Chapter 3

Author: Ginger King
I sneered bitterly to myself.

Over the past few years, I had pulled strings to get Janet the job she had now. I had even paid for the car she drove, which had cost well over ten thousand dollars. Even her monthly allowance had come straight from my paycheck, which Cedric secretly gave her.

Just as I was about to refuse, my phone vibrated in my pocket.

The caller ID displayed Cedric's name. I picked up, and his arrogant voice came through the line.

"Susan, you saw the video online, didn't you? How do you feel now? Scared, huh? If you are, write me a 30-thousand-word apology letter and post it online for everyone to see!"

Then, he added threateningly, "Unfreeze all my cards and buy Janet a car. Otherwise, this isn't over!"

Hearing the arrogance in his voice, strangely enough, my anger began to settle.

"Cedric, keep dreaming," I said coldly. "Find yourself a good lawyer. I'm going to file for divorce and make sure you walk away with nothing!"

Before he could respond, I hung up.

Janet's expression shifted the moment she heard my words.

"Susan, what's with that attitude? Are you really calling it quits?" she asked with a smirk. "Well, whatever. My brother is so handsome. There are plenty of women chasing after him. He doesn't need you anyway."

She looked at me with a teasing smile, clearly implying something more.

Instead of blowing up, I instantly put on a helpless, heartbroken expression and let out a heavy sigh.

"Janet, I've always treated you like my own sister. Of course I'd love to buy you a car for your wedding. But you saw what happened. All my money is in Cedric's hands. He even maxed out my card yesterday," I said softly, my voice trembling with fake sorrow.

"If he's willing to hand over the money to buy you a new car, I won't go through with the divorce. But unfortunately, he's spent all that money. I have no choice but to get divorced and cut my losses before it's too late."

Janet's forehead creased in anger the moment she heard that.

"All gone? Impossible!" she blurted out. "Just last month, I saw over 500 thousand dollars in his account with my own eyes. He promised me he'd set aside that money for my wedding and my new car!"

I kept my expression neutral and casually added more fuel to the fire.

"Is that so? How strange," I said softly, tilting my head in confusion.

"Yesterday, he told me he was broke. Besides, I checked the transaction records. He'd spent all the money on women's luxury goods—designer handbags, limited-edition fragrances, and the like. I assumed they were for you."

"Bullshit! He definitely bought those for that vixen!"

My heart sank, but I put on a look of disbelief.

"What vixen? Don't make things up. He isn't that kind of man."

"How is he not?" Janet shot back defiantly.

She was starting to get anxious. To prove she wasn't lying, she pulled out her phone and shoved a photo in my face.

"Look! I took this six months ago! He said he was on a business trip, but he was actually off doing an escape room with this woman."

Six months ago, I had been on a business trip abroad.

To secure a multi-million-dollar contract, I had worked myself to the bone, writhing on the floor from severe stomach cramps. And all that time, Cedric had been out there flirting with another woman!

Even that so-called gift card that had nearly starved Dad and driven him to the hospital had been a token of Cedric's love for his mistress!

On the night of the contract signing, Cedric showed up wearing a baseball cap and a face mask, covering himself from head to toe. The woman pretending to be me stood beside him, along with Janet, who was waiting to get her hands on the money to pay off her gambling debts."Four million dollars, paid in full, right?" Cedric urged Vincent, his voice tense."Mr. Zimmer, what's the rush? This place is worth much more than that," Vincent said with a smile, trying to stall for time."We need the money to move abroad. Enough talk. Just give us the money!" Janet snapped impatiently, slamming her hand on the table.Just as Cedric was about to sign the contract, the office door swung open."How can you sell the house without even bothering to notify the owner?" I strode into the office, flanked by two well-dressed lawyers.Cedric's hand trembled, and his pen dropped to the floor."S-Susan, what brings you here?" he stammered."If I didn't come, how would I ever get to watch this show y

