I cleaned up my desk and walked out of the station's headquarters. My mind went blank. My Grandma kept repeating that we could both live fine from the magic shop's income, but the truth was that the money the shop was giving was hardly enough for Grandma alone… Furthermore, there were months when I used my salary to buy products for the shop to keep the sales going. It was obvious that I would have to look for another job.
The weather outside was gloomy… just like my mood. I stopped crying, but I was miles away from smiling either. At least I could tell those people the truth, and I was going to tell myself that it was worth it, even if I had to starve for some time until I would find another way to make an income.
I sat on the bench at the bus stop and looked at the grey, cloud-covered sky. Suddenly, I saw a rainbow, out of nowhere. It was strange since the air wasn't humid, and it wasn't raining earlier either. The sun wasn't shining, which made this bow of rainbow look additionally peculiar…
"How odd…" I mumbled as I waited for the bus to arrive.
"What is odd?" an old lady sitting next to me asked.
"The rainbow…" I pointed at the sky in front of us.
"What rainbow?" The lady put on her glasses and looked ahead.
"The one right above the street," I stated, drawing the bow with my hand.
"There is nothing there!" she claimed, glaring at me.
I gazed at her, confused, and smiled awkwardly. A minute later, a bus came to the stop, and she got on and drove away. I started to wonder if I was exhausted enough to see things that didn't exist. I closed my eyes and opened them again a few times, but I kept seeing the rainbow, vividly glowing right in front of me…
My bus finally arrived, and I got home. I walked inside, and went to the kitchen to get myself a glass of coffee. Surprisingly, I saw Grandma sitting at the kitchen table staring at some thick, A4-sized envelope.
"Granny, you're not at the shop? Did something happen? And… what's with the envelope?" I asked.
"You tell me…" she smirked.
I took the package from the table and opened it. There was money in it… A lot of money, to be exact! I started taking the money out, there were all these $100 bills looking like they were taken straight from the bank.
"Wow! Where did you get this money?!" I shouted, absolutely stunned.
"Apparently… You earned it," Grandma chuckled.
"According to who?!" I still couldn't comprehend what was going on.
"A nice gentleman in glasses brought it, saying it's the rest of the payment for the pain-relieving herbs," she grinned wickedly, adding, "He also said he'd like to buy more, and he'll come tomorrow."
My jaw dropped. I never imagined that this person would actually come back… with a large amount of cash at that!
"It turns out my Kassi is a very powerful witch!" Grandma burst out laughing.
I still couldn't believe it. I roughly counted the money… there was a hundred thousand dollars. What kind of person buys herbs for that kind of money?! Even if there were magic ones!
"Kassi, we have to celebrate this!" Grandma shouted joyfully.
"Yeah… Maybe the rainbow I saw was some kind of lucky sign… Guess, this will sweeten the fact that I've just lost my job," I smiled bitterly.
"What do you mean, you saw a rainbow?" Grandma popped out.
I stared at her, confused. A normal person would rather want to know what happened at my workplace… but I shouldn't expect any normal, or logical reaction from my dear Grandma. Apparently, the sky phenomenon was much more important than me losing my job. I sighed, and decided to answer her question.
"I saw a rainbow, without sun or rain… and I might have been the only one who saw it," I explained.
Grandma stooped up, grinned, and grabbed both of my shoulders.
"That could be your change of luck! Good things are meant to happen around you," she stated.
I truly wanted to believe her… Now, the one amazingly fortunate fact was that I had a lot of time to search for a new job without worrying about the money! I couldn't believe how lucky I had become!
I kept staring at the bills while Grandma already brought a bottle of homemade liquor from the basement and poured a glass for me and for herself.
"I'd like to make a toast to my precious Granddaughter Kassi, who apparently will become just as powerful as her mother Sara," she smiled proudly, her eyes filled with tears.
"To the new luckier chapter in our lives, Granny. Mom certainly helped in bringing that luck on us," I stated, shedding a tear.
Then we both drank in one gulp the herbal liquor that Grandma brought. It was strong… and disgusting.
"G… granny!" I coughed, "You are supposed to heal people… not try to kill them!"
"What are you talking about…? There is nothing wrong with that alcohol," she claimed, confidently pouring herself another glass.
I sighed. "There is something seriously wrong with your taste buds."
I wanted to discuss with Grandma what we should do with the money, but suddenly, my phone rang. The number looked like one of the ones from my workplace.
"Hello…?" I answered it.
"This… this is Eric Valentino speaking…" the general manager seemed nervous.
"Hello, Mr. Valentino…" I greeted him hesitantly.
"Um… we hid the fact from you… that… um… all the interviews were at the same time being watched by our CEO, Mr. Borda…" he explained, restlessly.
