Chapter 3

Author: Zac Neal
"Roy, take me upstairs now. I'm the designer Mr. Lopez—"

Before I could finish, Roy lost his patience and shoved me to the ground. "Do you even understand how important today's designer is? Move! Don't just stand there!"

I fought to keep my temper in check. "Roy, I don't have time for this."

With that, I grabbed my bag and started walking toward the elevator.

Just then, Ava let out a startled gasp, pointing at my outfit with trembling hands. "Roy, her clothes look like pieces from the latest runway collection."

Roy's softened expression quickly turned cold. He studied my outfit closely and sneered. "Her outfit's from this year's collection.

"At this point, the factories probably haven't even finished producing it. Where did you get it?"

Before I could answer, Roy continued, "I know you're trying to get my attention by wearing new pieces, but do you realize how disastrous it is for a designer to wear knockoffs?"

I frowned and shook off Roy's hand from my sleeve. I knew exactly how damaging a knockoff could be for a designer, but this wasn't a knockoff.

Every piece I was wearing had been designed and made by me. Aside from being loaned out for a single runway show, there was no other piece like it in the world.

"I designed and made this outfit myself," I said firmly.

Ava immediately let out a mocking laugh. "Did you really design this, Sylvia? Don't tell me you're just Sarah under a different name."

I was about to nod when Roy slapped me across the face. "Can you stop acting insane? Look around you. Sarah is an internationally renowned designer.

"Countless major brands are fighting to work with her, but you? You don't even deserve to speak her name!"

Everyone around me looked at me with contempt.

I knew exactly what they meant. Five years ago, I had been a dull, exhausted housewife, following Roy around and handling chores. There was no way anyone would have linked me to that renowned designer.

I was Sarah, yet I refused to explain myself to them. I covered my face and glared at Roy.

Perhaps because I had never stood my ground like this before, my anger seemed to catch Roy off guard. He frowned, pulled a card from his wallet, and handed it to me.

"There's some money on this card. Use it to buy some clothes. After all, you've been with me for so many years. If you really want to meet Sarah, I'll help arrange it, but don't wear knockoffs."

I met everyone's gaze and handed the card back. "No need. We have nothing to do with each other anymore."

No matter how sour Roy's expression grew, I walked past him and headed upstairs.

I always kept my word. Since I had promised to meet the partner, I couldn't leave in such a messy way. Before I had even taken two steps, Roy's cold voice cut through the air.

"Nothing to do with me? Sylvia, you really are something."

Perhaps humiliated in front of everyone, Roy gritted his teeth in anger.

"Who else could it be? That man is my boyfriend," Ava said matter-of-factly.Roy stared at her in disbelief. He could have forgiven a little deception, but she blurted straight out, "Roy, we're all adults. "What's wrong with looking out for myself? Look at you now. How could you possibly support me?"Roy grabbed her hand and asked coldly, "You're leaving just because I hit a little trouble? Ava, how did I never realize you were such a vain woman?"Ava's temper flared as she snapped back. "You? Do you think there's a way out after offending Sylvia? What a joke. "If I had known you were this useless, I never would have been with you. You have no money or status, and you are annoying. My darling is here to pick me up."Roy could only watch helplessly as Ava climbed into the Ferrari of a greasy-looking man. Just as Ava had said, he had no money and no status. He was nothing but a failure.Three days later, Wilson fired Roy. To cover the mortgage, he pawned his car. When that still

I had my assistant spread the news about everything that happened at Lopez Group today and posted a few sad photos on my feed. Playing the victim was something Ava always did, and I had to admit, it worked like a charm.I got my friends in the industry to speak up for me. Companies I had worked with before and those hoping to collaborate started subtly undermining Roy's company.Wilson's business deals went from bad to worse. Numerous companies outright refused to work with him.At a dinner one night, one of Wilson's friends dropped a hint. "Have you offended someone recently?"Wilson shook his head, puzzled."The renowned designer your company worked with," his friend said.Wilson immediately told his father, who was also his boss."Sarah still wants to work with us. I thought this was over," he said. His father, Drake Lopez, looked at Wilson with a mix of frustration and disbelief."Over? Take a look at the company's market value. You still think it's over? If we can't kee

Roy turned pale with fear and froze on the spot.Wilson snapped, "What are you standing there for? Go prepare the materials for the meeting."Roy quickly replied, "Yes, Mr. Lopez."This project revolved entirely around me.Every fabric selection and color palette used in the collaboration came from my proprietary formulas. Even the best knockoffs on the market could only replicate about half of the effect, and they were still outrageously expensive. Some things could never be understood simply by taking them apart and copying the structure. In every aspect of this project, I held absolute authority. The meeting began shortly after. As the project lead, Roy naturally took the floor to explain the plan.Putting everything else aside, Roy was competent. He was better than average, but only by a small margin.Halfway through the presentation, I cut him off. "If you're aiming for a luxury brand, your customers can't be just anyone. You're not seriously expecting stay-at-home house

I motioned for Roy to project the content from my phone onto the screen. When he saw the familiar scene frozen there, his face immediately darkened.I said, "What's the matter? You had the guts to do it, but not the courage to take responsibility?"Roy forced himself to walk toward the projector, but in his panic, my phone slipped from his hand and fell into the nearby fish tank. His obvious attempt to cover things up only made the onlookers, who had no idea what was going on, even more curious about our story.Roy looked at me with a guilty expression. "I'm sorry, Syl…"Seeing how tense and guilty he looked, I had to fight hard to keep from laughing. I pulled out another phone and waved it casually, making sure he noticed."Mr. Henderson, that was careless of you. Luckily for me, I have plenty of backups."I turned to Wilson. "Mr. Lopez, your people really can't seem to get things done properly."Wilson immediately understood. He stepped forward at once and had the contents of

Wilson knew exactly how to put people down while keeping me in the spotlight. Still, that didn't make me any less annoyed.I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth and smiled brightly. "Mr. Lopez, did you arrange for someone to meet me without showing them my photo? I thought I mentioned I'd be wearing the new collection today."Though my tone was light, it made everyone on the other side break out in cold sweat.Wilson had no idea that his team didn't recognize me—Sarah, the famous designer whose name was known throughout the industry. It wasn't really Roy and her crew's fault. This was a small company I normally wouldn't even bother working with. I had come this time purely as a surprise drop-in. Most people would never get to see me in person. Normally, people focused on my work and paid little attention to me. Besides, I always kept a low profile.Roy and his team froze in place. They couldn't believe that the woman they had always dismissed as just a housewife who knew

Hearing my name, I instinctively looked in Wilson's direction. At first, Wilson could hardly believe it. The moment our eyes met, he hurriedly took off his coat and ran toward me.I slipped into his suit jacket, which barely covered me like a tiny dress.Wilson helped me to my feet and looked at me with concern. "Sarah, what happened to you?"This collaboration was supposed to be a favor for my mentor, Alan Royce. Otherwise, I would never have agreed to work with a company like Lopez Group.I gathered the edges of the jacket and asked coldly, "Mr. Lopez, is this how you treat guests? I'm afraid our cooperation from here on out might not be very pleasant."By the time Wilson's team arrived, all they saw was me, half-naked on the floor. They had no idea what had happened. I could feel Wilson's body tense from panic.Roy stepped forward, wearing a sycophantic smile. "Mr. Lopez, this is my ex, Sylvia. She caused some trouble. We were worried Sarah might see her, and it'd hurt our
