Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: River Snapshot
When Quinn came home to the villa and saw my eyes red from crying, she immediately hugged me with her eyes full of guilt. She started with an apology, "Conrad, I'm sorry. Back then, after my father passed away, I had no choice but to return to Oceanton and inherit the family business. Your social status was too low. The elders in my family would never have let me marry you."

I could not listen anymore and shoved her away. "So you married someone else? Quinn, what did those seven years apart even mean?"

Quinn looked at me, her expression settling back into calm. "Conrad… You must understand I'm the heir to the Summers family. I have my own duties. Hector and I are on the same level, and our marriage benefits both families. Hector said that as long as you behave, he can turn a blind eye and let you stay by my side.

I looked up at her as tears rolled down my cheeks. Quinn then raised her hand and wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes. "Conrad, we've been together for so many years. I won't mistreat you. If you want to stay in Oceanton, I'll arrange for you to join the company as my personal assistant."

I slapped her across the face. While she stared at me in shock, I grabbed my luggage and left the villa. After I got into a taxi, Quinn sent me a voice message, "Conrad, stop being stubborn. Summers Group isn't somewhere just anyone can walk into. I'll give you three days to think it over."

Then she transferred ten thousand dollars to me.

In the past, she had never sent me more than a thousand dollars at a time to keep up appearances. Now, she easily gave me ten thousand dollars.

I did not reply and rejected the transfer.

After renting a place and settling in, I switched on my phone again.

Everyone was losing their minds over the trending topics.

Someone had posted a video of me outside the company online. I looked especially pathetic in the video, with shifting eyes.

Every trending topic said Quinn had cheated, and that her boy toy had boldly shown up at her company. Despite being Quinn's real boyfriend, I had become the homewrecker everyone despised.

I immediately posted the story of my relationship with Quinn, along with our chat records. The timeline clearly showed that Quinn and I had been together long before she married Hector.

Public opinion flipped and the whole internet cursed her name instead. Quinn called several times, but I hung up right away.

A few minutes later, Hector posted their marriage certificate on social media. He said he and his wife had a harmonious relationship and accused me of staging everything for attention.

Summers Group's public relations team personally stepped in, claiming the chat records were fabricated, and threatened to send me a legal notice for defamation.

Gossip accounts spread rumors everywhere, calling me a boy toy provoking the legal husband.

The comments under the post turned into a disaster.

[The homewrecker failed to fight back and even got threatened with a legal notice. Hilarious!]

[That's the real husband for you. A few words were enough to crush this arrogant homewrecker!]

[He destroyed someone else's family and he still wanted to get attention by fighting back? Gross.]

My inbox was filled with abuse, and some people even told me to end myself.

Half an hour later, the post was removed, and my account was banned.

For the first time, I understood how ridiculous I was in the face of absolute power.

My phone rang repeatedly. I refused to answer, so the person on the other end kept calling. In the end, I pressed the answer button.

The person calling me was not Quinn, but Hector.

"Conrad." His laugh was full of contempt. "Let's talk."

  • A Fabrication of Seven Years   Chapter 10

I chose to settle in a small town far, far away from Oceanton. It felt like spring here all year, with beautiful scenery. It was the perfect place to forget everything.I used the last of my savings to open a flower shop in town. The town was near a popular tourist attraction, so business was pretty good.No one here knew me, and no one pointed their fingers at me. The neighbors were all friendly and often came by to buy flowers. No shrill voices were echoing in my ears anymore. Once night fell, the town became especially quiet. When I saw news about Quinn again, a long time had already passed. She had given birth to a son. On the day of the baby's sip-and-see party, one month after her son's birth, she invited every notable figure in Oceanton.I looked at the photo of their family of three, and I felt nothing. It turned out that letting go of a love that I thought I could not live without was not that hard.-The next time I saw Quinn was two years later.I was watering the f

