“I asked you a question, Mr. Walter, and you have yet to answer,” I said, peering into the eyes of the sweating middle-aged man. “What are you suing my wife for?”

Once again, the man erupted into a spluttering fit, further intensifying my annoyance. Time was of the essence, and he was squandering it.

“Your wife falsified information that we published to the public… That’s the basis for our lawsuit,” the man finally stammered. He looked as though he was on the verge of a heart attack, and even though I knew it was because of me, I remained indifferent.

“That’s a blatant lie,” Megan fired back, and I gently squeezed her hand to halt her.

“Don’t speak, love. Let me handle this,” I told her sweetly.

Her brows twitched, and I almost chuckled. I knew she was taken aback by my tone, but if we were to be a couple for my father and the public, we might as well play the part perfectly.
