“Eugene…” she murmured “Eugene… Eugene…”

After five days of sleeping, Mr. Lanchester opened his eyes hearing Lydia’s soft words. Her fatherly eyes stared at her pale face and tired fine lines.

Her sluggish eyes slightly opened, and a blurred image welcomed her after a long time of fear and loneliness.

Gradually, images started to appear and voices echoed in her ears.

“Father…” she murmured “Eh? Wha… What happened…”

“Lydia!” cried Mr. Lanchester, as he pushed his body onto Lydia’s, wrapped his arms around her and combed her hair with his fingers.

He smelled her deeply and remembered her deceased mother, then tears made their way out of his eyes down his cheeks. Tears escaped his eyes like uncontrollable dam; he was frightened that he might lose his beloved daughter.

“Father…” cried Lydia as she hugged his neck and tossed her head into his bosom. It was a warmth that she had not felt long ago. She missed his voice, his warmth, his hugs and
