Gunfire.

The sound cracked through the air; sharp, wrong and final.

My body moved before my mind caught up.

I turned, my arm snapping around Natalie, dragging her down with me. I hit the ground hard, pulling her to my chest, shielding her as my eyes swept the room in a single precise motion.

“Stay down," I muttered, voice low.

People were screaming now, chair's scraping, glasses shattering. Chaos unfolding in every direction.

❈─────≪ °❀° ≫─────❈ Natalie ❈─────≪ °❀° ≫─────❈Darkness didn't leave all at once, it thinned, slowly. Like something pulling away in layers, revealing fragments of awareness I wasn't ready for.The first thing I noticed wasn't the pain…It was the silence. Like every sound in the room had been filtered, then came the faint sound of a steady beeping, muted and distant like I was underwater. Then came the weight, my body felt… wrong, heavy, too heavy. Like I was pinned down by something invisible.I tried to move, pain answered; not sharp, not sudden, just… there, deep and anchored. My breath hitched slightly as a dull pressure tightened around my neck.Something was wrong. My eyes opened slowly, the ceiling above me wasn't white. It wasn't a hospital bright or harsh or sterile. It was smooth, dim and softly lit.And familiar too.I blinked, trying to focus, my gaze shifting across the room; the walls, furniture, quiet luxury. The recognition came slowly… but it came.

It was the kind of silence that came after chaos; heavy, restless, unfinished. My phone buzzed again. And again. And again.I didn't touch it at first. I already knew what I'd see, but eventually, I picked it up.Headlines flooded the screen.*Leonardo's secret lover shot**Fake relationship turns deadly?**Sources claim girlfriend was a cover-up**Was the shooting planned*My jaw tightened.Planned? They were getting bold… and reckless. And worse… people were starting to believe it.I locked the phone and dropped it on the table as the door swung open.“Brought someone…” Lex said as he stepped in.My cousin sister followed behind him before I could respond.“Hey," she greeted, her tone lighter than the situation allowed.I stood up walking towards her, "Palmira, it's been a while,” I said.“It has," she said, closing the d

Something in my chest tightened as I looked down. Blood. Too much of it. It spread fast, dark against the floor, seeping through my fingers as I pressed my hand to her neck. For a second, everything slowed… she had been shot and she was smiling. A faint, broken smile; but it was there. She was trying to comfort me and that broke something inside me. “Don't," I said sharply, tightened my grip, forcing pressure ag

❈─────≪ °❀° ≫─────❈ Natalie ❈─────≪ °❀° ≫─────❈We moved forward, his hand resting behind me.To everyone watching, it looked natural. Intimate, even. That was the goal.I stayed beside him, aware of every step, every glance, every whisper that followed us. I wasn't just Natalie anymore; I was ‘his’. Someone being assessed, measured, judged. We reached our table and sat. I adjusted in my seat, forcing my shoulders to relax even though my body refused to cooperate. My fingers curled tightly against each other beneath the table, trying to steady the nervous tremor running through me.The room was overwhelming. Not because of its size; but because of the people in it.Power. Wealth. Influence; All sat in this room. The kind of people who didn't just live in the world; they shaped it.And somehow, I was sitting among them.My gaze drifted across the room, scanning unfamiliar faces until it landed on something… familiar.Her.The woman from yesterday. She was seated across t

❈─────≪ °❀° ≫─────❈ Natalie ❈─────≪ °❀° ≫─────❈I didn't need an alarm to wake up. Today was D-Day. The day everything would be tested. The day the lie would become real.I lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling, letting the weight of it settle in my chest. Three months. And it started… today.I pushed myself out of the bed and headed for the bathroom, the cold tiles grounding me more than anything else. I stepped into the showing, mind already racing,What if I messed this up?What if I said the wrong thing? What if…I shut my eyes, letting the water run over me.No. There was no ‘what if.’I didn't have a choice anymore. The dress was waiting for me when I stepped out of the shower.Black. Bardot. Long-sleeved. A flare mini dress that looked simple until you really saw it. Sleek. Deliberate. It wasn't just a dress; it was a statement, carefully chosen to say something before I even spoke.Leonardo had made sure of that. Everything I needed had been prepared

I slipped the agreement into a folder and locked it away in my drawer. I turned headed for the bathroom. “Leo, is everything okay?" Linda asked, sliding off the bed. "We're done here,” I replied as I turned to the bathroom. "Just like that?” She scoffed. "We didn't even last an hour.” Her hands found my chest, her lips brushing against my skin, but I caught her wrist and pulled her away. “I've got business, Linda. Another time." She huffed in annoyance. I stepped away from her and walked straight into the bathroom, stripping off my boxers and tossing them into the hamper without a second glance. The shower came on, hot water pouring over me, washing away sweat, salt and everything else I didn't care to remember. Quiet. That was how I preferred it. Then I felt it; hand