Initially, I thought I was going to be fired over the phone, but now, I was getting more and more confused about the reason he was calling me…
"O-ok…" I replied awkwardly.
"Well… Mr. Borda would like to offer you a job… as his secretary," he choked out.
"Mr. Valentino… I wouldn't want to be rude… but I'm not fit to be an office worker…" I laughed faintly, hoping to find a good reason to refuse.
"Please… "Do not put me in a difficult position here, Ms. Eder," he pleaded, "come to his office tomorrow at 9 AM and discuss it with Mr. Borda yourself."
Mr. Valentino ended the call before I could add anything else. The conversation was odd. He sounded like he was shaking in fear. Fortunately, I had all the means to refuse the job I didn't want. I shrugged my shoulders, and decided to go to the station the next day at the appointed hour just to explain that I was not going to work there. Nonetheless, this one phone call gave me confidence and put me in a better mood… a mood good enough to drink another glass of Grandma's liquor.
I went to bed early, hoping to recover from my enormous lack of sleep. My pillow basically kept sending my love letters from the moment I came back home. I finally lied down and closed my eyes…
Suddenly, I felt someone's arms around my body. It didn't feel strange. It was a familiar feeling. The man's arms were hugging me tight from behind. I smiled blissfully, and slowly turned around. The man lying next to me gave me a delicate peck on the lips. I reached out my hand and brushed his black hair from his face. He smiled seductively, gazing at me with his bright blue eyes.
"Samil…" I muttered drowsily.
"I love you, Kassi…" he whispered.
I opened my eyes wide. My heart pounded insanely fast, my whole skin became uncommonly sensitive, I had goosebumps on my entire body. I looked at both sides of my bed, I was alone in my room. I looked at the clock, it was 7 AM. It was morning already. There was no man by my side. The male scent that was so vivid just before I opened my eyes, disappeared as well...
"I dreamt again…" I sighed, but then realized something, "I saw his… face… I saw his face! I saw his face!!!" I started screaming out of joy.
I rushed down to the kitchen. My Grandma, an early bird, was already making coffee, and preparing new herbs to sell at the shop.
“Grandma! I saw him! He was gorgeous… he's face… he looked incredible… and he said he loves me! Oh my God! He said he loves me!!!” I kept screaming erratically.
"Kassi… honey… calm down!" Grandma called and grabbed my arm to prevent me from running around, "One more time. What did you saw?"
"I dreamt again, but this time I saw this man's face… and I even knew his name! His name is Samil!" I screamed, giggling.
"Samil…?" Grandma smirked, "What a poor child… What kind of parents give their child the name of a hell demon?!" she chuckled evilly.
"It doesn't matter Granny! He was sooo handsome! I would gladly sell him my soul if he wanted to," I stated, confidently.
I was so happy that I completely ignored that I still didn't have the slightest idea who he was. It didn't matter at that moment. I felt like thanks to the lucky sign I saw, everything was getting better… I only hoped that the CEO would be understandable as well, so I could end things quickly, and start looking for another, creative job that I would enjoy.
I ate my breakfast in a hurry, and rushed to the office for my appointment with the new CEO, Mr. Borda… Come to think of it, I didn't even know his first name. Well, I had other things on my mind recently. Getting interested in a new CEO wasn't something that I would put on my to-do list… Even though, if he were as handsome as everyone said, he could become a good base for the new drama character… Unfortunately, I had to finish fantasizing and focus on the speech I was about to perform to explain my rejection.
I went on the highest floor. I had never been in that part of the building. This floor seemed to be on a completely different level… no matter how odd it sounds. Its design resembled a futuristic space ship, but surprisingly, it all matched with some wooden elements that made the whole place look astonishingly elegant… and hyper expensive. I walked until the end of the hallway with my mouth wide opened. Before actually going into the CEO's office, I entered the place where his secretaries worked.
There were already two of them. Both of them were slender and beautiful. They looked competent and professional. That was another reason why I had a hard time understanding why a handsome CEO would like to hire someone like me to work with those women?! I looked nothing like them! I had never worn fancy, designer clothes or used expensive cosmetics to do flashy make-up!
After I introduced myself, one of them called the CEO, and told me I should wait. They kept glaring at me, like they were accusing me of trying to take the place of one of them. I felt more and more uncomfortable sitting there… Suddenly, the phone rang on one of the secretaries' desks. The woman answered.
"You may come in now," she informed me, pretending to smile.
"Thank you," I used the same smile replying, and walked inside the CEO's office.
A handsome, black-haired man was sitting behind the desk. I walked closer.
"Have a seat, Ms. Eder," he proposed, raising his head.
That voice, that hair, those shining blue eyes… they all belonged to the same person. I couldn't believe it.
"Oh my God… I dreamt about you…" I muttered and asked panicking in my mind, "Did I just say it out… loud?!"
