ログインLIA'S POV
"The Bon Aires VIP Charter flight carrying twenty Long Island business elites, including six politicians and a former US Air Marshall has crashed." Life had thrown dust in my face for the one hundredth time and this time, it had taken everything from me. "It is with a broken heart that we commit the souls of these two loving people to the heavens. May their souls rest in perfect peace." The hot summer sun burnt onto my skin as tears rolled down my face. My parents were gone. The news of the crash had sent my mother into immediate shock and that was it. I stared with stranger's eyes at the whole procession, nothing seemed to make sense to me, not even the people who showed up to the funeral. I could barely recognise anyone, other than the reverend and the nurse who had been my mother's friend. But what hurt me most was the Dunst family, and this time, I was furious. A couple of days after the funeral, no word had come from them, not even a single condolence message. My mother had served them for seven years, I was Elian's supposed best friend - scratch that - my father died protecting a flight they sent him on. Yet, they could not even show up to the funeral?? As I approached the front door of their luxurious mansion, I rehearsed everything I planned on saying. But the minute I knocked on the door and Mrs Lauretta Dunst opened it, I lost my speech -- they were having a party! "Lia! Lia, right? How are you?" Lauretta asked, with a smile on her face. I looked around, just noticing the extra number of cars parked in their garage. "How am i? My parents are dead! None of you even bothered to show up to the funeral. My mother ---" my voice broke. I struggled to keep my composure in front of her. I had sworn that I would not give them the satisfaction of seeing me break -- but how could i not? Everything i loved and had was gone. "About that, i am so sorry for your loss, Lia. What happened was really unforunate." Mrs Dunst said, barely showing remorse, as she smiled at one guest and waved at another. I scoffed in disbelief -- my mother was right. They were really monsters who smiled at us but never gave a shit about us. "UNFORTUNATE??" I repeated emphatically. Mrs Dunst looked around uneasily and then rolled her eyes at me. "Look, right now is not a good time. Elian is having his engagement and send off party, and he is getting married in a few days." "Take this..." she took out her purse and selected a few hundred dollar notes. "Get something for yourself, and leave Elian alone. I don't want him bothered by things like this. Not while he has his whole life ahead of him." "Do not call or contact us again." She said nonchalantly and moved to shut the door, just as Elian was passing by. He caught sight of me, and rushed to the door. "Lia! Hey, we missed you at the graduation ceremony." he said, staring at my washed down, malnourished frame. His mother merely hissed and walked away. I squeezed the money in my hand angrily, hot tears falling from my eyes. "Lia, what happened?" He asked again, coming towards me. And that was all it took for my feet to move. I turned around and walked away from there, dumping the money on the steps before leaving. "Lia!" Elian called after me, but I was running now and he didn't stop me. My pain knew no bounds and the days that followed were tormenting for me. But eventually, I gathered up my strength and decided to sell everything. All my parents things, including some of my father's medals. When i was sure I had enough money, I packed up and moved to New York, Manhattan. It was only after I had left, that Elian managed to show up looking for me, the reverend told me. He called severally but I didn't answer, and before I left, I blocked his number and got a new phone. *** Nine months later, now in manhattan, I had still been unable to get rid of the pregnancy due to financial struggles and the later risks involved. I had, however, put on enough weight to cover for my lack of proper feeding, and anyone would have thought I was feeding just fine. It was winter already, everyone was in the christmas spirit. A tradition that now irritated me to no end, but at the same time, I felt grateful for. I stood at the side of the road on my way to the smoothie stand, to get probably my last cup of avocado and apple smoothie mix. It was a busy day and traffic was high. The road finally cleared, but as I was about to cross, all I heard was the sound of the speeding car swerving right next to me and I froze. One hand on my stomach and the other on my waist, head bowed low and eyes shut, I was certain I had died. Just then, the car door opened, and someone stepped down. He was handsome, dressed in a neatly ironed, clean cut suit, two bodyguards beside him. Suddenly, i began heaving heavily. I was panicking, all Hell was about to break loose. "Miss, are you alright?" A masculine, deep, silky, baritone voice asked. "Am I alright?! Are you crazy? can't you read signs??" i mouthed off before he even got to me. "Just because you own a car doesn't mean you forget traffic rules!" I yelled angrily for the life of my baby. Pregnancy had certainly given me its perks of courage. His bodyguard moved threateningly towards me, but the man raised his hand, stopping him, and that was when it happened. Plop! Silence ensued and all that was heard was my angry, heavy breathing. The air sizzled with caution and my labored breathing increased. The man took one step forward, almost cautiously. "Miss, are you okay?" Furious, I reached up and grabbed his shirt threateningly, eyes squeezed shut in anticipation of the coming pain. "YOU UNEVEN, SON OF THE DEVIL, MOTHER FUCKER! MY WATER JUST BROKE!" I yelled out angrily and then the pain kicked in.LIA'S POV"Wowww! She looks amazing!" Two young ladies squealed beside me, taking a photo of the young