Meredith
I slowly regained consciousness, feeling the sheets first and then the faint scent of booze. Booze? My brain gets alarmed, and then I remember I was already at the dormitory. I allowed my eyes to stay closed for a few seconds. It’s not like I was in a hurry to go anywhere. School doesn’t resume for three days, and all I had to do during this period was job hunt for a side job that'll occupy most of my evenings after school. Finally, my eyes flew open, and my face turned to the side. I jumped in fright, not expecting anyone to be on Kayla’s bed. When I finally stood up to get a better look at the body, I found Kayla herself lying down looking completely buzzed out, probably a bit hungover, so I was careful not to rouse her.I'd only been here twenty-four hours and all I could say about her was related to alcoholic beverages.I tiptoed into the bathroom, shutting the door as quietly as possible. I grabbed my brush from the small sink and rinsed it, pressing out a little paste on it and brushing myself while looking into the mirror. The bathroom was quite cosy and wide enough for both of us and even a third person to fit in. So far, everything has been good-looking. The dorm room was painted white and a light shade of purple. Her side was decorated with cutouts from posters and magazines; my side remains plain as I have yet to put anything up. I rinsed the brush and stripped, getting into the shower and regulating it to the perfect temperature. My body could definitely use hot water to feel very relaxed. I got dressed as quietly as possible. The last thing I wanted this morning was for both of us to get into a useless argument and get in each other’s bad books. Something inside me still wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe she was not as bad as she seemed.I knew it was very unadvisable to go out on your own in a country you’re new to, but considering I had a pretty good memory and I’d only be moving totally around the school area, it’s no big deal. Using my key, I locked up behind me, leaving her to continue her sleep.Eldora School of Business, Italy, was a prestigious school in every ramification. It was hard to graduate from college and not get a good job, plus the school itself had everything any business student could ever desire, including a small company where most interns go to intern. It would be difficult to get a side job here as the business is only open to people with degrees, and the cafeteria certainly does not need helping hands. As I walked out of the big, silvery gates, the security officer gave me a small wave, which I returned with a warm smile. Maybe the people of Italy would be nicer than the folks back home. Outside the gates was quite deserted for a weird reason, but I didn't have time to worry about it because up ahead I saw a cafeteria with a sign that read ‘new workers needed. But just as I was rounding up the corner of the building, I felt someone drag me from behind and press a handkerchief over my face, and while I struggled to break free, I felt my consciousness slip from me._____As always, my sense of feeling returned first, and I registered. I was sitting on a cold stone floor, my eyes flying open as my last memories returned to me. All I could see was pitch darkness and the muffled sounds of sobbing coming from all corners of the room. My heartbeat accelerated, and my heart almost flowed out of my mouth in panic as the sound of metallic doors opening was suddenly heard.A girl in cuffs is pushed into the now dimly illuminated room and forcefully chained to the wall. Wanting to take advantage of the situation, I quickly rose to my feet in an attempt to make a beeline for the door, but the cold and forceful grip on the chains around my feet threw me backwards, and like a veil had been removed from my mind, I suddenly realised I’d been kidnapped on my first day in Italy. I stare in horror as another man joins in and the lights are turned on, illuminating everything around us. What was in it was no doubt a house with old goods stacked on shelves all around and a massive pillar in the middle of the room. One of the masked men clears his throat, and all our attention may turn to him."I’m sure you all know your purposes here? You’ve watched a lot of films to know where you’d end up after today. But you," his massive index finger pointed in my direction, and I suddenly began to struggle to breathe. "Me?" I cough out hoarsely. He nodded, and the corners of his eyes wrinkled as though he were smiling. "Your purpose is different from theirs." An alarm goes off in my head.Drugs! Human trafficking! Sex slaves, I slumped to the ground in a pleading posture. "Please no," I said, my voice quivering, the hairs on my neck standing on their ends, and my mind filled with the horrors that awaited me. Please, you cannot do this to me," I begged. I want to play the tough girl and pretend not to care, but the reality of my situation is too heavy to let me reason like a normal person. "Shut up, you’re making so much noise," he said, retreating and switching off the light. A wail escaped my throat as they began to walk away."I swear, if you don’t release me now, I'll make your life hell when I am free. I’d tell the police. You’d pay; just release me now and let’s put all these in the past," I said with as much venom as I could muster despite my fears, and all I was given as a response was a chuckle, and the door slammed in all our faces. "We are so fucking doomed."MeredithLast night, I could have sworn that hunger would kill me first before they all did. But apparently it didn’t; I was rudely woken up from my tired slumber, which I couldn’t fall into in the first place because of the hunger I felt, and was dragged out of the room.My muscles had grown too weak to resist the pulling, so to save myself more damage, I went along willingly. Now we were standing in what looked like a bathroom stall, with a single shower high up and the knobs just within reach. The environment was rather dirty; streaks of what looked like brown water were spread all over the wall. The water closet in the room was now booming with enough algae to feed a pond. I still wondered why they’d brought me here."Get rid of your filthy clothes; it’s time to shower," the masked man who came to fetch me earlier said.I turned to look at him. Was he being serious? I’m freshening up in an area that literally breathes bacteria."No," I argued weakly in a hoarse voice. He cocked a v
MeredithI had thought I had left it behind in New Orleans.Images of the woman laying in her own pool of blood and a man with a bloodied knife in his hand assaulted my brain. I looked at him, and he stared back at me. I was breathing heavily, and the lady from yesterday had already left. His blue eyes narrowed down on me, pinning me in an intense gaze. This man was dangerously beautiful; his pointed nose sat on his pink lips, which had been pressed into a thin line. His jaw looked hard and square, his forehead smooth, and his skin olive. His full brows accentuated his beautiful looks; his hair was pulled backwards into a small bun; and his features left me mesmerised. I stood afloat; fear was running through my veins. He pushed himself off the railings elegantly and went to take a seat on one of the chairs, and I’m left to wonder how such a cold-hearted killer could be this attractive."Come sit with me," he said in a soft yet firm voice that made really wild thoughts roam in my head.
