RUBY’S POV

Everything that had happened felt like a dream. I still couldn't believe Diane was the one behind the mask and she had tried to kill me. Although she escaped before I could get a proper look, I was still convinced she was the one I saw.

If there was one thing I had learned in the past few weeks, it was that chaos had a way of finding me even when I was trying desperately to outrun it.

So I did the only thing I knew how to do.

I buried myself in work.

The moment I stepped into the ar

HARRISON'S POV By mid-afternoon, I had taken to glancing at the waiting room between sessions, my attention snagging on the empty chair that should have been occupied.“Where’s Benjamin?” I asked.“He hasn’t arrived.”“Did he call?”“No.” Meena avoided my eyes as she answered.“Can you try to find him? It’s been two weeks.”Even as I said it, I knew she didn’t want to make that call. She had never liked Benjamin. At first, I had assumed it was because of his inconsistency, missed appointments, unexplained absences but it went deeper than that. He unsettled her. Perhaps it was his size, or the awkward haircut, or the simmering defensiveness he carried like a shield. Then again, no one really knew Benjamin well enough to explain him.Almost as if summoned, he appeared in the doorway. He stood there with that odd-legged shuffle of his, hovering between entering and retreating, his expression anxious and uncertain. He was tall and overweight, with flax-brown hair and metal-framed glasses

  • A Night In Daddy's Bed   Chapter 52

HARRISON'S POVBeing a psychologist was a part of my self I've hidden from everyone that was close to me. All people get to see was the wealthy billionaire Harrison, no one knew this side of me. I went back to the small town where I had my hospital. I walked to work every weekday morning across Regent’s Park. At that time of year, when the temperature had dropped enough to bite through layers, I wore non-slip shoes, a woollen scarf, and what had long since become a permanent frown.Forget global warming. The older I got, the colder the world seemed. That was a fact as far as I was concerned. The sun hung low in the sky, a pale yellow disc suspended in an endless wash of grey. Joggers slipped past me with their heads down, their trainers leaving dark, fleeting patterns on the wet asphalt. The gardeners were meant to be planting bulbs in preparation for spring, but their wheelbarrows were filling with rainwater instead. From the path, I could see them huddled inside the toolshed, smoki

  • A Night In Daddy's Bed   Chapter 51

RUBY'S POVI shouldn’t have come here pretending peace was even an option. The lie sat heavy in my chest the moment I stepped out of the car, settling somewhere between my ribs like something sharp and unyielding. My fingers lingered on the car door for a second longer than necessary, like if I just stayed there I wouldn’t have to deal with whatever version of my father I was about to face tonight. But I knew better.Nothing in my life had been giving me the option to run lately. So I straightened my shoulders, forced the tension out of my jaw, and walked in.The house was quiet. Not the kind of quiet that felt peaceful, but the kind that felt staged… like everything had been arranged just right to create an illusion of normalcy. My heels clicked softly against the polished floor as I stepped inside, and for a moment, I just stood there, letting my eyes sweep over everything I used to know by heart.Nothing had changed. And yet everything felt different.“Ruby?”His voice came from th

  • A Night In Daddy's Bed   Chapter 50

RUBY'S POVI didn’t remember leaving the house. One minute, I was standing in my mother’s room, my hand still trembling from the phone call, my heart barely able to keep up with the weight of what I had just heard… and the next, I was already in my car, gripping the steering wheel so tightly my knuckles had turned white. They kept her.The words wouldn’t stop echoing in my head, louder with every passing second, clawing their way through every memory I had ever held onto, tearing them apart, reshaping them into something darker, something unrecognizable. My mother wasn’t buried.I swallowed hard, my chest tightening painfully as I pressed harder on the accelerator, the road blurring slightly in front of me as tears threatened to spill again. My hand shook as I reached for my phone, dialing Harrison’s number without even thinking about it, because if I was going to walk into whatever this was, I wasn’t doing it alone. He picked up on the second ring.“Ruby.”“I found something,” I said

  • A Night In Daddy's Bed   Chapter 49

RUBY’S POVI couldn’t stop staring at the bracelet.Even after we got back from my old apartment… even after Harrison had taken it from my shaking hands, examined it under brighter light, and confirmed what my eyes had already told me—I still couldn’t process it.The date was entirely different from when I was told that she died. And that meant only one thing.Everything I had believed about my mother’s death… had been a lie.“You’re going pale,” Harrison said quietly, his voice cutting through the storm inside my head.“My mother died in winter,” I whispered, my voice barely audible even to my own ears. “I remember the cold… I remember the black dresses, the way the house smelled like incense for days. I remember—” I stopped, my throat tightening painfully. “That date says spring.”Harrison didn’t interrupt me.He just stood there, listening, his silence heavier than any words he could have offered.“That’s not a mistake,” I said, finally looking up at him, my eyes searching his fac

RUBY’S POVThe moment the voice note ended, I didn’t move.“That laugh…” I whispered before I could stop myself, my fingers tightening around my phone as I replayed it in my head, over and over again, trying to place it, trying to convince myself I was imagining things, that my mind wasn’t already connecting it to something it shouldn’t.Harrison’s gaze shifted to me immediately, sharp and searching. “What about it?”I shook my head at first, instinctively, like denying it would make the feeling go away, but it didn’t. If anything, it grew stronger, more insistent, pressing harder against my thoughts until I couldn’t ignore it anymore. “I’ve heard it before,” I said slowly, my voice quieter now, strained with the effort of digging through memories I hadn’t touched in years. “Ruby,” he said, stepping closer, his tone lowering slightly, cautious now. “Where?”I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly dry as something clicked into place, something that made my stomach twist painfully. “There
