Chapter 18

As the ruckus grew, so did the crowd that stood by the door to the private room. They looked on, realizing almost immediately that the duo fighting were no ordinary men as they pulled the two away from each other.

They were both good fighters, yet they looked rather pitiful as blood covered their faces.

Matthew Henderson’s assistant rushed over to help him up. “Are you okay, President Henderson? Do you need to go to the hospital?”

Turning his head back, Matthew spat and pointed his finger at Michael Larson’s face. “I’m fine. How dare you touch my woman, Larson! Just you wait. I’ll get back to you or my name won’t be Matthew Henderson!”

Michael did not bother to explain. “I’ll do just that.”

With this, Matthew dragged Christina Williams out of the private room. Blood formed around his forehead and trickled down his chin. It was quite an intimidating look.

Christina could see that Matthew was rather intoxicated from the fight earlier on. It was only natural if he lost to Michael in this state.

At this moment, the repugnance that she had stored against Matthew had suddenly disappeared into thin air.

She thought about how caring he was when he offered her his jacket, and how hurled himself against Michael when he saw what was going on. Instantly, her false illusion of him shattered and he became quite the man in her eyes.

Back at the private room, blood trickled from the corner of Michael’s lips. Along with the blow to his eyes just now, he looked like a terrible mess.

By now, Michael’s assistant had found the first aid kit and was applying medication on his wound. “Hang in there, President Larson. The doctor’s on his way.”

“I’m fine. This is nothing.” Michael clenched his teeth hard. The hurt he was feeling now was nothing compared to the bruises on his face.

His mind wavered on and he thought about how Christina helped Matthew up and brought him out of the room. As he thought about the way she carried him in her arms, Michael’s fist landed on the table as the glass shattered into pieces.

Michael’s assistant hurriedly tried to offer an explanation. “Mr. Henderson thought that you were the one who did that to the Madam, that’s why he hit you earlier on.”

“Shut up! She’s no longer a Madam anymore. Don’t you know we had a divorce three years ago? If you ever call her Madam again, I’ll kick you out of my sight!” Michael roared in anger.

“I’m sorry, President Larson. It’s all my fault.”

Lowering his head as an apology, the assistant muttered, “Master Carter really is a b*stard. Mada… Miss William’s face even swelled up that much...”

“How dare he mess around in my territory! I won’t let him off the hook this time!” yelled Michael. Hatred and anger flashed underneath his eyes as he thought about the bloodstain at the corner of Christina’s lips.

Although he hated Matthew, something that the man said had impressed him.

“Even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t lay a single finger on her, yet you hit her!”

Holding his fist tight, Michael’s face contorted, and hate filled his eyes. “Find someone to break his arm and his leg in a few days’ time.”

Nodding his head in response, the assistant thought to himself, ‘It seemed that Philip Carter had finally crossed the line this time.’

Although President Larson did not like him addressing Christina as Madam Larson, he knew that the President still cared about her a lot. That would explain why he was so determined to seek revenge on Philip Carter.

As Philip’s father, Director Carter, was the head of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, no one intervened in his bad deeds in fear of the Director. Philip took advantage of this and did many unspeakable things. It was not the first time Philip did something like this, yet it was the first time President Larson had made such a fuss over it.

The assistant silently mourned for Philip. Perhaps if he had known he would lose an arm and a leg because of what he did to Christina today, he would have never thought about doing something like this in the first place.

On the other hand, Matthew finally learned about the truth of what had happened in Dynasty Nightclub. It dawned on him that he had misunderstood Michael. He was not the perpetrator that had hit Christina, nor the one who wanted to rape her.

The driver turned his head and said, “You might have been too impulsive today, Mr. Henderson. We all know that Master Larson is the local tyrant of this city, yet we’ve already managed to p*ss him off even though we’ve only been here for a few days. I got a feeling that he won’t let us go that easily anytime soon.”

Matthew was unbothered about what his driver had said. “What’s done is done. That Larson fella isn’t a good man anyway. If I see him again the next time, I’ll do just the same!”

The assistant knew Matthew’s character very well. He was stubborn, and the more you tried to persuade him the more he would do the opposite. With that in mind, he decided to drop the topic.

It was already late and they were sending Christina back home. Covering the bruise on his face with his palm, he ordered the driver, “Find some men later. Wherever that b*stard Philip is heading, stop him on the road and pour blood all over him.”

“Mr Henderson, Philip is after all the only son of Director Carter. It doesn’t seem appropriate to do that especially now that we’re trying to get on the Director’s good side. Moreover, we just had dinner with the Director earlier on. Won’t he be pissed if he finds out about this?”

Matthew let out a cold laugh. “Are you afraid that he would give us a hard time? Even if I were to leave Philip alone, he won’t do us this favor either way. Didn’t you notice how cunning he was when he talked to us just now? He acted as if he would hand over the project yet he refused to guarantee that in reality. We’re nothing to him.”

The driver was still unconvinced about it. “Even if he refused to help us out, we shouldn't make him our enemy. After all, we’ll be relying on him in the future to start a business here.”

“Of course I’ve thought about this.” Rebutting the driver, Matthew left him speechless.

Outsiders may not understand the Young Master’s character, but as a loyal employee, he knew exactly what kind of person he was.

On first impression, people usually think of the boisterous man as a playboy who was incapable of handling the family business. What they did not know was that this man was a rather competent person in disguise.

Although Matthew had the worst reputation among the Hendersons, he was also the one whom the old president thought highly of. Of course, not many knew about this.

“Prepare a huge gift for Thomas Carter. I want him to know that if he doesn’t put his son on a leash anytime soon, he can forget about his position as Director of the Ministry of the Housing and Urban Development.”

The driver glanced at Matthew from the rearview mirror as a chill ran down his spine. Something bad was going to befall the Carters tonight.

When Christina got home at night, Francis Williams immediately noticed the slap mark on her cheek and asked, “What happened Christina? Did someone hit you?”

“No, nothing like that. I fell down in the alley just now because it was too dark to see.”

Francis felt sorry for his niece. “It’s all my fault. You probably would have a better life if I had been more successful in my career.”

Upon hearing this, Christina became sad too. “I was the one who dragged you down, Uncle Francis. No one would’ve treated you that way if not for me.”

Uncle Francis had been with her through her darkest days, and she felt extremely grateful for that. She did not know if she could ever make it so far in life if not for him.

“Don’t worry, Uncle Francis. I’ll earn a lot of money in the future and our lives would be better.”

Francis nodded his head. “Yeah, things will get better in time.”

The next day, Christina went to work with a bruise on her face. Walking into the office, she noticed that Matthew’s face had been badly swollen from yesterday’s incident too.

The two shared a look as they let out subdued chuckles. With that, the tense atmosphere between them became much more relaxed than it had been.

For lunch, Matthew took Christina to a western restaurant close to the office and ordered a lot of spicy food.

Christina felt weirded out by this. Matthew used to be a picky eater that refused to eat anything that had to do with chilli, yet somehow he ordered spicy food today. What was up with him today?

They did not sit for long before they found themselves being surrounded by a small mob. “I’ve finally got you!”

Philip had brought four lackeys along with him as he glared ferociously at the pair. It seemed that he was here to pay back on what had happened yesterday.

Although Philip did not recognize Matthew, Matthew knew who the man before him was in a single glance. “Haven’t you learned your lesson yet, Philip?”

Reminded of the incident last night, Philip’s temper flared. “Get it moving! I want the man crippled and the woman kidnapped!”
