LOGINLIA'S POV
"Here, this should be everything you need. I'll take turns checking the baby. The rent already expired, so, if you need anything, anything at all, remember, you have a home with us." Grace said to me, as she helped me pack my bags. It was finally discharge day, Mr. Judas-Caine had been visiting from time to time, but most times, he'd just sit at the waiting area for forty minutes and then leave without saying a word to me. He seemed like such an odd guy. "Hey, are you alright?" Grace asked, when she noticed i was staring too hard into space. I shook my head and nodded. "Yeah, i was just thinking about ---" A knock on the door cut me short. Grace opened the door and a young woman, average height, light skinned, porcelain almost, asian looking, and very beautiful, walked into the room. She was dressed in a classic pair of blue jeans, with a striped lurex sweater, and double breasted cream blazer. She looked gorgeous. "Hi, my name is Amika and i am Mr. Judas-Caine's assistant. He informed me you would be getting discharged today and asked me to take charge of you today." She smiled at me. Suddenly, i felt extremely intimidated. I looked from her to Grace and caught her eyes - we were obviously thinking the same thing. A guy like Mr. Brex was definitely surrounded by the most pretty women. I held the length of my wig in place, hoping to keep the secret about my alopecia but worrying how on earth i would manage to do that at a beauty spa. Amika's half moon earrings glimmered with diamonds and i shuddered - was i certain i was walking into the right kind of job? I was certainly not going to fit in. "You seem shocked ---" Amika muttered, when the room got too quiet, and then Grace and I broke into awkward laughs simultaneously. "No" "What?" "Girl, bye. I mean, she'll be right out." Grace said and i nodded back at her. "Alright, see you in a bit. If there is anything you need help with, let me know, I'll be right outside." She smiled again and left. As soon as she left, i let out a sigh of relief, while Grace did a silent scream. "Oh my god, girl! She screams of money!" Grace exclaimed, but i was busy clutching my chest nervously now. "Hey, hey, are you alright? Are you good?" Grace asked, holding my hand. "I can't do this, Grace. I can't -- I'm not perfect for this. Look at me, i have alopecia, my skin is dull, did you see her hair? I lack poise and elegance. I can't. I have to find some other way to pay Mr. Brex for all his help." "Girl, Lia, you're rambling. Relax, and breathe. Shhh, i don't--- i do not think that Mr. Brex would like to hear that at this point. Lia, i know these people. Manhattan is a man eat man kind of world, okay?" I looked up at her, wondering how exactly that was supposed to help me. "What if i fumble? What if i make the press talk and the talks are not exactly beneficial to him or his company? What if he finds out i have alopecia and looks at me as a monster who tricked him! What if ---" "Slow down! Lia! I mean, what the fuck is wrong with you? Think like a fucking gold digger here! Bad bitches don't do second guesses, they grab opportunities that present themselves. I'm not saying i agree with this, but -- we are already here at this point, you can't back down now." "Besides, the man is not looking for a girl to hook up with, and according to what you told me, he just wants you to be the terrible girlfriend. So, girl, at this point, i want you to be terrible, take advantage of the opportunity, eat, be lazy, shop until his credit card maxes and then nag him about every single thing on earth -- and get paid!!." "And listen, anytime you feel like this isn't working out for you, call me, and i will come get you." She said and i tilted my head sideways to look at her. "What?" "I feel this isn't working for me now, Grace." I replied. "I understand, but you haven't even tried it yet. Do it for your son, remember, he neesds you. Besides, we do not want manhattan business men and crime lords chasing after us, that would be more difficult to handle. Come on, play pretend for a couple of months?" She grinned. I sighed, believing i had already tried that once. However, i nodded, trying hard to shove the nervous feeling fown my guts. I saw my baby one last time, and left him in Grace's and Doctor Rosella's care. They were the sweetest and i was grateful they understood that i was doing this because of the baby and not because i was a shameless mother looking for gold. Amika and i made a detour at the La Frances beauty parlor where she intended to give me a make over and i panicked. As soon as we got in, the air in the parlour reeked of pettiness and judgement. "Hey, look at that." One of the women working in the salon muttered to her friend. "I don't think that hair has seen a salon in years." The other one laughed. "The boss is going to freaaak." "Amika, you know we don't work miracles here and honestly, she looks like a bit of work to me." I heard the hairdresser say to Amika, while giving me side eyes. I became nervous, such a person would hate it when i said i had alopecia. After Amika was done speaking to the hairdresser, i was seated in a chair in front of a mirror, i hesitated. "Is something wrong, miss Lia?" Amika asked, when the already exasperated hairdresser called her attention. "I can't do this, i do not need this stress." I heard the hairdresser murmur to her staff. "No, it's just--- can i trust you?" I asked her. Amika looked uncertain and i was afraid i was about to let my insecurity go with a total stranger who might judge me every step of the way after this. "I have alopecia, but Mr. Brex is not aware." I mumbled. Amika looked at me uncomfortably.LIA'S POV"Wowww! She looks amazing!" Two young ladies squealed beside me, taking a photo of the young woman who had just walked in."I can't believe she is actually here!!" The other one squealed in response to her friend's squealing. It was as if I was frozen in time. Everything about the woman called to me and the hairs on my skin stood. She was beautiful, in a very surreal kind of way. From her luscious cherry bomb lip gloss that matched her hair, to her piercing green eyes and her red dress accentuated her curves in the boldest of ways.Suddenly, I felt like a maid in the clothes I was wearing, but why her looks bothered me was what I did not really know. I barely knew her, and she probably had nothing to do with me.But I couldn't help but worry that she was going to be a problem for me to an extent. I tried to shake off the feeling and moved towards the buffet table at the other end of the hall, and then I heard some girls gossiping. "Did you see her?" One of them asked as I l
