Chapter 3

Author: Cutie Kitty
“Never judge a book by its cover. Having a coworker like her is seriously the biggest stain on my life.”

I ignored everyone’s mocking comments and simply smiled as I escorted Elijah and his group out. After everything I went through in my previous life, words like these meant nothing to me anymore.

After that, I took a day off work and went to handle the paperwork for the house transfer and pick up the car. By the time everything was done, it was already evening. So, I drove back to the apartment I once shared with Cole, planning to pack my things and move out for good; this time, I was completely done with him.

The moment I opened the door, I saw Cassie and Cole sitting closely together on the couch, looking disgustingly affectionate. Cassie was smiling sweetly as she fed him grapes, their eyes filled with affection. Yet, in my past life, I had been too blind to notice any of it. They had fooled me completely, toyed with me behind my back, and eventually even caused my death. Thinking back on it now, I really had been stupid.

Sensing my gaze, Cole looked toward the door. The moment he saw me, panic flashed in his eyes, and he immediately put some distance between himself and Cassie.

Then, he asked, “Why are you back, Sadie? We broke up. What are you doing at my place?”

I laughed in disbelief. “Your place? Don’t forget I paid half the rent here, too. This is my home just as much as yours. If an outsider like Cassie is here, why can’t I?”

Cassie’s expression stiffened for a moment, but she quickly forced out a fake smile and said, “Sadie, please don’t misunderstand. Cole’s been in a bad mood, so I came to help talk things out between the two of you. Cole, stop giving her the cold shoulder. Sadie came all the way back here to ask for your forgiveness.”

Listening to Cassie’s usual manipulative nonsense, I found it ridiculous. In my previous life, every time Cole and I argued, she would play the peacemaker, acting as if she were trying to help us reconcile. Yet somehow, after every single one of her “mediations,” our fights only got worse, and now I understood why. She was never trying to help; she was deliberately stirring the pot while getting closer to Cole behind my back.

Seeing me smile, Cole mistakenly thought I believed Cassie’s act. He lifted his chin and snorted.

“Sadie, since Cassie’s been saying good things about you, I’ll give you one last chance. As long as you return those gifts, I can overlook everything and forgive you, I guess,” he said.

I was speechless for a moment. “Cole, stop being so full of yourself. I don’t care about your forgiveness. I meant it when I agreed to break up with you at the office earlier. We’re over. I only came back to pack my things before moving into my new home.”

The moment I snapped back at him, Cole’s face turned pale. At the mention of the mansion, both his and Cassie’s eyes turned green with envy, and they gritted their teeth in frustration. Suddenly, as if she thought of something, Cassie leaned toward Cole and whispered a few words into his ear.

I couldn’t be bothered to care, so I went straight into the bedroom to pack. I took the wooden doll Cole had once hand-carved for me—a keepsake I had kept in the drawer—and smashed it in half. Then, I tore down every cute photo strip we had hanging on the wall and threw the shredded pieces into the trash.

I had no idea what Cassie had said to Cole, but when I walked back out after packing my things, he immediately stood in my way.

He looked at me with his scheming eyes and said, “Sadie, since we’ve broken up, we should settle things once and for all. You wasted five years of my youth. For that, you need to make up for the breakup and emotional damage I’ve suffered. I’m not asking for much. Just transfer that mansion under your name to me to make up for it. Besides, what use does a woman have for a house anyway?”

I nearly laughed from sheer anger at his shamelessness. So this was what they had been secretly plotting earlier.

When I didn’t respond, Cole grabbed my wrist, a vicious look flashing through his eyes.

“Sadie, if you don’t make it up to me, don’t even think about leaving here today.”

Clearly, he had no intention of letting me go unless he managed to scam a mansion out of me.

While public opinion was at its peak, Cole sent me a message, his tone dripping with smug satisfaction.[See that, Sadie? This is what happens when you go against me. It doesn’t feel great being targeted online, doesn’t it? Even though we’ve broken up, I’m willing to give you a chance for old times’ sake. If you transfer the car and house to my name, I’ll post a clarification for you and say everything was just a misunderstanding.[Otherwise, just wait to be completely ruined. You got me sent to jail and even caused me to lose a leg. Being compensated is only fair.]I was about to reply when, suddenly, a one-legged woman charged out from the bushes nearby. She was waving a kitchen knife as she screamed and rushed toward me. It was Cassie.“Sadie, you b*tch! It’s all because of you that I ended up like this! Life has been a living hell for me. Why should you, the one responsible for everything, live so comfortably with a car, a house, and a high-paying job? I refuse to accept this!