Samil had never left my side on our way home, whether it was while we were on the ship or flying in the Bordas private jet. He kept asking me if I was ok. He did it so often that I started to find his concern over my health annoying. He wasn't the one that had been bothersome during our trip. Chris, Elijah and all the other men from Samil's army were coming one by one to apologize for trying to burn me at the stake. Although, I kept repeating that it wasn't their fault since they were controlled by magic, but recalling everything they had done while being compelled wasn't exactly helpful in recovery from their moral hangover… Despite the fact that I knew that it was all over and that I and everyone was safe, those horrifying moments were coming back each time I closed my eyes. Once I tried to get some sleep, I woke up screaming, but then Samil would hold me in his arms and tell me that there was nothing that could ever threaten us anymore. The warmth of his body was soothing
Suddenly, I heard nothing but crackling fire from the light of the torch. I hesitantly opened my eyes. Samil threw his torch at the bottom of the pile, yet it barely touched the wooden branches. The pile didn't start to burn. All it caused was a bit of smoke that was coming from one side of the pile. My heart was pounding frantically while my tears kept falling down my cheeks."Samil…" I mumbled, looking into his eyes.He raised his head and gazed at me. His expression was slightly different from before. It wasn't as blank as if his consciousness started to resurface again…"I love you…" I called softly, praying that it would be different this time, that my calling would finally reach him.He stared at me in silence, then slowly turned his head to look around. At that moment, he stopped resembling a mere puppet. It was like one of his strings had been cut. I could see him clenching his teeth. I gasped, desperately hoping that his reac
Ezzura had cast a spell that filled the entire island, including the irresilient to her magic Samil. She compelled everyone. Now, they were all her own army that obeyed her unconditionally…I guessed, she clearly wanted to torture my heart before she would burn my body, doing everything she could to break me. She picked a beach as a place where I should be burned at the stake, and she told Samil to take me there. I didn't have any strength left to resist. He tossed me over one shoulder like a bag of sand, and then he carried me out of the witches' castle. I tried calling his name, but he didn't react at all, as if he had become an empty shell that once had been someone who loved me…"I have to admit that your magic is extraordinary," Ezzura chuckled while walking to the beach. "Can you see how easily I had changed everyone into my puppets? Your magic in this life is even stronger than the one you had as Immara."She kept glancing cheerfully, admiri
For a few seconds, I was unable to open my eyes. I heard a continuous, high-pitched sound in my ears. It covered all the other sounds I could hear, and disturbed my focus. Finally, I forced my eyelids to open. My vision was slowly coming back… I was lying on the floor in the middle of the witches' courtroom, trying to comprehend what had just happened. I nervously lifted my upped body to sit and look around. When I did, I gulped. All the witches from the group of the eldest were dead. Their bodies were lying motionless on the ground. Some were covered in blood, some looked like they were electrocuted. It was a massacre, and I was sitting in the middle of it… Suddenly, I saw Ezzura nonchalantly walking around the hall, gloating over the victory. I flinched, then I clenched my teeth. My previous visions, Immara's memories, the feeling of betrayal, they all came back and filled every inch of my body. I instantly raised my hands in order to attack her, but… nothi
"W-what?" I murmured nervously, gazing at Sister. She avoided my stare. She must have known from the beginning that I was the incarnation of her younger sister, the one she told me about. Now, the fact that she claimed that she didn't remember her name and told me to call her "Sister" made me grit my teeth. Why couldn't she tell me?! Even if she wasn't certain if I remember my past life, couldn't she tell me that I look exactly like her late sister?! I felt confused and betrayed, and the most disturbing fact was that I had never recalled having an older sister in the memories of my past life…"Oh… I can see that she didn't tell you, did she?" Shelta chuckled coldly. "She had been told to gain your trust and kill you, but once she had learnt that you were sisters, she disobeyed the orders. She even decided to trick us to save your life, but you had to die even after you had lost your powers…"My head started to spin. I glanced at Sister. I co
There was a road outside the forest. It led straight to the witches' castle. It looked like a fortress. It had high stone walls around it, and an enormous iron gate at the front. Samil walked at the front. Sister and I were right behind him, and the rest of the soldiers marched in formation, moving towards the gate while constantly fighting off the witches. Finally, we forced the witches to run back to their castle. They ran to the gates, banging on them and desperately crying to those in charge to open the entrance. Yet Mahala and the rest of the witches in charge were deaf to their pleading voices. They would rather let them die at those gates than open them. I gave Sister a signal, nodding my head, and we hit those witches with our magic, making them fall into a coma."Chris, get the explosive to blast those gates," Samil ordered."Understood," Chris replied, then abruptly turned around to get the bombs ready."Wait!" I called out, "There's no need for that.
