ログインCHAPTER 5- Don’t tell me my baby is gone.
“Do you want money? You can take it from my purse!” Rose screamed as he crouched over her, trying to cover her mouth. But she kept screaming and struggling. He was huge and too strong.
She tried to get a look at his face, but he was masked.
He continued punching her belly with force and Rose screamed in pain.
As he crouched over her, he took a second to reach for some pills in his pocket. Rose saw her chance and drove her knee hard between his legs.
“Get off me!” Rose screamed.
He yelled in pain, and immediately she tried to rip the mask from his face. That got him angry. He slammed her head against the floor. Rose passed out instantly.
Meanwhile, a woman who parked her car in the neighborhood heard the noise and dialed 911.
“911, what's your emergency?”
“Please! You need to come to Richmond Estate right now! A pregnant woman is being attacked here!”
She grabbed an umbrella from her car and ran toward the corner where she heard the noise.
When she got close, she was shocked to see a huge masked man assaulting a pregnant woman. She was scared, but she couldn't watch the poor woman lose her baby.
The masked man wasn't seeing clearly, because of the mask he got on and he got distracted while looking for the pills in his pocket, so he didn't notice the woman behind him.
He forced Rose’s mouth open, trying to push the pills inside, she knew she had to do something.
She held the umbrella with both hands and swung hard, striking the back of his head.
“Fuck!” Robin screamed, spinning around with rage to see who hit him.
It’s a woman in her early 30’s standing there, holding an umbrella
“Who the fuck are you?” He growled, charging toward her.
Immediately he stood up, fear gripped her, Robin was huge and intimidating, he was about six-foot and two inches tall.
“I'm not afraid of you! Just leave the poor woman alone!” she shouted, stepping back and swinging the umbrella to keep him away.
As she moved back, she tripped over a bag of trash and fell, Robin grabbed the umbrella from her, and as he wanted to hit her, he heard police sirens.
“Oh, you bitch! you called the police?” he growled, tossing the umbrella down and rushing back toward Rose to find the pills.
Unfortunately, he couldn't find the pills because they were gone when she'd hit him.
“Oh, Fuck!” he murmured, furious that the operation had failed. He kicked Rose in the belly one last time and fled, moments before the police arrived.
“You dumbass!” She shouted after he kicked Rose in the belly. She rushed to check Rose. When she turned Rose over, her panties were soaked with blood.
She checked if she was still breathing.
A wave of relief washed over her when she felt a faint breath. She tried to lift Rose, but she was too heavy. She searched Rose’s bag for any ID, she found nothing.
“Madam, what’s your name and how’s this woman related to you?” the senior police officer asked, pointing to Rose.
“I don’t know! I just heard her screaming from my car, and I ran here. I met a masked man trying to hurt her and I hit him with the umbrella,” Pointing to the umbrella on the ground.
“You haven’t answered my question. Your name, ma’am?” The officer asked, eyeing her suspiciously.
“Are you serious right now?” I called 911! She snapped.
“We’ve had people call 911, so they won't look suspicious.” He replied coldly.
“Y’all need” she started but the police interrupted.
“Ma’am, wait. What are you doing outside by this time?
“I don't even live here, I stopped by to drop off some files for a colleague at work and as I was leaving, I heard the noise” she said and paused for a second, the police officer still eyeing her suspiciously.
“You need to chill out with the interrogation, I’m still in shock from what I just witnessed, trying to save this pregnant woman!” she said sharply. Are y’all really looking at me like I had something to do with this. Do something! She's still on the ground!” She yelled at them.
An ambulance siren filled the air. Paramedics rushed to help Rose, lifted her gently and put her in the ambulance and took off.
The woman also joined them in the ambulance and a police officer followed them to the hospital to get a statement from her.
At the hospital, the doctor asked, “Ma’am, who is this woman to you?”
“No one. I just saw her on the road while she was being attacked,” she replied.
“We need a relative to sign before we can do anything,” the doctor said.
“Doctor, we don't have time. I don't know anyone related to her, but I'm sure you won't just leave her like this,” she panicked.
He sighed. “Okay. Just sign here, ma’am. We’ll begin now.”
He told her to wait outside while he treated Rose.
“Ma’am, we need a statement from you, and please submit your ID,” The police officer said as she stepped out of the room.