When I came back to my senses, Elijah’s expression had turned ugly. He glanced at Thea with disappointment before pulling out my blood donation report as proof.“Take a good look at who actually saved your life.”Thea’s body jolted the moment she saw the name ‘Sadie Stevens’ printed in bold on the report, and her fingers clenched so tightly that they turned pale.“How is this possible… It was Sadie… So that means I was deceived? I almost killed my own savior?”Realizing that the truth had been twisted, Mrs. Foster shot Cole and Cassie a death stare. “Great. You two liars must have a death wish to manipulate Thea and me. You even tried to use us to kill Sadie. Someone, break their legs.”Never in a million years did Cole and Cassie, who had originally thought I was as good as dead, expect Elijah to appear out of the blue, back me up, and expose their lies in front of everyone. The bodyguards stepped forward, their expressions terrifying. Cassie’s face went pale, and she hid behi

Before I could even finish my sentence, Cassie pointed at me and burst into tears, launching into a tearful accusation against me.“Sadie, you stole my credit. I was the one who saved Miss Foster’s life. You took advantage of the moment when I fainted after the blood transfusion to run to Mr. Foster and twist the truth, stealing credit for saving his sister’s life! I never wanted to argue with you or fight for the title of her savior because I help others without wanting credit.“However, not only did you accept the gifts, but you even clung to Mr. Foster because of it. And now you’re turning around and framing me instead? Why do bad things happen to good people?”Standing aside, Cole snorted. “Cassie is too kind, Sadie. She was willing to swallow her grievance for your sake, but you just don’t know when to stop. You should’ve appreciated what’s been given to you.”Thea gently helped Cassie up, her face full of concern. “I’m sorry this happened to you, Cassie. Don’t worry. I’ll sta

Turning around, I glanced at Cassie.“Cassie, I have a clear conscience. I’m not afraid of a verification test, but are you?”Cassie and Cole exchanged a look, looking guilty. Seeing that they were hesitant to speak, the crowd around them grew suspicious.“This is the perfect chance to prove your innocence. Why are you hesitating? You’re not actually guilty, are you?”Under the pressure of everyone’s suspicion, Cassie and Cole had no choice but to agree to the verification. Soon, the results came out. As expected, the surveillance footage I provided was real with no signs of manipulation. However, their photos were confirmed to be digitally altered. The crowd erupted into discussion once again. Cassie glared at me before deliberately fanning the flames in front of Mrs. Foster. She said, “Even if the photos were edited, that doesn’t prove Sadie and Mr. Foster are innocent. Mrs. Foster, think about it. If there was really nothing between them, why would Mr. Foster give her such exp

I ignored them and simply pointed at the matching bracelets on their wrists.“I’m slandering you? Then how do you explain those matching couple bracelets?” I asked. At my words, Cole quickly hid his hand behind his back. Cassie stiffened and refused to back down. “Sadie, I just happened to have bought the same matching bracelet as Cole. And you’re using that to claim we’re having an affair? Isn’t that defamation?”I sneered. Then, catching Cole off guard, I snatched his phone and entered Cassie’s birthday, which unlocked it instantly. How ridiculous. In my previous life, I had also tried to check Cole’s phone. He once said his password was related to the person he loved most, so I tried my birthday, his mother’s birthday, and even our anniversary date. However, none of them worked. Only now did I realize that neither his mother nor he was the person he loved most; it was Cassie. After unlocking the phone, I immediately pulled up the overly intimate chat history between them and

“Also, think about it. If Sadie really did something so horrible, why would I, as her boyfriend, side with an ordinary coworker like Cassie instead of her?”Under the twisted narrative of Cassie and Cole, Mrs. Foster fell into deep thought, and the surrounding crowd began to waver.“That does make sense. So maybe Sadie isn’t as innocent as she looks…”Seeing the public opinion start to shift in their favor, Cassie and Cole exchanged smug smiles again.I, too, laughed and said, “Cole, stop twisting facts and changing the narrative here. Don’t think I don’t know you’ve been seeing Cassie behind my back. We were together for five years, but you’ve been secretly dating her for three. So, of course, you’d side with her. If anything, that just proves your motive to frame me is far stronger than mine!”The crowd was shocked.“I always thought Cole was a loyal, pure-hearted boyfriend. I didn’t expect him to be a cheater.”“He, Sadie, and Cassie joined the company three years ago. So, do
