James’s pov.

A long, sharp horn echoed through the walls of the pack house, shaking the air.

My head snapped up. I was halfway through my morning training when I heard it.

That wasn’t a normal horn. That was the alarm, they were more like emergency horns if something was wrong or about to happen.

Without a second thought, I grabbed my sword and sprinted toward the throne room. My boots echoed off the floors as I ran through the halls, my heart pounding.

When I pushed the doors open, I saw Alpha Ezekiel already seated on the throne.

His expression was firm, calm but I knew him well enough to see the worry behind his eyes. Kailey was beside him, holding his hand. Her eyes flicked up when I walked in.

Jon was standing near the center of the room, speaking fast.

“…he’s standing just outside the barrier. He’s not moving. Just standing there. Alone.”

“Who is it?” Ezekiel asked.

Jon turned toward him. “It’s Callen, Alpha Silas’ Beta.”

I froze where I stood. Callen?

Silas pov. I sat on my throne, carved from black stone and set high above the rest of the room. The hall was cold today, quiet, and dimly lit with torches that flickered along the walls. My crown rested beside me, but I didn’t wear it tonight. Oh yes. I had a crown, though it was one I hardly or barely even brought out. I didn’t need a crown to remind anyone who was in charge.Jerome sat a few feet away, leaning on one arm with his usual calm smirk. Callen stood near me, closer than anyone else, as always. His arms were folded but his eyes were sharp like a hunter who was out hunting late at night. Across from us were five older men, former warriors, now advisors and a few guards standing quietly near the doors. The meeting had already started.Oh yes I had called for a meeting earlier today. It's been a few days since Mira and Auren escaped and I haven't done anything to strike back, if it was un-like me. But today it was going to change as I had a plan in mind.“We have confir

James pov. The night air was cool, and the stars blinked faintly above the pack house. The moon was out too showering its light over the whole place. Tobias was still locked up in the dungeon, however, he wasn't treated like a criminal, rather, he was taken care off properly, only restricted from leaving at least till when the matter is further looked into. I had been inside all day, checking patrol reports and making sure the guards rotated properly. My head was heavy, and I just needed a few minutes alone. So I walked slowly across the front yard of the pack house, hands in my pockets, breathing in the crisp air. The ground was quiet, peaceful and then…Boom!A loud bang shook the earth beneath my feet. I stumbled, looking up as the trees swayed violently. The ground trembled. A few birds flew from the trees in fear. My eyes snapped to the pack house. Some of the windows rattled, and a pulse of golden light spread through the air like a ripple. The magic shield Mira had place

Auren's pov. Morning came fast, I have already been told earlier that I would be resuming training today. The good news was that it wasn't just me, but mira would also be training with us. The sun had barely risen when James knocked on my door.“Wake up, kid. It’s time,” he said through the wood.I sat up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. My body still aches from the whole stressing I went throughinside the ashborn cell and also from the running and escaping. It has been a few days but I could still feel the fatigue in my bones. However, even with the fatigue, I was different inside, I was home and I had a reason to get stronger. I pulled on a simple shirt and jogged out to the training field behind the pack house. Mira was already there, stretching her legs. Her hair was tied into a ponytail, and she gave me a quick smile when she saw me.“You’re late,” she teased.“I was having a dream,” I said, yawning. “You were in it.”“Oh? Was I saving you again?” she grinned.I chuckled. “

Auren's pov. The celebration from last night had taken a toll on me, however, it was far better than being in the ashborn cell. Now I can breathe fresh air, something I had missed for over a month, it was truly good to be back home. I sat on the soft grass near the training field, watching Mira as she played with a small twig in her hand. She looked calm, but I knew her mind was always busy. For the little time I had spent with mira, I have come to know that she was not like other girls. Even though we were the same age, she was much smarter, it was clear, And after everything we had gone through, I trusted her more than anyone right now.I tilted my head to look at James who was standing nearby, talking to two warriors. His back was turned to us, but I could tell he was keeping an eye on me like always.I leaned closer to Mira and whispered, “Are you sure you want to do this?”Mira looked up at me, her eyes serious. “Yes. He needs to know.”I nodded and stood up, brushing the di

James' pov. The music was loud, and people were laughing and dancing. The celebration continued, the whole place was properly lit. I narrowed my eyes, there was food everywhere, I could see children running around with bright smiles on their faces. However, I wasn't smiling. I walked through the crowd, pushing past dancing warriors and clapping elders, my hand tight around the bangle in my pocket. It was still hard to believe that the bangle had fallen right out of elder Tobias’s sleeves. Tobias was a well respected Elder and now this?. Regardless of who he was, all I knew and wanted was for him to face justice. Justice was all I stood for. As I walked, my eyes traveled to Ezekiel who was standing at the edge of the celebration, near the long table filled with meats and drinks. He was holding a goblet and speaking with a few elders. His eyes found mine instantly, and the moment he saw my face, he handed his drink to someone and stepped away.“James?” he asked, concern written
