Chapter 4

Author: Ginger King
After leaving Janet's place, I drove straight to the popular escape room from the photo.

As it happened, one of my closest college friends, Daniel Sterling, was a partner in the business. With his help, pulling up the surveillance footage from that day six months ago was a breeze.

On the monitor, Cedric had one arm around the waist of a flashily dressed young woman. The two of them were clearly intimate. After they finished the game, they kissed without a care in the world in front of the machine that printed custom souvenir cards.

The woman handed him a card printed with cartoon portraits of the two of them.

Watching their sickening faces on the screen, I smiled, thinking, "Cedric Zimmer, since you have no shame, I'll play this game with you until the very end."

I had Daniel save an HD copy of the video onto my flash drive.

The next day, I went to work as usual. The moment I stepped into the lobby, I heard a commotion. A crowd had gathered near the entrance.

Standing right at the center of it all were my father-in-law, John Zimmer, and Cedric.

John slammed his fist on the reception desk and shouted at the top of his lungs, "This is outrageous! Everyone, come take a look! This wicked woman got rich and now she wants to dump her husband who stood by her when she had nothing!"

He wiped away fake tears and gestured wildly at Cedric. "My son married her even though her family was poor. He treated her like a queen and catered to her every need!"

"And what happened?" he roared. "The moment her father showed up, he pretended to be sick and forced his daughter to turn against her own husband! Now she wants a divorce and plans to leave my son with nothing. She's trying to destroy him! Everyone, be the judge of this!"

Cedric stood nearby, holding up his phone and livestreaming everything.

He didn't say a word. He simply stood there with a stony expression, acting as though he held the moral high ground.

My colleagues were pointing and whispering, while several passersby stopped to film with their phones. The security guards tried to step in, but John's relatives shoved them back.

The lobby descended into total chaos.

The viewer count on the livestream exploded, and the comments section was flooded with vile, hateful comments attacking me.

"Get this terrible woman out of the company! Boycott the company's products!"

"A scumbag like her can become a senior executive? There's no way her hands are clean. Someone needs to audit her right now!"

"She looks decent enough, but she's so scheming. Poor guy."

Just then, Ethan stepped out of the elevator with several senior executives, all of them wearing grim expressions.

When he saw the chaos unfolding, he was so furious that his hands trembled. He pointed at me and roared, "Susan! Is this what you call fixing the problem? You're officially fired! Get the hell out of my company!"

The moment Cedric and John heard those words, they fell silent. They exchanged a quick glance, a flicker of panic crossing their eyes.

The whole scene they had caused today was nothing more than an attempt to use public pressure to force me to give in once again.

After all, the old me had always been obedient and easy to squeeze money out of. If I really lost my job as a senior executive and my income dried up, how were they supposed to milk me for cash ever again?

Cedric stammered, trying to say something to salvage the situation, but I broke the silence first.

"Mr. Caldwell, please give me another five minutes. If I can't resolve this by then, I'll leave immediately. I won't drag the company down with me."

"What else could you possibly have to say? The evidence is all over the internet!" Ethan barked impatiently.

I turned to Leon, who had always gotten along well with me. "Leon, plug in my flash drive and project it onto the LED screen in the lobby."

Leon quickly worked at the computer and did as I said. The screen, which had been playing the company's promotional video, flickered. Everyone's attention was drawn to it.

Cedric seemed to sense what was coming, and his expression changed. He lunged forward to stop Leon, but it was too late.

I grabbed the megaphone from the security guard standing next to me. My voice echoed throughout the lobby.

"Everyone, take a look at this video. Once you've watched it, you can decide if you still want to defend this lying father-son duo."

On the night of the contract signing, Cedric showed up wearing a baseball cap and a face mask, covering himself from head to toe. The woman pretending to be me stood beside him, along with Janet, who was waiting to get her hands on the money to pay off her gambling debts."Four million dollars, paid in full, right?" Cedric urged Vincent, his voice tense."Mr. Zimmer, what's the rush? This place is worth much more than that," Vincent said with a smile, trying to stall for time."We need the money to move abroad. Enough talk. Just give us the money!" Janet snapped impatiently, slamming her hand on the table.Just as Cedric was about to sign the contract, the office door swung open."How can you sell the house without even bothering to notify the owner?" I strode into the office, flanked by two well-dressed lawyers.Cedric's hand trembled, and his pen dropped to the floor."S-Susan, what brings you here?" he stammered."If I didn't come, how would I ever get to watch this show y

That night, I reached out to one of the top detective agencies in the industry.Since that woman, Megan Scott, had already been involved with Cedric six months ago, their encounter at the escape room wouldn't be the only time they'd met.I wanted to know everything about her. More importantly, I needed to find out what was going on with that fake medical report. The detective agency worked incredibly fast. In just one night, they sent me a detailed dossier. As I scanned through the pages, I let out a cold laugh.Megan was nothing like the rich heiress Cedric thought she was. She was actually a seasoned gold digger who frequented luxury clubs, specifically targeting wealthy, lonely married men.But the most interesting part was she had recently become addicted to online gambling and was drowning in debt. She was constantly on the run, trying to hide from her creditors.Seeing this, a brilliant scheme instantly took shape in my mind.To keep Cedric from getting suspicious, I unfro

I kept my word. That very day, I canceled all the utility payments tied to the house.I also texted my bank relationship manager and asked him to freeze the mortgage auto-debits. Even if it hurt my credit score in the short term, I was determined to make life difficult for those leeches. On the third day of living without water or electricity, Cedric stormed into the lobby of the five-star hotel where I was staying. A few reporters from obscure tabloids followed close behind him, along with Janet, who was livestreaming everything on her phone. The second he spotted me, Cedric charged toward me, demanding an explanation. "Susan! How dare you live the good life here while leaving the rest of us to freeze and starve in the dark?"The hotel security guards were well-trained. They stepped forward and blocked his way.The reporters' cameras went off in a frenzy around us. The flashes were so blinding that I could barely keep my eyes open.Ever since I released the surveillance footag

With Ethan's green light, the head of security stopped holding back. He waved a hand, and the security guards dragged Cedric and John out by force."Susan! You can't do this to me! I'm your husband! Honey, I was wrong. Please forgive me just this once!" Cedric pleaded.…I had thought that once I exposed Cedric's true colors in front of everyone, I would finally be able to divorce him smoothly. But when I picked Dad up from the hotel and brought him home that evening, I discovered that the locks had been changed.Loud music from the television blared from inside, along with Janet's excited screams as she played video games.I banged hard on the door. The noise inside abruptly stopped, replaced by John's loud, arrogant voice."Who is it? If it's that heartless woman Susan, don't even think about coming in! My son owns half of this house. Our whole family lives here now, so let's see what you can do about it!"Standing behind me, Dad tugged lightly at my sleeve, his hands tremblin

The video showed exactly what I had copied from the surveillance footage at the escape room that day. Many of my colleagues had attended my wedding two years ago, so they recognized the man on screen instantly. The timestamp was clearly displayed in the bottom-right corner of the footage. It showed the exact time I had been abroad, working myself to the bone for a company project. The noise in the lobby died down instantly. Everyone's eyes were glued to the screen. Then came the part where Cedric and that vixen started talking. The entire lobby fell deathly silent. That woman giggled as she nestled into Cedric's arms and handed him the card with their cartoon portraits on it."Here, take it," she said with a playful smile. "Consider this a one-of-a-kind token of our love.""By the way, when is that old hag of yours coming back?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.Cedric let out a disdainful snort. "Who cares about her? She's nothing but a walking ATM. She's boring as hell. Nothing
