Chapter 2

Author: Moore
In that instant, everyone in the banquet hall fell silent. Mother grasped my hand and reprimanded me, saying, "You should have said something if you couldn't drink because of your injuries. You're not being forced to drink it. You're overthinking things, Sylara!"

Father looked momentarily embarrassed, though he immediately seconded Mom's words and chided me. "You should have ordered your maid to inform us about your injury. You're the firstborn princess of Auremount, so brooding over everything in silence is no way to behave."

I offered no defense, nor did I tell them that every maid I had sent out had never even been granted a chance to report back. I simply lowered my head and said softly, "It was my fault for not thinking it through and making Father and Mother worry."

They looked at me in renewed astonishment the moment I offered my apology.

Father, with a look of approval in his eyes, said, "You finally possess the grace that the firstborn princess of Aureveil Citadel should have, Sylara."

Mother's grip on my hand suddenly tightened, her face showing signs of alarm and unease.

Caelum stepped in front of me before Mother could speak. He lowered his head, his gentle tone containing a hint of apology while saying, "I can explain about what happened that day, Sylara. It was Elara's first time participating in the hunting ritual, and she was crying so hard that I just wanted to help her.

"You're already so accomplished, and everyone in Auremount knows you're the best Sacred Huntress. Elara is different, though. She's been weak since childhood and hasn't had much recognition. I only wanted to give her a single moment of happiness, Sylara."

He spoke with such ease, as though stripping me of the honors I had earned over the years was a matter of no consequence.

I felt my heart, which had finally grown still, race violently once more at his words. He had tampered with my mount, causing the fall that injured me, and his sole purpose was to force me out of the competition.

I could never forget the terror of being violently trampled by my own mount. I had come so close—so terribly close—to losing the use of my leg forever.

In the past, when Father and Mother showed favoritism toward Elara, Caelum had remained at my side. He had defended me, stating that even if the entire world were biased, he would always stand on my side.

Elara was lively and bright, though. She would tug at his sleeve playfully and look up at him with tearful eyes, calling his name in a sweet manner. I, on the other hand, remained perpetually quiet and gloomy. In the end, even Caelum had begun to feel that Elara was the one who deserved to be favored.

I smiled faintly and said, "It's fine. If Elara likes it, then let her have it.

I had been abandoned so many times, so I couldn't possibly hold expectations of their love anymore—whether it was the Sacred Huntress title, my family's love, or even Caelum.

I suddenly felt the injuries on my body begin to ache faintly, but the sensation rapidly escalated into a sharp, tearing pain. I gasped for air as a heavy pressure blocked my chest, and a numbness spread to my fingertips. I looked down at the empty wine glass, and my face suddenly turned pale.

Emberveil Herb was occasionally mixed into the wine for the Auremount festival, as it kept the warriors energized during the rites. However, I had been allergic to Emberveil Herb since I was a child; if consumed by accident while injured, it would cause a high fever and severe hemorrhaging.

Those in Aureveil Citadel used to know this, but once Elara developed a fondness for wine prepared with Emberveil Herb, no one in the palace spoke of my allergy again.

I had to find a healer immediately.

I had barely turned when Elara spoke up, asking softly, "Why are you in such a rush to depart if you're not upset with me, Sylara?"

She lowered her head, sounding aggrieved while saying, "It is my first time becoming a Sacred Huntress, so I just wanted our family here with me. If you leave, others will surely believe that I have taken your honor, Sylara…"

Elena's tears had stirred compassion in everyone present.

Darren's expression grew stern as he asked coldly, "Have you not had enough, Sylara? You keep insisting on leaving, even though everyone is here. How is Elara supposed to feel about this?"

I endured the discomfort and explained softly to them, "I have to go find a healer since there's something in the wine—"

Darren grabbed my wrist before I could finish my sentence and yanked it violently, causing my wound to instantly rip open.

I was in so much pain that my vision went black. I subconsciously wrenched my hand away from his grip.

Darren's expression immediately hardened. "You're really good at acting, Sylara. I thought you had changed for the better, but it turns out you were just lying to us!"