LIA'S POVThe cameras flashed at us from all directions."Look over here!""Mr. Brex! Smile for the camera!" I never knew it was mandatory for personalities to take pictures at an event, but the attention was giving me a blurry vision.Wow, i gasped, at the numerous number of wealthy people that existed in just the upper East side alone. A sad, dreadful weight settled in my belly, and i felt myself shrink."The first rule of surviving elite company, look confident and don't try to suck up to anyone, or else you will be mistaken as the help." Judas-Caine whispered into my ear as soon as we entered the ball room.Wow, had I been doing it wrong my whole life? In the past, I had practically tried my best to be liked by Elian's parents. The Dunst had faked their affections for me until they couldn't do it anymore - and of course, I had been mistaken for the help, because I was the help.In this setting, I could not see myself any better. Had I not always been the help?Judas-Caine's hand
JUDAS-CAINE'S POVI stared from the top floor's window down at the vast and endless array of trees in the distance. The pool sat neat and covered at the back of the mansion. It had been long i had any use for it.A cigar in hand, i puffed a cloud of smoke which shaded the glass before disappearing.I savoured the taste, the liquid feeling it gave me. I felt my nerves relax and my senses quieten."Should i turn the car around?" Antonio asked from behind me.I tapped the glass with my forefinger, one...two... as if testing its durability, but really just buying myself enough time to be prepared."In ten minutes," i said and he left.I walked to my bedroom, picked up my jacket, doused out the cigarette and threw on my favorite scent. And a bubble gum found its way into my mouth. "I am not an addict", i recited quietly.Lia's room was on the other end of the vast top floor and so, i went towards it.As soon as she opened the door, my eyes became glassy, heat rose up my groin in a very dan
LIA'S POV"This dress looks beautiful on you!" Carly exclaimed as i stared at myself in the mirror for the one hundredth time.As anticipated, i moved into Mr. Brex's house as he had suggested, and Carly had come to help me settle in, and also to prepare for the Majors Ball. The dress i wore was a gold Oscar De La Renta feather embellished maxi-dress.It fit so perfectly, highlighting my curves in all the right places. My now thick thighs were boldly exposed through the slit that ran down my left leg."It feels surreal." I said. Tonight was the Majors ball, the night Judas-Caine intended on breaking our relationship to the outside world. There was no telling it would go unopposed, or we would not become a general laughing stock."Are you sure tonight would go well?" I asked Carly again."I mean, i really have an issue facing a room full of elites." "Oh not at all, I'm pretty sure it might not but hey, that's not the problem. The case here is that tonight is not about you, it is about
LIA'S POV "Nag my son, make he fall in love with you. Teach him that love can change everything.""What?"At first i thought, this is crazy. She was asking me not to leave, but to stay and make a total stranger fall in love with me.And then what?"I'm sorry, mrs Athena, but I'm not sure i can do that. I don't even know Mr. Brex like that, and...""You accepted to fake date him to fool me. I'm not going to blackmail you, even though it is a move very well within my cards.""However, I'm imploring you to. He is a good man after all, he just needs a little patience, and a strong willed person."She looked at me as if i embodied literally everything she had just described. But how could i tell her i did not? I may have been stubborn and a little ambitious but i was definitely not strong.Had i been so strong willed and intelligent, my parents would not have died, and little Reign would not have come into this world unprepared. "I'm sorry, Mrs Athena, but i am not the perfect person y
JUDAS-CAINE'S POV "Boss, the publicist from Fenn Rogers is here, she would like to speak to you privately." Antonio whispered into my ear.I let out a deep sigh, i had been looking for the right kind of publicity to give our company for the last week ."Let's go." I replied and got up.The mansion grounds were vast and covered at least a hundred acres of land.We also had a golf course at the back of the house, and that was where i met with the publicist. She was already seated under the pergola, having a glass of juice."Hi, Mr. Brex, my name is Lucy Harley." She said. We shook hands. She was young, beautiful and obviously had her career ahead of her."I hear you're the best there is in House of Fenn." I said after we were both seated."You heard correct, Mr. Brex, i cover publicity for hundreds of businesses in Manhattan, small and big." She replied"Hundreds, i never knew there were that large number of businesses running in Manhattan under one person." I replied, almost wanting t