That night, I reached out to one of the top detective agencies in the industry.Since that woman, Megan Scott, had already been involved with Cedric six months ago, their encounter at the escape room wouldn't be the only time they'd met.I wanted to know everything about her. More importantly, I needed to find out what was going on with that fake medical report. The detective agency worked incredibly fast. In just one night, they sent me a detailed dossier. As I scanned through the pages, I let out a cold laugh.Megan was nothing like the rich heiress Cedric thought she was. She was actually a seasoned gold digger who frequented luxury clubs, specifically targeting wealthy, lonely married men.But the most interesting part was she had recently become addicted to online gambling and was drowning in debt. She was constantly on the run, trying to hide from her creditors.Seeing this, a brilliant scheme instantly took shape in my mind.To keep Cedric from getting suspicious, I unfro

I kept my word. That very day, I canceled all the utility payments tied to the house.I also texted my bank relationship manager and asked him to freeze the mortgage auto-debits. Even if it hurt my credit score in the short term, I was determined to make life difficult for those leeches. On the third day of living without water or electricity, Cedric stormed into the lobby of the five-star hotel where I was staying. A few reporters from obscure tabloids followed close behind him, along with Janet, who was livestreaming everything on her phone. The second he spotted me, Cedric charged toward me, demanding an explanation. "Susan! How dare you live the good life here while leaving the rest of us to freeze and starve in the dark?"The hotel security guards were well-trained. They stepped forward and blocked his way.The reporters' cameras went off in a frenzy around us. The flashes were so blinding that I could barely keep my eyes open.Ever since I released the surveillance footag

With Ethan's green light, the head of security stopped holding back. He waved a hand, and the security guards dragged Cedric and John out by force."Susan! You can't do this to me! I'm your husband! Honey, I was wrong. Please forgive me just this once!" Cedric pleaded.…I had thought that once I exposed Cedric's true colors in front of everyone, I would finally be able to divorce him smoothly. But when I picked Dad up from the hotel and brought him home that evening, I discovered that the locks had been changed.Loud music from the television blared from inside, along with Janet's excited screams as she played video games.I banged hard on the door. The noise inside abruptly stopped, replaced by John's loud, arrogant voice."Who is it? If it's that heartless woman Susan, don't even think about coming in! My son owns half of this house. Our whole family lives here now, so let's see what you can do about it!"Standing behind me, Dad tugged lightly at my sleeve, his hands tremblin

The video showed exactly what I had copied from the surveillance footage at the escape room that day. Many of my colleagues had attended my wedding two years ago, so they recognized the man on screen instantly. The timestamp was clearly displayed in the bottom-right corner of the footage. It showed the exact time I had been abroad, working myself to the bone for a company project. The noise in the lobby died down instantly. Everyone's eyes were glued to the screen. Then came the part where Cedric and that vixen started talking. The entire lobby fell deathly silent. That woman giggled as she nestled into Cedric's arms and handed him the card with their cartoon portraits on it."Here, take it," she said with a playful smile. "Consider this a one-of-a-kind token of our love.""By the way, when is that old hag of yours coming back?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.Cedric let out a disdainful snort. "Who cares about her? She's nothing but a walking ATM. She's boring as hell. Nothing

After leaving Janet's place, I drove straight to the popular escape room from the photo. As it happened, one of my closest college friends, Daniel Sterling, was a partner in the business. With his help, pulling up the surveillance footage from that day six months ago was a breeze. On the monitor, Cedric had one arm around the waist of a flashily dressed young woman. The two of them were clearly intimate. After they finished the game, they kissed without a care in the world in front of the machine that printed custom souvenir cards. The woman handed him a card printed with cartoon portraits of the two of them.Watching their sickening faces on the screen, I smiled, thinking, "Cedric Zimmer, since you have no shame, I'll play this game with you until the very end."I had Daniel save an HD copy of the video onto my flash drive. The next day, I went to work as usual. The moment I stepped into the lobby, I heard a commotion. A crowd had gathered near the entrance.Standing right at t