She handed over her ID reluctantly. “Sonia Martin,” the officer read aloud, with a sarcastic tone.
He gave her a paper and pen to write a statement. Sonia snatched it from him and sat in the reception area to write and wait until Rose was treated.
Moments later, the doctor came out of the room. “She’s awake now, so you can see her. But we don't know if her baby is fine yet.” the doctor informed her.
Sonia entered to check on her, but the police followed.
“Doctor, please get this police out. The patient is still stressed,” Sonia protested.
“Doc, I'm just here to receive the patient’s statement,” The police officer said.
“Ma’am, I'm sorry but I can't stop the police from doing their job, don't worry, the patient is stable.” the doctor said gently.
“Doctor! Please, is my baby stable?” Rose asked weakly.
“Please, calm down. We’re still running tests. Be patient.”
The police began questioning her as he took her statement down for her.
“Ma’am, what’s the body shape of the masked man who attacked you?”
“He was really huge, like a giant. I tried to pull off his mask, but he was too strong,” Rose replied.
“Have you met this woman before?” he asked, pointing at Sonia.
“No, I haven't.”Rose answered.
“Did you see her at the scene?”
“When I kicked him and tried to pull off his mask, I saw a figure from afar, maybe it was her,” Rose replied unsure.
“And after?”
“I passed out, so I don't know what happened afterwards.” Rose replied to him.
“Officer, please I hope that's all” Rose asked.
Her tone was off, she was only concerned about her baby.
“Yes, thank you” the police responded.
“Doctor, please don't tell me my baby is gone,” Rose panicked.
“Ma’am, please calm down and let me work,” he replied.
The police officer looked at Sonia. “Thank your stars your stories match. I couldn't wait to see you in handcuffs”
“What? You want to arrest me for saving a pregnant woman?” Sonia snapped.
As the officer was leaving, he paused. “Wait, you said this masked man was dangerous right?”
“Yes,” Sonia answered.
“And in your statement here, you said, you hit him with the umbrella in your hands right?” he asked.
“Yes,” Sonia answered again.
“So, could you explain to me, why this dangerous man didn't hurt you at all?
“He wanted to, but..” before she could finish he cut her off.
“But what? you both conspired to commit the crime, and cook this story up” the police said to her coldly.
“Ma’am, you're under arrest for the assault of Miss Rose Parks” The police officer said, removing the handcuffs from the pouch.
“I didn't assault her,” Sonia cried.
“Please leave her alone! a huge man hurt me, not her” Rose begged.
Rose cried silently on the call as Michelle told her story. “She reminds me of him, I couldn’t bear living with her, so Freda accepted to raise her for me.”The call was quiet for a moment, until Rose cleared her throat, “nobody deserves to go through what you went through in his hands, but Olivia is just a child and she doesn’t deserve to suffer for this.”“But she caused everything!” Michelle snapped, her voice cracking.“No! Austin did and Olivia shouldn’t suffer for that.”“Rose, I’m sorry, I can’t,” she cried.“Please, Olivia needs you.”“I’m sorry, Rose,” she whispered, and she cut the call quickly.Rose tried to call her back, but it went straight to voicemail.”Days passed, and Rose kept trying Michelle’s number, but still the same thing. “Hi, you’ve reached Michelle. I can’t come to the phone now. Please, leave a message.”Rose sent several messages, but they didn't deliver.Sonia too kept calling Frank, hoping he would finally pick, but his line was not reachable. She pani
Rose jerked up from the bed. Her sleepy eyes cleared immediately.“Michelle?” she whispered, stepping out of the room quietly so she wouldn’t wake Tyler up.“Yes, Rose. Are you alone?”“Yes, I am. I never knew you got my message. I’m so sorry to scare you with it, but I needed to speak with you.”“How did you know about my daughter?” Michelle asked firmly.“You mean the same daughter you abandoned?” “Look, if Austin sent you to me, tell him to back off, okay,” Michelle snapped.“Austin didn’t send me, I’m only concerned about Olivia.”“Then tell me how you knew about my daughter.”“Okay, I’ll answer.” Rose inhaled and spoke quickly. “Olivia and my son have been good friends. I saw a picture of you and Olivia in his bag. I recognized you immediately and he told me everything.”“You have a son now?” Michelle asked quietly.“Yes, I have had him since but I kept him a secret.”“Why?” Michelle asked.“Look, Michelle, I need to know if I can trust you and I need to know the truth too.”“T
