Zelena.

“Why would you lie to him, he is your guardian” Lunaya said with some extra bite to her voice.

“I don’t know if I can trust him yet” I answered. I knew I had to tell her the truth. If she is the only other person that knows about this, then she is the only other person able to help me right now. I need her on my side.

“Zelena, he is your guardian, sworn to protect you, to help you, to guide you. Why would you think that you can’t trust him?” she whispered loudly.

“Because I need to put an end to this prophecy, and I will give my life to do it if I need to. I can’t trust him because if he knew that, he would try and stop me” I told her bluntly,

“And you think I won't?” she gasped.

“I think you will help me save my babies. I think you owe me that much” I grunted angrily.

“I won't let you kill yourself to do it” she hissed.

“You will help me do whatever it takes to end this prophecy. You should have told me the truth. You shouldn’t have waited this long. You owe me!” I yelled. Sh

Zelena.I know fear. I lived my whole life in fear. I have worn it, bathed in it, ate it, and abide by it. It has shaken me to my very core, and attached itself to every inch of me. But the kind of fear that was currently swarming through my stomach, was something I had never experienced before. Before now, fear was all about me. What if he kills me, what if he disfigures me, what if I never escape him? Then after I found Gunner, it became, what if he doesn’t love me, what if he tires of me, what if I lose him? And now, I no longer matter. Everything is for them. What could this prophecy mean for them, will it hurt them, how can I protect them from this? A million and one possible terrible things ran through my mind in quick succession. Disaster after disaster. And my two sweet and beautiful children right in the centre of it all. I looked up at Lunaya. She was sitting on the edge of her seat, watching all of the emotions flicker across my face. I took a deep breath, my lungs burned w

Whiskey.Gunner looked happy this morning. A little too happy. His skin was brighter, his eyes lighter and he held himself higher. What have I missed here?“Did?” I asked with a tilt of my head. He laughed and jumped off the rock.“You’re funny, has anyone ever told you that before?” he teased and poked my shoulder.“No” I barked back.“Well, I think so. Anyways, what I said last night, about taking you back to my pack. Have you thought any more about it?” he chirped and sat down on a log by the fire pit.“I have” I nodded.“Annnnnnnd?” he drawled out, looking up at me through his thick lashes.“I’ll come. But I am making no promises, especially when you refuse to explain why I should go” I conceded and dropped my arms to my sides.“I’ll take it” Gunner shouted happily and shot to his feet. He went about the small clearing, gathering things into a pile. I watched with confusion as he moved busily around the campsite.“What are you doing?” I asked him from my place by the fire.“Packin

Whiskey.Neither one of us fell asleep. I could tell Gunner was awake by his breathing, and because he stank of anxiety. I don’t know what he was anxious about though. We lay silently for hours, side by side, neither one of us speaking. It was strangely comfortable.“Whiskey?” Gunner’s voice whispered, breaking the silence.“Yes?” I whispered back. He took a deep breath and shuffled on the spot,“I want to take you back with me. Back home, to my pack” he said quietly. I rolled over onto my side to face him. He was lying on his stomach, cuddling his pillow under his chin.“Why?” I asked with a frown. He laid his cheek on the pillow and looked over at me. It was pitch black, yet I could see the blue of his eyes swirling through the darkness.“I don’t know where you’ve come from, or where you’re going, but I know that I was meant to find you” he said surely. I rolled back over onto my back and crossed my hands over my stomach. It's what I wanted and what I've been trying to accomplish. T

Whiskey.“You’re still lying. Tell me what you feel when you’re around me” Gunner commanded. His power and authority rolled over me like boiling water. I have never felt anything like it. It was unnerving.“You make me feel safe” I answered unknowingly,“Is that all?” he asked, his voice low and even, almost like he was singing or chanting a spell. I know in my head that I don’t want to answer him, I want to keep my secrets for myself. But his voice rang through my ears like a gentle and calming embrace, convincing me to spill my deepest and darkest secrets.“I feel like I know you, like I can trust you” I answered him,“You can trust me” he cooed peacefully,“I know” I said. My voice no longer sounded like my own. It was like I was dreaming. I could see what was going on, I could feel his influence slipping over me. But I didn’t want to fight it. I welcomed it. It tickled at my skin and fluttered around my heart. I liked it.“Go on” he prompted and walked slowly towards me,“You’re w

Whiskey.“So, where have you come from?” Gunner asked me. He sat across from me at the small firepit. We cooked one of the spruce hens that I caught. It was a fat one too, with lots of meat on it. He was slowly ripping the flesh off the breast, while I gnawed at its leg. After the unexpected cuddle I got from Gunner this morning, I've become more curious about the girl he mentioned, the one waiting for him. I think her name is Zee, or at least that’s what he calls her. He has called me Zee twice now, so he must be missing her a lot to be seeing her face in mine.“Nowhere in particular” I answered. Giving him something, while still giving him nothing. A tactic I have been using all day, every time he has asked me something.“This isn’t exactly a populated area. No towns for miles and the closest pack are hours away. Why would you come all the way out here?” he pushed. He is slowly becoming more brazen and intrusive with his questions. He is curious, that’s a given, but his questions ar