MeredithI never thought I would see the inside of the school environment again.I was left to find a way to fend for myself, apparently being watched by this mystery man who had made a decision to spare my life. He could have finished me off, like he did to that cold lady, but he chose to spare my life. My head was pounding; I think my food was mixed with something that had put me out for some weird reason.I sighed walking into my dorm room when Kayla was wandering around the room. I staggered into my dorm room. My stuff was still on my bed, unpacked."Yo, you look terrible." I shrugged, not knowing what to tell her. It was one thing to scream my lungs out; it was entirely different to spill what I had experienced. She might be the one who is watching me. Not to sound clingy or anything, but he doesn't seem like the kind of man who minces his words. I didn't want to find out what he meant when he said he was watching me. Kayla looked at me with wary eyes and asked, "Are you sure you
MeredithHis name rolled off my tongue in a savoury way. At the same time, it brought shivers down my spine. He was a cold killer, yet he had shown me kindness. My ringtone snapped me out of my thoughts. I was surprised that my phone was still with me. I looked at my desk and saw my bag that had me lost when I was kidnapped. The little cash I had and my phone were still intact."How did these get here?" I asked myself, checking over my shoulder, if anyone was here. I was the only one in the room. The ringtone buzzed, snapping me out of my fear. It was Mom.I groaned, realising just how much she might be worried. I quickly answered the phone."Hey Mom!""You ran off to a new country without notice, and now you won't pick up my calls? Sending lame messages that you are fine?""I sent a message." I glared, wondering if it really was my mom speaking to me. I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. Stupid girl. "I'm so sorry, Mom. It's the beginning of the school season, and everyth
Meredith"Nsh, you don't have to worry about it." Kayla dismissed it as quickly as possible."It sounds like something to worry about." The only thing I knew was that I was having a crisis; I couldn't talk to anyone about it. That was the safest part. If there was a party to drain those sorrows, I wanted to be invited. I just want to see and get acquainted. The mystery man only said not to spill; it wasn't holding me from having fun."It is a party that everyone attends. Like a tradition or something. Every founding family has a party to welcome most people to the school. Including foreigners like yourself.""You make it sound like a cult or something." She had that serious look someone gives you before luring you to their death. "You are not serious, right?"No, I'm not. C'mon, if there was a cult in this school, my parents would pull me out immediately. They did their research before letting me come here. You do not have to worry; it is just a harmless party." She paused, and I was
Meredith. The moment they mentioned Nolan, everything came to a halt.I have never known grief like this. It seems that there is always something to whine about. I imagined everything from the very beginning to the end. The tightness in my chest increased, to say the least, even as I sat in this van waiting for her to spill the details. She gave me his picture. I stared at the picture for a while, running my hands through his face. He is the mystery man, Fabian Salvatore. The one that was not really seen was, according to Kayla, He was supposed to be engaged, and yet he was feeling me under his grasp. I wonder if his fiancée was among them too. I would love to know if putting me through all that was worth it. The pain of knowing that I made the most terrible choice to be drunk on the first night of going to a club Everything went wrong from there."I don't see how I can help you." I whispered, still looking at Fabian's picture."We just want to know your experience with him. What exa
MeredithI thought we were going far. I was expected to be blindfolded and taken to another unknown location. The way he hauled me into the car made everything suspicious. There was a little redness in my arms as I snapped out of his grip. This time, I had a clear picture of him; he was indeed a man to swoon over. The way Kayla talked about him,he felt like a god all over Italy. I never understood it until now."I didn't do anything. I quietly said It was a lie, and even I found it difficult to believe. The question was if he believed me. He couldn't just come here if something wasn't wrong; something must have happened that he had to drive here to embarrass me."Do you believe that? He narrowed his eyes at me."Yes, of course. He laughed. His laughter was like music to my ears, but it indeed had a mocking tone to it. "If you brought me here to lock me up, you should just say it.""Mock you, amore? Nah. I came here to get something out of you.""What's that?" "The truth." His lips tw
Meredith"I will believe you just this once. He said this, still staring into my eyes. "If I find out that you are lying to me in any way, It won't be funny anymore; you will be seeing me more often than you realise. Even in your dreams.""Huh? My dreams?" "Yeah, you have no idea the things I can do to you that are going to mess up your mind really badly." He gave me a flirtatious look, holding my gaze as I swallowed. His watercolour eyes traced the lines of my body with a smirk on his face."Do I even want to know?""If you want to, I can show you right now. He drew me close to himself; even with the cool atmosphere in the car, I was still feeling the heat between both of us. I tried to leave his grasps, but I only ended up getting closer, where I could feel his breath close to mine. What have I gotten myself into? I asked myself over and over again as I avoided his gaze. He raised my chin. "What do you say, love?" Should I show you the things I could do with this body of yours?"I
