MasukELIANA
After a twenty minute drive, my car pulls up at the school’s parking lot at my usual parking spot. I turn off the engine and grab my backpack from the backseat then alight the car. I look around the parking lot and my lips curl into a smile when I spot Ethan's car parked a few metres from mine. I can't help but feel that ache in my heart, the desire to see him. Without a second thought, I turn on my heels to go find him. Today is an important day to him, to both of us and I want him to know that I have his back. I will always do. Always. We have been dating for two damn years now but it feels like yesterday. He's my first boyfriend, my first everything and we have made so many plans together. We have a whole future planned out and I can't wait for it to turn into reality. A simple house with a picket fence, a dog and two or three kids, him achieving his dreams of being a professional hockey player, fulfilling my dreams of becoming a sport's doctor since I love hockey and I would like to take care of him when he's injured… My eyes find him across the field. The smile on my face fades away slowly and I crease my eyebrows when I notice he's talking to a redhead, laughing and they seemed to be comfortable around each other. There’s this uneasy feeling at the pit of my stomach. I have never seen the girl and they look so close. I know all of Ethan's friends because most of them are his teammates. Taking a deep breath, I push the feeling away, trying not to allow negative thoughts to get in my head and walk to him. “Ethan?” I call in a gentle voice and he turns to look in my direction and so is the redhead. “Eliana?” He responds with a little surprise. Perhaps he wasn't expecting me to show up or something. However, the surprise is replaced with a soft smile. That kind of smile that he always puts on whenever he lays his eyes on me and I relax. The redhead looks at me from head to toe and she makes a face which I don't care to read since I’m used to those kinds of looks anyway. I hold her stare, not backing down, “Oh Eliana, meet Tess. She's my mother's best friend's daughter. She transferred to Hill in junior year a day ago. She hasn't made any friends yet and that's why she's hanging with me. She’s my childhood friend too.” I turn to look at Tess and nod to Ethan's words in understanding. Now it makes sense why they looked so comfortable while talking and laughing. There was this familiarity between the two which I couldn't wrap my head around. It felt like they knew each other too well. “Nice to meet you, Tess.” I respond with a smile since I don't want to look rude to Ethan's friend. He has always respected my best friend Zoe and I think it's only fair if I respected his friend too. “Tess, please meet Eliana. She's the one I have been telling you about. She helps me a lot with hockey.” Ethan says and I nod with a smile. Tess goes quiet for a minute but she manages a subtle smile. “Nice to meet you, Eliana.” She says. However, I could tell that she isn't that…happy to meet me. “I think I should get going. I wish you good luck with your game today, Ethan. I will be cheering for you.” She turns her attention to Ethan, smiling at him sweetly then turns to me. “ I guess…I’ll see you too, Eliana.” The corner of her lips twists into a smile and I nod at her word, smiling back. She turns around and walks away. “Don't mind her, she's a little distant when she isn't used to you but once you get to know her, she's a good person. I promised her mother that I would help her get through the struggles of adapting to the new environment. I hope you get it.” Ethan explains to me briefly and I nod in understanding as I know the feeling too well. “How are you feeling? Ready?” I ask, brushing off the Tess topic. Ethan releases a deep breath, “ Hell yeah! We have been training for this particular day!” He says in confidence and the corner of my lips lifts up into a smile. “ I hope you and your team won't disappoint. You need to win the first match so that you can have the advantage over the Hawkers for the remaining two games to present Python in the tournament championship.”I remind Ethan and he smiles at me. “I won't disappoint you, Eli. You have to believe in me.” He assures me, cradling my face. “I believe in you. Don't forget about what I told you. He has weakness on his left side and he experiences tunnel vision too. Use his weaknesses to your advantage. And don't let him know about your weaknesses because he will exploit them and use them to his advantage. You know how it works, never let the enemy find out your weakness.” I remind him and he smiles broadly. “I can't forget about such important information. Have you ever tried being a coach? I heard it pays well. Perhaps you can be Mathew’s assistant coach.” Ethan jokes, referring to Python's coach. I roll my eyes playfully at his words. “Well…you can say I learned some tips from the best.” I joke back, referring to uncle James. “I can't debate about it.” He raises his hands in surrender since it's the truth. Uncle James used to be one of the top hockey players in the country. However, his career ended a little early because of a serious knee injury. He retired early and decided to become a coach to stay connected to hockey. My heart tightens when I give it a thought. He's one of the reasons why I would like to be a sport’s doctor… “My team and I are going to give it our best.” Ethan's voice cuts through my thoughts. My attention shifts to him and I see the fire burning in his eyes. The corner of my lips curls into a smile. I dart my eyes around the open field and my eyes easily finds him. He's kissing a girl, grabbing her arse. 'I hope you're ready, dear brother.' I say in my head, the smile broadening.ELIANA The blaring alarm wakes me up and a groan escapes my mouth. I reach for the clock on the side bed table and shut it down. I stay on the bed for a while, my mind wandering around for a second. The memories of the previous night flashes in my mind and my lips curl into a smile. I recall the late night conversation that I had with Jackson in the kitchen, the deal and the conversation with uncle James thereafter. I was able to sleep after talking to uncle James. Heaving a deep sigh, I shove off the blankets, grab a clean towel and head over to the bathroom to freshen up. And when I’m done in the bathroom, I walk back to my room, change into uniforms, grab my backpack and head over to the kitchen. A strong aroma of coffee from the kitchen hits my nostrils, awakening my sick addition to caffeine. There's faint voices inside the kitchen and laughter. Releasing a breath, I walk inside the kitchen.