Half a month later, my dad was finally discharged from the hospital. We returned from the city of Edgeworth to our home in the countryside. After learning the truth, my dad finally stopped being angry with me and loudly cursed Quinn for being so heartless. But the villagers who had already heard the gossip were convinced I was a homewrecker and no explanation helped.Every time I went out, someone would point at me behind my back and whisper among themselves. When I opened my social media app again, I found that my account had been unbanned at some point. My inbox would show lots of notifications every day after that, all of them abusive.Gossip accounts treated me like content and posted about me every few days. Many bloggers also maliciously edited the original videos and made their own spin on them. The labels "rumormonger" and "homewrecker" had been branded onto me, and I could no longer get rid of them.Every time I went online, those awful posts and comments would drown me,

I wanted to push Quinn away, but she only held me tighter. "Conrad, I know everything now. Your father got sick, and Hector forced you to leave. I've missed you so much these past few days."I used all my strength to push her away and reminded her coldly, "Ms. Sanders, we've already broken up. No one forced me. I chose to leave.""Conrad, I'm sorry. I was wrong for hiding my marriage from you." Quinn grabbed my hand and pressed it to her upper chest, her eyes full of affection. "Hector and I are in an arranged, transactional marriage. We each get what we need. The person I've loved most has always been you."Conrad, come back with me. Other than marriage, I can give you anything. I can give you more money than you could ever spend, and I'll hire the best medical experts to treat your father."Looking into her pleading eyes, I suddenly felt disgusted. After a full decade together, I realized I had never truly seen Quinn this clearly. She could not give up Summers Group, and she coul

When I dragged my luggage to Edgeworth Hospital, my dad had already finished his surgery and was now in stable condition. The moment I walked into the ward, more than a dozen pairs of eyes turned toward me. They had the same sneers I had gotten used to in Oceanton."Conrad, what were you thinking? Why didn't you just get married properly? Why did you have to become some woman's boy toy?""Do you even need to ask? It must be because it pays well. Otherwise, how could he have come up with fifty thousand dollars?""What did our family do to deserve such a family member? You made your dad so enraged that he ended up in the hospital!"I felt numb as I faced my relatives' accusations. Then, I looked straight at my mom. Her hair had gone a little whiter as she sat beside my dad's hospital bed, her eyes red from crying. Her voice was hoarse, and resentment filled her eyes. "Conrad, that fifty thousand dollars... Was it..."Even with the savings I had built over the years, I could never h

At the charity gala, Quinn received the breakup message, and her phone nearly slipped from her hand. She immediately replied: [Conrad, stop making such a fuss. We've been together for ten years. You think you can break up with me just because you say so?]But the message did not go through as Conrad had blocked her. They had been together for so many years. Whenever they argued, the worst they had done was to refuse to answer each other's calls or reply to messages. They had never blocked each other.Quinn could no longer sit still. She found an excuse to leave the gala and ran to the rooftop to call him. However, all she got was, "The number you've dialed is unavailable."After the gala ended, Quinn did not go home with Hector for once. Instead, she drove straight to Conrad's place. She rushed upstairs and pounded on the door, but no one answered. The landlord could not stand the noise and opened the door, shouting loudly, "Stop banging the door! That young man already left last

Hector arranged for me to apologize on a livestream from a TV station. After I signed the nondisclosure agreement, I faced more than a dozen cameras and read from the script like a machine. "Hello, everyone. My name is Conrad Brown. Regarding the recent controversy online, I'm here to formally apologize to Mr. Hector Gomez and Ms. Quinn Summers..."I fabricated the chat records for attention. Quinn and I were only classmates."The number of viewers soared, and the comments were full of abuse. Netizens flooded the screen, telling me to get out of Oceanton. Every comment felt like an invisible bullet. By the time I came back to myself, my heart was already full of holes. After the livestream ended, Hector took out several stacks of cash and tossed them onto the floor. "Oops. My hand slipped. Pick it up yourself."The bills were scattered across the floor."Hector, don't push it!" I yelled. Just as I was about to charge at him, his bodyguards managed to grab me first. Someone kicked
