Chapter 10

Author: Nine Nine
I struggled hard to break free from Taylor's grip. Watching him stubbornly guard my door, I said nothing and headed straight to Jordan's place.

Just before closing the door, I caught sight of Taylor's red-rimmed eyes and trembling fingers. Then, he pressed his hand against the door to prevent it from shutting.

"You still don't believe me, do you? I'll make you believe how determined I am. Would you believe me if I took my heart out for you?"

I saw a twisted smile appear on his face as he pulled a knife from his pocket.

My eyes widened as a bad feeling crept in. The next second, just as I feared, Taylor tried to stab himself in the chest.

"Faith, you'll believe me."

The knife pierced his chest, but he couldn't go any further. I looked up at Jordan, who had grabbed the knife's blade with a frown to stop Taylor from hurting himself.

"Taylor, I won't let Faith feel guilty because of you. Be a man and don't make things so hard for her!"

With that, Jordan threw the knife aside.

As soon as Yvonne was done yelling, Taylor loosened his grip on my hand and turned to punch Jordan, who had just caught up.Jordan's cheek immediately swelled, and a trickle of blood fell from the corner of his mouth. He chuckled and said, "You took Faith for granted. Now that she's divorcing you, you come at me as her husband? Taylor, have you got no shame?"Then, Jordan and Taylor started fighting. When they were nearly done, I stepped in to pull them apart and carefully checked Jordan's injuries.Taylor's eyes instantly turned red. Before, whenever he got even the slightest injury, I would grow frantic and worry about him. But now that he was hurt, I didn't care anymore.Seeing Jordan hurt made my heart ache for some reason, and tears slipped down my cheeks. In the end, Jordan comforted me instead."Faith, I'm your husband! You'd care about an outsider over me?" Taylor's voice trembled with anger.I gathered myself and faced Taylor. "We're getting a divorce. Besides, what Yv

  • A Heart Gone With the Wind   Chapter 8

Taylor and I had been married for ten years, yet it was only when we were about to divorce that he'd finally started paying attention to my preferences and needs.I ate everything on my plate expressionlessly. When I finished, Taylor obediently washed the dishes.Suddenly, I remembered a time when Taylor brought friends over for dinner. They had ordered many dishes, and I spent hours cooking alone. Taylor hadn't helped at all.Even when Yvonne offered to help me, he'd commented mockingly, "Your hands are so delicate. You're not supposed to do such rough work?"I had stared blankly at my hands. Before marriage, my hands were just as delicate, but after marrying Taylor, they had become rough and calloused. One time, Yvonne had proudly worn my wedding ring and asked Taylor who it looked better on. Taylor had said it was her. Then, Yvonne had smirked at me jeeringly. When I tried to snatch the ring back, Taylor had scolded me for being petty."It's just a ring," he'd said.Thinking

Taylor pushed me aside carelessly, and just as I was about to fall, a warm embrace caught me.I looked up to a familiar face—my childhood friend, Jordan Strauss, who had cut off contact with me after going abroad for his studies once I started dating Taylor. After I regained my balance, Jordan let go.Watching Taylor fuss over Yvonne, I felt utterly bored and left. Unexpectedly, Jordan and I were headed in the same direction. It turned out he had just returned to the country and was also invited by Willa to celebrate. The dinner was enjoyable. Besides Willa, Jordan knew my tastes best.Meanwhile, my phone kept lighting up with messages from Taylor, which I ignored. He was asking who Jordan was and when I would come home.He even said he'd packed the restaurant's signature dish for me and was sure I would like it. And I did. After all, I had the same dish sitting right in front of me.When I finished my meal, Taylor seemed to have lost patience. He called me and spoke gently, "B

"What did you say?"The living room was silent for a long moment before I finally heard Taylor speak, his voice strained."I said, let's get a divorce."His face was full of disbelief, as if he couldn't process such incredulous words from my mouth. After all, I had always been the one who couldn't let go of the relationship, not him.Without waiting for him to recover, I headed into the bedroom and came back with the divorce agreement that the lawyer had prepared.Taylor didn't take it, so I shoved it into his hands. It was better that he read it now than argue later. He glanced at it several times before angrily tearing it to shreds and throwing them into the air."Faith, are you insane? You actually want a divorce?"Taylor grabbed my shoulders, his eyes reddening as he stared at me.His grip hurt. I tried to shake him off but couldn't. So, I held his gaze and said calmly, "Didn't you bring it up first? I'm simply agreeing. Let's get it over with peacefully and go our own way

Percy, however, looked a little puzzled as I'd never been this gracious before.Taylor never liked bringing me around his friends, and Percy had even helped cover for him when he hung out with Yvonne. Each time I found out, I'd cause a scene right in front of everyone, making things awkward and leaving Taylor even more annoyed with me.Beatrice sensed the tension and hurriedly linked her arm through mine to lead me to the table. I followed her and handed her the gift I'd prepared. She hadn't done anything wrong to me, and I couldn't ruin her birthday.During dinner, I noticed all the dishes were spicy. I forced down a few bites, even though they upset my stomach. When the discomfort grew worse, I got up and went to the restroom.Taylor glanced at me but quickly looked away.By the time I returned, I overheard him questioning Percy."I told you Yvonne can't have seafood. Why'd you order seafood chowder?"Percy said nothing. Beatrice responded instead, "I ordered it for Faith. S
