Chapter 4

The trophy in Luther's hand fell to the ground and broke into two. His expression darkened considerably.

He asked his butler, Darren Bolt, in a cold voice, "When did she leave? Why didn't you stop her?"

Under his suffocating Alpha presence, Darren shook like a leaf but couldn't utter a single word.

Just then, Ivana stepped forward and held his arm. She comforted him, "Luther, Yara must be mad at me for taking her place on sports day. That's why she ran away from home. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have taken her place just because the twins like me. Hurry and find her. I… I'll leave, okay?"

Luther's irritation gradually cooled off. His expression was still grim, but he no longer pressed Darren for an answer.

He said frostily, "It's not your fault. Yara is just being petty. She has no one besides me. Where else can she go by herself? Once she calms down, she'll definitely come back."

But still, Luther was angry at how wilfully I had acted.

After thinking for a moment, he instructed Darren coldly, "When Yara comes back, don't let her in. Leave her outside for 12 hours before letting her in. I really have to teach her a lesson this time."

Ivana's lips curved upward ever so slightly.

Still, she spoke up for me in a seemingly understanding tone. "I guess Yara loves the pups too much and doesn't want me to get close to them."

Luther frowned and replied with displeasure, "You're their birth mother. How could she not let you get close to them? Don't overthink it. Go rest early."

No longer in the mood for conversation, Luther sent the twins and Ivana away before going to our bedroom.

He soon discovered that our bedroom had been thoroughly cleared out. All my belongings were gone. The walls that had once been covered with the twins' photos were now bare. To his surprise, not even a single photo remained.

His heart sank, and the unease in him grew stronger. He tried again to call out to me through our mind-link, but there was still no response from me.

After a long moment, he finally pulled out his phone and called his Beta, James Pratt.

"Find out where Yara is as fast as possible!" he barked into his phone.

Right after he ended the call, someone pushed the bedroom door open. Ivana walked in wearing a sheer, seductive nightgown. She hugged Luther from behind. The strap of her dress slid down, making the atmosphere intimate and suggestive.

Feeling uneasy, Luther turned his head away and draped his coat over her shoulders. "Didn't I tell you to go get some rest? Why aren't you in bed?"

Ivana's ears turned red as she lowered her head shyly. "Luther, I've been thinking… I don't want to be with you and the pups as a mistress. I want to stand by your side rightfully."

Luther froze. In the instant her lips were about to touch his, he suddenly stepped back to put some distance between them.

"Iva, I think you've misunderstood. I treat you well simply because you're the pups' biological mother. The one I truly love has always been Yara!"

Ivana's face fell as she stared at Luther with incredulity written all over her face. She exclaimed, "That's impossible. You obviously love me! Otherwise, why would you have pups with me?"

After she became pregnant, he hid it from Yara and took meticulous care of her. In fact, he had abandoned Yara for her time and again. From how tender he was toward her, Ivana found it hard to believe that he had no feelings for her.

Luther fell absolutely silent. He had a vacant look in his eyes, like his soul had left his body.

Eight years ago, someone had given him a pheromone boosting drug. In a haze, he ended up in bed with Ivana. When he learned that she was pregnant, his first thought was to have the pups aborted and to pay her to leave.

However, when he looked at Ivana's eyes that kind of resembled mine and heard her cry miserably that her weak body couldn't handle an abortion, his heart softened. He ultimately relented and allowed her to give birth to the twins.

Without him realizing it, step by step, Ivana invaded his life with her pups until she drove me away.

Luther closed his eyes, his mind a tangled mess. Perhaps he had made the wrong decision from the very beginning.