ELIANAWalking into my room, I close the door behind me and lean on it for a moment. The conversation that I shared with Jackson in the kitchen is still fresh and loud in my head.“Deal,” His deep, masculine voice echoes in my head like it's some sort of music or something. A smile tugs at the corner of my lips. Still, I can't believe it.I check the time on the digital wall clock and that's when I realise it's past midnight. My intention was to fetch a glass of water downstairs and come back to my room. Bumping into Jackson in the middle of the night looking all sweaty from the intensive training, helping him with the blisters and making a deal with him wasn't a part of the plan but…I’m glad it happened. For the first time, Jackson and I agreed on something without arguing. And it's the first time that we had such a lengthy conversation.Heaving a deep sigh, I walk to the bedside table and grab my phone then sit
Chapter ELIANA I turn off the tap, reach for a towel and dry my hands. It is silent for a while inside the kitchen, the atmosphere thick with tension and something more that I couldn't quite wrap my head around, Jax’s words still ringing in my head. Slowly, I turn around to look at him and for a moment, I think that he’s joking but by the look on his face, he looks serious. He stares back at me, his blue eyes sharp just like he could see through my soul and realise how badly I have been wanting to hear those words from him. “I thought…you don't want trouble?” I ask with a raised eyebrow, referring to his statement in the morning during breakfast, praying cool so that he doesn't realise my curiosity. His jaw clenches upon hearing my words and his eyes darken. “Of course I wouldn't if there was another way. I thought…you didn't want trouble either.” He counters back. The corner of his lips tips up into a smirk, my hand itching to slap it away.I know damn well that he wa
ELIANAA frustrated sigh escapes from my lips as I turn on my sides for the thousandth time, trying to get some sleep but…to no avail. I stare at the digital wall clock, watching the clock tick in slow motion and it feels like time has been frozen. I close my eyes, clear my mind and try again. A few minutes pass by but…it's all in vain. I sigh in defeat and shove away the blankets, climbing down from the bed and leave my room. It's quiet as I walk down the hallway and descend the grand stairs. Of course I don't expect anyone to be awake in the middle of the night. My mother went to bed early because she was exhausted from her daily florist job.She told me that she had a lot of orders today and didn't have enough time to rest in between. For uncle Robert, he came home a little late and he looked exhausted as well. He mentioned about having a late meeting with investors. And for Jackson, I don't have any idea if he had gone to bed or not. The last
JACKSON “This is the last chance, Jackson. No next time. Your career depends on it and so is mine. If you want to stand a chance to be recognised at the championship, you’ll have to win the two remaining games. Or else…you’ll become a substitute and we all know that isn't good.” The coach’s words replayed in my head over and over again like annoying music put on repeat, loud, hard to ignore.“ Fuck you Ethan!” I curse through gritted teeth, my grip tightening on the steering wheel as my car pulls through the gates and I drive straight ahead to the parking lot.A low growl escapes my lips, the desire to let out all the frustration that has been building up within me throughout the drive so strong. Turning off the engine, I punch the centre of the steering wheel so hard that my car honks. However, that doesn't make me feel any better. I unbuckle the seatbelts and head straight to the mansion, my hands fisted to my sides.I open the door and she's t
JACKSON It has already been three damn days without skating on the ice. Even though I don't want to admit it out loud, it feels like forever. I have been dry practising every single day after school back at home using the tiny information that Eliana gave me. I have been trying my best to perfect my left side and strengthen the right side so that it would be easy to kick Ethan's ass the next time we meet in the rink.I look across the big hall and spot him. It's all his fault that all this is happening. It's his damn fault that I have missed the feeling of being on ice for fucking three days. As though he senses my eyes on him, he turns to look at me and I don't miss the little curl at the corner of his lips. My jaw clenches and I’m tempted to walk to him and punch the stupid smirk away from his face but…I take a deep breath to calm my nerves. I know damn well that he's doing all that to get a reaction from me.The supervising teacher clears his throat intentionally and I turn my att
