The police officer ignored them and continued, reading her Miranda rights to her.

“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you can afford an attorney. If you can't afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you.”

As the police put Sonia in handcuffs, Rose’s phone rang.

“Oh that's probably Austin,” Rose said to herself, with relief.

The doctor handed her the phone.

She got more curious when she saw “No caller ID,” but she picked up.

“Hello?”

A deep, cold voice came in:

“You bitch! I knew you were not dead.”

“Who are you?” Rose shouted, putting the phone on speaker.

“I might have messed up that operation, but trust me,  next time I get you, I'm taking your head.”

“Who are you?” Rose yelled again.

He chucked. “Sorry, two heads, actually.

Yours and that dumbass woman who saved your life.”

 He cut the call instantly.

All of them in the room heard the conversation, and the room went silent for a while.

“Get this thing off me!” Sonia yelled at the police officer as he removed the handcuffs from her wrists.

“I’m sorry, ma,” he apologized.

“That‘s how y’all go around arresting innocent people. Please, get out of here!” Sonia yelled again.

“Ma, you need to tone it down. This is a hospital, we have patients in other rooms. And, officer, Please leave now,” the doctor ordered.

The police officer left immediately.

“Nurse!” The doctor called the nurse nearby.

“Please, continue with the test. I need to attend to another patient.”

“Okay” the nurse replied as the doctor left.

“How are you doing?” she asked Rose.

“I’m good. Thank you so much for saving my life. I’m Rose parks.”

“I’m Sonia Martin.” They shook hands as they introduced themselves.

“But what really happened? Why would someone want to kill me? I offered him money, but he refused,” Rose asked in confusion.

“He wasn't trying to kill you or rob you. In fact, your items are intact. He was targeting your baby,” Sonia answered.

“But why?” Rose responded.

“Did you hurt anyone, or are you connected with a gang?” Sonia asked her.

“No,” Rose responded.

“Well, he was focused on your belly, and I noticed he was trying to force some abortion pills into your throat. That was when I used force to hit him with the umbrella.”

Immediately Rose heard this, she took her phone to reach out to Austin.

Sonia kept explaining what happened, but Rose wasn't paying attention. Out of fear for their baby, she quickly dialed Austin’s number to send him a message, then remembered that Austin had blocked her line.

“Oh yes,” Rose said with relief, remembering, she had another SIM card in her purse.

“Sorry, is there any problem?” Sonia asked her.

“No, I need to text someone,” Rose replied as she exchanged the SIM card in her phone.

“Is it your husband?” Sonia asked out of curiosity.

Rose ignored her as she typed a message on her phone.

“Hey, it's Rose. I was attacked by a masked man. I think I'm in great danger. I have no idea why someone would want to hurt me or our baby. I passed out due to the attack, but I'm stable now. But, with the reactions from the doctor, I don't think our baby survived. Please, I need you right now, I'm at the Avenue Hospital.”

She sent the message.

“Rose, have you even been listening? The nurse is asking you a question.” Sonia asked, tapping her arm gently.

“Yes, yes,” Rose answered, confused and lost.

“What’s your blood group? You've lost so much blood and we need someone to donate for you. Any relatives?” the nurse asked.

“I’m O positive, and I've got no one,” Rose replied.

“What of your husband or father of the child? Isn't that who you were texting?” Sonia asked her.

Rose went silent and didn't respond.

“I’ll donate, I'm O positive too,” Sonia offered.

“Are you sure?” the nurse asked Sonia.

“Yes,” Sonia answered.

The nurse left quickly to prepare for the donation.

“Why are you doing all this, please?” Rose asked, feeling emotional.

Sonia sighed. “Well, let’s just say, you know the worth of something you don't have.”

“Awww, I'm so sorry.” Rose held her hands, feeling very sorry for her.

“I’ve been married for eight years now, No kids,” Sonia said, and she burst into tears.

“I couldn't watch him do that to you. Having longed for a child for so long, losing a child like that would be an unforgettable pain you'd blame yourself for. I really have faith and believe your baby is fine,” Sonia said, rubbing the tears from her eyes.”

Rose held her hand tightly, “I'm sorry about how you feel. Everything will work out well for you in due time, you just have to have faith.”

“Well, let’s cheer and drink to faith,” Sonia said, cleaning her eyes and chuckling.

“What are we going to drink in this boring hospital?” Rose smiled.

“Oh, they're here to take my blood, we’ll drink and cheer with that,” Sonia said sarcastically, as the nurse entered.

They both laughed.

“I apologize if this might change your mood, but don't you have any family or relatives who are aware of what just happened to you?” Sonia asked with curiosity.

Rose went silent again and remembered Austin. She checked her phone again, nothing from him.

“Expecting a call from someone?” Sonia asked.

“No,” she answered as the doctor came inside the room.

“Doctor, any update?” She panicked immediately.

“Ma’am, congratulations, your baby is perfectly fine, despite the internal bleeding but…”

“Yes!” they both screamed at the same time, not allowing him to finish.

“But, you’re really weak and you need to rest until we transfuse some blood into your system,” the doctor finished his sentence.

“Please, miss, follow me, let’s get your blood quickly,” the doctor instructed Sonia.

“Yes, I knew it! Congratulations, Rose,”  Sonia said as she rubbed Rose’s stomach. “So, we're gonna have a baby?” She added as she followed the doctor.

Out of excitement, Rose quickly dialed Austin’s number to break the news to him that their baby was safe.

The phone rang, and immediately Austin picked up the call, he yelled:

“What do you want from me, woman? I got your message, and I really don't care if the baby’s gone. Deal with it.”

He hung up.

Her heart sank instantly, and tears rushed down her eyes slowly.

Austin assumed the baby was dead and he called Robin immediately.

“Hello, boss,” Robin answered.

“Nice job done, she lost the baby, and that's exactly what I wanted. Come to my office by evening to collect double of what I promised.”

He hung up immediately.

Rose received another call, she felt a little hope again.

“Oh, maybe Austin has come back to his senses,” she thought to herself.

She looked at the phone and saw what she wasn't expecting.

“No caller ID” again. She panicked right away and her heart beat faster.
