Chapter 6

Author: Tranquil Phoenix
Dog kennel? Did he really leave Summer in a dog kennel? Summer was scared of dogs! Whitney got up with clenched teeth, and she ran out of the hospital without looking back.

Lexie felt a little upset to see Henry let Summer off so easily. "Mrs. Jordan is still the most important person to you, am I right, Henry? But if it wasn't for her, her friend would never have dared to have treated me that way…"

"I know." Henry stroked her head. "I promise to get you justice. It won't be easy for Whitney to save Summer even if she gets to the dog kennel."

Lexie understood right away that Henry wanted to punish Whitney as well. She pretended to be worried about it. "Wouldn't it hurt Mrs. Jordan if you treated her this way?"

Henry replied with indifference, "Then how about I send someone to stop her?"

Lexie pouted and gently hit him on the chest. "You're being cheeky!"

Henry laughed and pulled her into his arms, but the look in his eyes was solemn. He did not want to punish Whitney, but he was also not willing to see Lexie getting hurt. If Whitney was hurt in the promise, he would make it up to Whitney later. All he wanted was for Whitney to know that some lines could not be crossed.

At the dog kennel.

When Whitney arrived, Summer was curled up in a ball inside a cage, and she was almost dying. Outside the cage were three massive pit bulls staring at her. They had been starved for a long time, and they bore their sharp teeth, drooling at their mouths while circling the cage in frustration. Summer had suffered a breakdown while inside the cage, and it had been two days and nights since she last ate or drank. In addition to that, the mental and emotional stress had taken a toll on her.

"Summer!" Whitney cried as she approached the cage, but the pack of dogs stared back at her, looking like they would attack at any moment. Whitney knew that she would be dead if she went anywhere near the cage. "Hold on, Summer! I'll buy some meat to distract them. Promise me you'll hold on!"

All Summer could do was use the last of her strength to reach out to Whitney. "Don't go… Whitney… I'm dying…"

"Nothing will happen to you, Summer! I won't let you die!" Whitney was heartbroken to see Summer that way. She teared up as she bent over to pick up a stick from the ground, and she clenched her teeth as she ran toward the pit bulls.

The pack of dogs lunged at Whitney, and she held up the stick to fight them. Her arms were soon bleeding from the dogs' scratches, causing her great pain, but Whitney did not stop. She finally made her way to the cage, and she unlocked it with the key in her hand.

"Let's go, Summer!" Whitney helped up the limp Summer, and they ran toward the gates. They stumbled along, and with great difficulty, they got out of the dog kennel only to find that the gates had been locked from the outside. The gates would not open, no matter how hard Whitney tried.

"Open up! Who's out there?! Henry! Please open the gates! I'm begging you!" Whitney knocked and pulled with all her might, and she started roaring toward the gates in despair.

A bodyguard outside replied coldly, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Jordan. Please bear with this. We're under orders from Mr. Jordan."

This was all Henry's doing! Hate flashed in Whitney's eyes as she clenched hard on the stick in her hand. It never occurred to her that Henry could be so heartless!

That was when the three pit bulls lunged at them ferociously from behind. Whitney was about to swing her stick at them when Summer used every ounce of strength left in her to push Whitney away to safety.

The next second, the dog at the front jumped forward and bit hard on Summer's left arm with its sharp teeth.

"Argh!"

Summer's left arm was torn from her body, and blood started gushing from it. She fell hard with a loud slam to the ground, convulsing in great pain, with Whitney turning pale as she witnessed all of this happening.

"No! Summer!" She dashed toward Summer and hugged Summer tightly in her arms as her tears streamed down her face. "How can you be stupid enough to do something like this, Summer?!"

The dogs were tearing at Summer's broken arm, and Whitney grabbed the stick to run crazily at the dogs to snatch Summer's arm back from the dogs' mouths. Just as Whitney was about to break down in despair, the gates to the dog kennel opened, and she dragged Summer out of there. "Don't be afraid, Summer. We're going to the hospital right now. I won't let anything happen to you!"

Summer was in surgery for nine hours. Even though the doctors managed to save her life, her arm could not be reattached.

Whitney sat outside the hospital corridor without moving until the next morning, when her phone vibrated four times. The first message was from her divorce lawyer, who informed her that her divorce was now official. The second message was from that man: [I'll be waiting for you at the courthouse.]

Henry sent the third message: [Come home early tonight, Whitney. I have a surprise for you.]

The last message was from an unknown number: [Henry deleted the surveillance footage you sent to me without even looking at it, Mrs. Jordan. Do you know why? It's because he believes me, and not you!. Also, I'm so sorry to hear that your best friend lost her arm. What a pity!]

Whitney clenched her phone. She did not reply to any of the messages, but got up to leave the hospital.

Outside the courthouse, her divorce lawyer handed her the divorce papers, and Whitney headed inside with them to officially marry the man in a courthouse wedding.

Whitney remained stoic throughout the process. The man next to her smiled as he asked, "You don't look like you're willing to marry me. Are you regretting your decision?"

She looked up from under the sun to look at the man and said slowly, "Help me get revenge, Lucas. I want Henry Jordan and Lexie Fontaine to pay for what they did!"