I had just stepped out of the room when Elara lunged forward and gripped me fiercely. She looked completely furious, her eyes burning with resentment and madness. "Why did you have to come back after leaving? You came back just to ruin everything!"I gently shook off her grip and replied calmly, "I only returned to treat Mother.""You're lying!" Elara bellowed hysterically. "You came back for the sole purpose of robbing me of everything I have! Father and Mother had finally stopped thinking about you, and Caelum had almost forgotten you! You stole everyone's attention the moment you returned!" Upon seeing this, one of the attendants from Lunara Sanctum stepped forward and slapped Elara hard across the face, yelling, "How dare you speak insolently to the Chief Sanctress!"Elara remained defiant despite being slapped, maintaining a constant stream of curses and shouting.Father's expression turned cold and stern; all his previous indulgence toward her entirely vanished. He straight

I donned the silver mask that symbolized divine authority and performed the divine healing arts in Mother's bedchamber as the sun set. It was conducted with great solemnity, and everyone remained entirely reverent, not daring to be even a fraction careless.I went back to my chambers at the temporary residence once the ritual was over and instructed someone to discreetly call Wren over.Wren was visibly anxious when she arrived, constantly keeping her head down as she didn't dare to meet my gaze.I gently called out to her, murmuring, "It's me, Wren."Wren looked up and finally saw my face clearly. She rushed forward and threw her arms around me, her eyes brimming with tears, while her voice choked with emotion. "It's really you! You're finally back, Princess Sylara!"Yet, before we even had the chance to speak further, someone forcefully pushed the door open. That person was none other than Caelum. He looked haggard, his eyes heavily bloodshot and full of desolation. He was abso

Upon learning of the appointment, I tried to decline several times, feeling completely anxious. "I lack sufficient experience and have never managed a large-scale ceremony. I am not fit for this major responsibility, High Priest Aldous."High Priest Aldous stepped forward and said with absolute certainty, "You must have faith in yourself. You share a natural connection with the divine will, your spirit is pure, and your past hardships have shaped your exceptional composure. Your talent is obvious to everyone here."He looked at me and continued, "Your past trials are not chains, but the very source of your strength. You should act with confidence, as you are fully worthy of being Chief Sanctress."Upon seeing the steady trust in High Priest Aldous's gaze, I finally understood that I had long since broken free from the mire of Auremount, gaining my own glory and a new life. I ceased my hesitations and officially took up my duties, conducting all kinds of rituals as the Chief Sanctres

I boarded the sacred flagship of the Athenveil Temple, leaving behind all the mistreatment and neglect I had endured in the past in Auremount.I stood at the front of the ship, silently watching Silvergate Divine Harbor fade away. I felt no reluctance to leave, only pure liberation. I withdrew all my affection for the Aurenmount royal family from that day forward. They had never loved or valued me, so I would no longer degrade myself to win their favor. If no one else loved me, then for the rest of my days, loving myself would be enough.I had only just recovered from my allergic reaction, and my injuries were still aching faintly. I was already exhausted from the long journey, so before long, my vision went black; I could no longer hold myself up and fainted straight onto the deck.I regained consciousness and found myself lying on clean, soft bedding. I noticed that there were a few composed elders standing by my side, led by the visiting priest of Lunara Sanctum. He noticed I

Sylara's POVI was locked in the Reflection Chamber, and my allergic reaction grew increasingly severe. I was just on the verge of collapsing when something suddenly stirred on the floor in the corner of the chamber, and a few stone slabs were slowly pried open from underneath, exposing a dark, pitch-black hole. Wren crawled out from the opening. She was covered in dust as she held a small porcelain vial tightly in her hand. She rushed to my side, supported my weak body, and frantically twisted open the cap of the vial. She was crying while her voice was trembling, yelling, "You have to stay awake, Princess Sylara! I managed to steal this anti-allergy tonic from the healer, so hurry up and drink it!"I couldn't even utter a single word because of how swollen my throat was, so I could only rely on her help to laboriously swallow a few mouthfuls of the tonic. It tasted extremely pungent and bitter, but it genuinely eased the suffocating pressure in my chest, and the sensation of

Aldric and Vaelis hurriedly stepped forward, their eyes widening in surprise when they saw the corpse. "Is this actually a maid?"Vaelis covered her mouth as tears streamed uncontrollably down her face. "Where is Sylara, then?"Darren moved in to look, his expression turning grim. "That door was locked from the outside. How could a maid have gotten in? How did Sylara get out?"It was then that an attendant standing close by bowed and murmured timidly, "There is an abandoned secret passage beneath the Reflection Chamber, King Aldric. Princess Sylara may have escaped through it."Aldric's worry disappeared in an instant. He tried to speak, but nothing came out.Elara stood behind the crowd, a trace of disappointment flashing across her face. She then spoke in a voice that carried a hint of sarcasm. "You all can stop crying now. Sylara is just hiding on purpose to watch us run around in a panic. She knew we would worry, yet she still staged this fire and risked someone else's life.
