A Glimpse of Light: Unmasking the Betrayers at My Side

I didn't dare look into the rearview mirror, but the soft, wet sounds of their kiss alone were enough to drive me to ruin.Only at the last second before the traffic light turned green did they reluctantly part."Clara, time flies so fast! When you two first got together, you had just graduated, right? I can't believe you're getting married now!" Evelyn Colombo said, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Her hand casually caressed Marcel Horton's cheek as she continued, "I really envy you, getting to marry a man as amazing as Marcel."Marcel chuckled, his hand reaching over naturally to stroke the back of mine. His touch was as warm as ever, yet at that moment, I felt like being encased in solid ice."Marrying Clara has always been my dream. I'm the luckiest man in the world." He confessed his love to me while his lips still bore the warmth of another woman.Suddenly, I felt so pathetic and pitiable.Tears welled up frantically in my eyes. Just as I opened my mouth to

I barely slept a wink that night.Early the next morning, I was awakened by hushed voices outside my bedroom door."Have you lost your mind? You want to take Clara's place and walk down the aisle as the bride?" Marcel's voice held a note of shock."We're twins anyway. No one will even notice if we swap places. Clara is blind; we just need to find a guy built somewhat like you to walk her through the motions..." Evelyn's voice quavered with tears."Besides, you've already registered your marriage with her legally. Letting me have the ceremony isn't asking for much, is it?"I just want to marry you so badly. Just treat it as fulfilling my final wish. Once the ceremony is over, I promise I'll go back to being a good sister and never cross the line again, alright?"Marcel remained silent for a long time—so long that I thought he was going to refuse. Yet in the end, he nodded. "Okay. I'll grant your wish. But this is the last time you get to be willful."...The wedding ceremony beg

I slowly pushed myself up off the floor.Raising my hand, I summoned every ounce of strength in my body and slapped both Marcel and Evelyn hard across the face."How could the two of you be so shameless?" I snapped.Marcel froze, then looked up into my eyes. My once hollow, lifeless pupils were now glaring straight back into theirs.A flicker of panic flashed across his face. "Y-You can see?"Evelyn panicked as well, clutching her swollen cheek and taking half a step back. But soon, as if realizing something, she placed her hands on her hips and glared back at me with righteous indignation."W-What ridiculous nonsense are you spewing?" she stammered. "You're the shameless one here!"Staring right into their eyes, I poured out the fiery rage consuming my soul."Did you really think I was just a stupid fool kept completely in the dark? When you wore that custom-made wedding gown, stood up on that stage pretending to be me, married my husband, and forced me to go through a fake ce

"Clara... I admit I've done so many horrific, unforgivable things, so it's natural for you to hate me. You can slap me, curse at me... I'll take it all without complaint," Marcel pleaded."But I'm begging you, please just give me one more chance. Even if you don't forgive me, give me a chance to make it up to you."The truth is, every time I looked at Evelyn's face, I thought of you... I hated myself every second of every day for failing to protect you. If I could do it all over again, I wish I was the one going blind."In the past, hearing those words and seeing his tears, I would have relented. But now, after I witnessed the filthy acts he committed with Evelyn, my heart had long since turned to ashes."Why should I?" I said softly. "You know full well how many terrible things you've done, which gives me every right to deny you that chance. If you truly want to make amends, then get out of my life forever."I walked away without a backward glance, heading back to the home we use