Henry kept yelling outside the door, as if he could stop Whitney from marrying another man if he shouted his objections with all his might, but Whitney ignored his yelling. All she did was look at the priest and answer with conviction, "I do."It broke Henry's heart, and he fell to the ground, sitting there while tears streamed down his face. "Why? Why would you marry him?""The groom may now kiss the bride," the priest announced, and Lucas lowered his head to kiss Whitney's soft lips. Everyone applauded, and the couple hugged each other as everyone shouted their blessings.Henry went crazy at the sight, and he tried to barge into the church. "Whitney!""Please leave, Mr. Jordan, or we'll be forced to take action against you."The bodyguards tried to hold him back, but Henry refused to budge. They had no choice but to resort to more violent measures. While they were punching Henry, Whitney was holding Lucas' arm, smiling as she accepted the blessing of her guests. "Whitney! I w

"She's marrying Mr. Grant today, and it's the attention of everyone citywide… I don't understand how Mrs. Jordan changed into another person in just a few short days. She used to love you so much…""Whitney isn't to blame." Henry looked up slowly. "This is all my fault. I shouldn't have been with another woman while she was in a coma. If she hadn't pushed me away in that car accident, I would have been the one in a coma. She saved my life, but I repaid her by sleeping with another woman. "I promised to break ties with that woman once Whitney woke up from her coma, but I did not keep the promise when I saw how indifferent Whitney was about my adulterous relationship. It never occurred to me that Whitney had been thinking about leaving me! I was stupid. I knew Whitney was never one to tolerate such situations."You should leave, Jake. The company has gone bankrupt, and you don't need to work for me anymore."Jake Lehman, his assistant, looked at him worriedly. "Are you alright being

Whitney thought about it for quite a while before finally getting the maids to invite Henry into the house. Henry was drenched, and the floor became covered in rainwater the moment he stepped inside. Whitney looked at him with disdain and got the maids to clean up the floor and give Henry a towel. She did not plan on letting him inside for a hot bath and a change of fresh clothes."I remember I still have several pieces of clothing left here. Can I have a hot bath here and change my clothes?""Those clothes have been thrown out long ago." Whitney did not expect him to make the request. "Also, I'm about to get married, so it isn't convenient for me to let you in for a hot bath."Henry stood silent for a long time. Whitney never used to be like this. She would always get anxious the moment he got slightly wet in the rain, but now, all she felt for him was disdain. "I don't know what I did to make you hate me so much, Whitney. I've told you before that what happened with Summer was j

"You don't need to visit me every day, Whitney. I'm feeling much better. I'm fine." Summer was not in a good place emotionally, and she stayed in bed every day, refusing to move. Her family had no idea that Summer lost her arm to save Whitney, and they felt grateful every time they saw Whitney at the hospital, lamenting about what a good friend she was.Whenever Whitney heard this, she would look at Summer's empty sleeve and start crying. "I'm sorry, Summer. If it weren't for me…""Don't be silly. This isn't your fault." Summer forced a smile at her. "I heard Lexie Fontaine is in prison now. That's great news. It's good enough to be considered revenge for both of us." "Five years in prison is letting her off too easily." Hate flashed in Whitney's eyes. "I won't let Henry get away with this either. Lucas has been planning ways to buy out his company. I'll get revenge on your behalf, Summer. I won't let them have it easy!""Stop beating yourself up about this. Have you forgotten tha

Whitney went to the hospital to visit Summer after visiting her mother, and Lucas volunteered to go with her. When they arrived outside Summer's hospital room, they bumped into Henry, who was there to see Summer as well.Henry had just left the police station. He had spent one night there after being arrested and was only allowed bail the next day. As for Lexie, she was not able to escape prison. In the dimly lit corridor, Henry saw Whitney hugging another man's arm right away. The sight hurt his eyes, and he quickly approached them to pull Whitney away from Lucas to stand right in front of him. "Do you know what you're doing, Whitney? Why are you clinging to another man in bright daylight?""Another man?" The look on Lucas' face changed as he reached out to pull Whitney back into his arms. "Are you talking about me, Mr. Jordan? Have you forgotten that you and Whitney are divorced, and she's now my wife? It's normal for a wife to hold onto her husband's arm."Henry looked at him an

The next day at the Sands', Whitney was sitting on the couch, watching television, while her mother, Diana, kept staring at her. It unsettled Whitney, and she turned off the television to look back at her mother. "Is there something you'd like to say to me, Mom?" Diana hesitated for quite a while before asking, "I heard you made a police report to have Henry arrested. Is that true? What about that post you made on social media? Have you really divorced Henry and married Lucas Grant instead?" It shocked Diana to see the post online, especially when Whitney and Henry had been married for years, and it was doubtful that things between them could get so serious. "It's true that I called the police about him, but he's pretty resourceful to have avoided prison, hasn't he?" Whitney's eyes narrowed as a cold look flashed in them. "He should consider it lucky that I didn't make him and Lexie Fontaine pay for what they did to Summer with their lives.""So, it's true that Summer's arm was