woman who had just walked in."I can't believe she is actually here!!" The other one squealed in response to her friend's squealing. It was as if I was frozen in time. Everything about the woman called to me and the hairs on my skin stood. She was beautiful, in a very surreal kind of way. From her luscious cherry bomb lip gloss that matched her hair, to her piercing green eyes and her red dress accentuated her curves in the boldest of ways.Suddenly, I felt like a maid in the clothes I was wearing, but why her looks bothered me was what I did not really know. I barely knew her, and she probably had nothing to do with me.But I couldn't help but worry that she was going to be a problem for me to an extent. I tried to shake off the feeling and moved towards the buffet table at the other end of the hall, and then I heard some girls gossiping. "Did you see her?" One of them asked as I l
LIA'S POVThe cameras flashed at us from all directions."Look over here!""Mr. Brex! Smile for the camera!" I never knew it was mandatory for personalities to take pictures at an event, but the attention was giving me a blurry vision.Wow, i gasped, at the numerous number of wealthy people that existed in just the upper East side alone. A sad, dreadful weight settled in my belly, and i felt myself shrink."The first rule of surviving elite company, look confident and don't try to suck up to anyone, or else you will be mistaken as the help." Judas-Caine whispered into my ear as soon as we entered the ball room.Wow, had I been doing it wrong my whole life? In the past, I had practically tried my best to be liked by Elian's parents. The Dunst had faked their affections for me until they couldn't do it anymore - and of course, I had been mistaken for the help, because I was the help.In this setting, I could not see myself any better. Had I not always been the help?Judas-Caine's hand
JUDAS-CAINE'S POVI stared from the top floor's window down at the vast and endless array of trees in the distance. The pool sat neat and covered at the back of the mansion. It had been long i had any use for it.A cigar in hand, i puffed a cloud of smoke which shaded the glass before disappearing.I savoured the taste, the liquid feeling it gave me. I felt my nerves relax and my senses quieten."Should i turn the car around?" Antonio asked from behind me.I tapped the glass with my forefinger, one...two... as if testing its durability, but really just buying myself enough time to be prepared."In ten minutes," i said and he left.I walked to my bedroom, picked up my jacket, doused out the cigarette and threw on my favorite scent. And a bubble gum found its way into my mouth. "I am not an addict", i recited quietly.Lia's room was on the other end of the vast top floor and so, i went towards it.As soon as she opened the door, my eyes became glassy, heat rose up my groin in a very dan
LIA'S POV"This dress looks beautiful on you!" Carly exclaimed as i stared at myself in the mirror for the one hundredth time.As anticipated, i moved into Mr. Brex's house as he had suggested, and Carly had come to help me settle in, and also to prepare for the Majors Ball. The dress i wore was a gold Oscar De La Renta feather embellished maxi-dress.It fit so perfectly, highlighting my curves in all the right places. My now thick thighs were boldly exposed through the slit that ran down my left leg."It feels surreal." I said. Tonight was the Majors ball, the night Judas-Caine intended on breaking our relationship to the outside world. There was no telling it would go unopposed, or we would not become a general laughing stock."Are you sure tonight would go well?" I asked Carly again."I mean, i really have an issue facing a room full of elites." "Oh not at all, I'm pretty sure it might not but hey, that's not the problem. The case here is that tonight is not about you, it is about
LIA'S POV "Nag my son, make he fall in love with you. Teach him that love can change everything.""What?"At first i thought, this is crazy. She was asking me not to leave, but to stay and make a total stranger fall in love with me.And then what?"I'm sorry, mrs Athena, but I'm not sure i can do that. I don't even know Mr. Brex like that, and...""You accepted to fake date him to fool me. I'm not going to blackmail you, even though it is a move very well within my cards.""However, I'm imploring you to. He is a good man after all, he just needs a little patience, and a strong willed person."She looked at me as if i embodied literally everything she had just described. But how could i tell her i did not? I may have been stubborn and a little ambitious but i was definitely not strong.Had i been so strong willed and intelligent, my parents would not have died, and little Reign would not have come into this world unprepared. "I'm sorry, Mrs Athena, but i am not the perfect person y
JUDAS-CAINE'S POV "Boss, the publicist from Fenn Rogers is here, she would like to speak to you privately." Antonio whispered into my ear.I let out a deep sigh, i had been looking for the right kind of publicity to give our company for the last week ."Let's go." I replied and got up.The mansion grounds were vast and covered at least a hundred acres of land.We also had a golf course at the back of the house, and that was where i met with the publicist. She was already seated under the pergola, having a glass of juice."Hi, Mr. Brex, my name is Lucy Harley." She said. We shook hands. She was young, beautiful and obviously had her career ahead of her."I hear you're the best there is in House of Fenn." I said after we were both seated."You heard correct, Mr. Brex, i cover publicity for hundreds of businesses in Manhattan, small and big." She replied"Hundreds, i never knew there were that large number of businesses running in Manhattan under one person." I replied, almost wanting t
