't sure if Alexander would actually go. After all, in our five years of marriage, he had never attended any of Kimmy's parent-teacher conferences.

Before promising Kimmy, I called Alexander to confirm. However, a young voice answered the phone.

"Hello, are you looking for Daddy Alexander? He's taking a shower and will be out soon."

My nails dug into my palm to keep from lashing out. I coldly hung up the phone.

Just as I was about to tell Kimmy that Alexander couldn't make it, he called back. "Isabella, Pearl's young and can't tell the difference between Uncle Alex and Daddy, so she called me the wrong thing.

"Just don't misunderstand. Kimmy's my only precious daughter."

He sounded rather pathetic trying to explain himself in such a panic, but I no longer wanted to pursue these matters.

When the three of us slowly walked back to the residential complex, Alexander still hadn't left. This time, I treated him like air and didn't shoot him a single glance. I had already said everything I needed to say. However, Kimmy beside me seemed stunned for a moment when she saw him. Mark noticed Kimmy's unusual reaction and asked her with concern, "What's wrong, sweetheart?"Kimmy shook her head and said, "It's nothing."As we passed Alexander, he couldn't help but call out to Kimmy, "Kimmy, it's Dad."But Kimmy calmly brushed away his hand and said, "Uncle Alex."Seeing that Kimmy seemed to know Alexander, Mark breathed a sigh of relief. At least he wasn't a human trafficker, so there was no danger. However, he quickly realized this must be Kimmy's irresponsible scumbag father. He was about to rush forward and beat him up when Kimmy grabbed the corner of his shirt."Dad, he's just Uncle Alex. Don't fight. If you get hurt, Mom and I will be heartbroken."Mark was stunned, th

I forcefully pulled Alexander up and pointed to the overpass not far away, saying, "Jump from there, and I'll forgive you."That overpass wasn't very high for most people, but Alexander had severe acrophobia. Ever since his father jumped from the 18th floor and died in front of him, he had developed a severe fear of any high places. What normal people could jump from, he absolutely couldn't. I wanted Alexander to back down when faced with this challenge. However, I ultimately underestimated how desperate Alexander had become. He ran toward the overpass without hesitation.Although his face was as pale as a sheet, his eyes showed reckless determination. He closed his eyes and jumped from there. He fell into the water below the overpass and didn't climb ashore for a long time.Standing in front of me, soaking wet, he gave me a pleasing smile. "Isabella, you said if I jumped from there, you'd forgive me! I did it, so will you forgive me now?"I closed my eyes, feeling somewhat irrit

Peaceful and warm days passed one by one, and the wounds in Kimmy's and my hearts gradually began to heal. We both slowly forgot about our life back home and that person from our past. Neither Kimmy nor I expected to encounter Alexander again. It was an ordinary afternoon. Kimmy and Mark had gone to the park to sketch and hadn't returned for a long time. I went to look for them, but after going downstairs, I saw Alexander looking completely disheveled. As someone who was usually very concerned about his image, he now had a pale face and unkempt beard, looking like a homeless vagrant. For a moment, I didn't even recognize him. However, even after recognizing him, I had no intention of talking to him. I turned around and walked past him down the stairs.Behind me, he said with reddened eyes and a hoarse voice, "Isabella, don't go..."As he spoke, he hugged me tightly from behind. Warm tears soaked through my clothes and dampened my shoulder. He was crying. In our five years of marr

Alexander's eyes stung with tears. He raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face, leaving a clear handprint. He ran as fast as he could. What should have been a 15-minute journey took him only five minutes to reach his front door. However, what Alexander didn't expect was that the lights in the house would actually be on.Thinking that Isabella and Kimberly might have come back, his eyes filled with excitement as he pushed open the door. He called out their names loudly, telling them about his reflection and regret while swearing that he would treat the mother and daughter well from now on.But he searched from downstairs to upstairs, then from upstairs back to downstairs. Yet there was still no sign of the mother and daughter. Only then did Alexander realize that even their belongings had disappeared. In such a large house, he couldn't find a single trace that the mother and daughter had ever lived there. This discovery filled Alexander with despair for a moment. He

Alexander suddenly felt anxious. He didn't want to wait that long anymore.Right now, he wanted the whole world to know that Isabella was his wife and Kimberly was his daughter. That way, she could openly call him Dad from now on, instead of Uncle Alex.Kimberly would definitely be happy about that. She might even be so happy that she'd forgive him for what happened that day without needing a forgiveness coupon.Alexander excitedly called the person in charge of the company website and asked him to announce on the official site that he was already married with a daughter. However, the person on the other end said, "Mrs. Morrison is also a company employee after all. You should probably get her consent first."Alexander thought he had a point and took out his phone to dial the number that had somehow become ingrained in his memory. But the other end was still unreachable.Alexander's expression darkened. During the first year of their marriage, he had gotten sick and called Isabel

Alexander's tightly gripped phone crashed to the floor. He looked up, his usually calm and wise eyes filled with confusion. "What did you say?"Lucas carefully repeated the terrible news. Alexander stared at him for a long time, then suddenly pulled his lips into a sarcastic smile. His voice was certain as he asked, "Lucas, how much money did Isabella and Kimmy give you to help them put on this show?"Lucas was stunned by Alexander's question and didn't react for a moment. "What?"Alexander held up the divorce papers and the empty box beside them with a cold laugh. "Divorce papers, used-up forgiveness coupons, and now even a plane crash storyline."I mean, how could a hundred forgiveness coupons be used up so easily? And you think I've never seen a real plane crash victim notification? You just grabbed some random paper to fool me?"Does Isabella think everyone else is as stupid as she is? Just because she's jealous, she's making such a big scene and even took Kimmy away from hom