He slid the letter into his pocket.“Anything?” Sonia asked, catching the movement.“Ohhh, th-aat?” He stuttered, forcing a shaky laugh. “It’s the receipt from the hospital,” he muttered, his hands trembling.“Austin, are you good?” Sonia asked, frowning.“Yes, yes. I’m alright.”“But your hands are shaking.”“Oh thh-aa-tt,” he said, forcing another laugh. “It’s just hot in here.”“Sorry, I’ll switch on the air conditioner.”“Thank you,” he said. No trace of him?” he added, trying to sound calm. But deep down, he was boiling inside. All he wished to do was smash Rose’s head against the wall. Rose had fooled him and Sonia had lied to him too, saying Tyler was Rose’s cat.“Austin, are you even listening?” Sonia asked softly.“Oh, sorry…what did you say?”“You didn’t hear me?”“I’m sorry. I just feel dizzy because it’s hot.” “So sorry, give it some time,” Sonia said, lowering the temperature.“Take it easy on yourself,” Austin said, noticing the look on her face.“Easy? Rose and Tyler
Rose ended the call immediately. “Tyler, we need to go.”“Go where, Mom?”“Please, no questions now.”“But I’m worried.”“It’s nothing to worry about, T.”“Mom, I heard you two arguing over the phone.”“I said no questions. Pack your bags now.”“But we can’t just leave our only home.”“No, it’s not.” Rose’s voice broke. “Your father took your real home from you, and now Sonia is doing the same.”Tyler blinked, “Aunt Sonia sent us out?”“Yes,” Rose replied.“Why? Did we do anything wrong?”“I don’t know, just pack your stuff.”“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what’s going on.”“You’re too young to understand, T.”“You’ve been saying that since I was born.” Tyler’ snapped. “I’m eleven now, and you still hide everything from me.”“And I promise to tell you, but we need to leave here now.”“No. Not until you tell me where we are going.”Rose snapped, snatching his school bag off his shoulder.“Mom, let me have it!” Tyler shouted, pulling it back. Before she could zip it open, he
“But why would they do that to me?” Sonia muttered.“I told you that you cannot trust them,” Austin said. She clenched her fists, confused. “Hmm…no. Rose won’t do that to me. I trust her. Something isn’t right.”Austin let out a bitter laugh. “You need to be smart about this. They’re playing you, Sonia.”While Sonia was deep in her thoughts, he kissed her cheek.“Stop,” she teased, pushing his face gently.“Just imagine it, me and you. We’d be unstoppable.”His lips moved slightly against her neck.“Austin, no,” she breathed. “Anyone could walk in.““I just want us to be together,” he said, his voice low as persuasive. I’ll even get you that Bentley you’ve always wanted.”Sonia's breath caught. “you said what?”“I mean it,” Austin smiled. “Just say the word.”“A Bentley?” She echoed faintly.“Yes,” Austin smiled, stroking her hair. “But only if you promise to cut them completely.”Her eyes darted away. “It’s not that easy.”“But you know they don’t care about you.”While Sonia was los
Just then, a deep, gentle voice came in.“No, it’s me. I brought you this.”She turned suddenly. It was Austin. He was holding a flower bouquet. Her eyes widened. “Boss, how did you…”“Shhhh,” Austin whispered, handing over the bouquet. She gave a shy smile. “Awnnnn, thank you.”“But, Frank could come anytime soon.”“I don’t care about your husband. That man doesn’t love you like I do.”Sonia smiled. He sat beside her. “So, tell me what happened? How did you end up here?”“Erm… nothing serious,” she forced a smile. ”Just food poisoning.”Austin shook his head. “I know you’re lying. You can trust me.”Sonia hesitated at first, but Austin pressed harder.“Okay, fine. I OD’d”“What? And that’s what you call nothing serious?”“You don’t have to be so dramatic, Austin.”“But, why would you do that to yourself?” “I hate my life right now. Just look at me, I have nothing. My marriage is falling apart, and to top it off my best friend wants to leave me,” she cried.Austin hissed. “You mean y
