Chapter 4

I started coming to, it was still dark out, I was still outside so I slowly sat up but my parents weren’t next to me. So I slowly stood up and what I found when I stood up completely shocked my entire world, There was body parts every where, guts were hanging from trees and blood was spattered across the entirety of my back yard. I went to start looking for my parents and Temperence when I found them, it will be something I could never forget they were torn to shreds and when I looked down I was covered in blood from head to toe. What the fuck happen, I started screaming and dropped to the floor beside my parents and Temperence. I don’t know how long I was screaming for before someone came, I looked through the tears that were streaming down my face to see that it was an officer. “Victoria come with me you need to get to the hospital, I will ride with you.” He tried to pull me away from my parents but I wouldn’t move so he picked me up carrying me to the ambulance. He got in closing the door behind him and I could see one of the paramedics sitting next to me. “Victoria are you hurt anywhere?” I honestly don’t know I have blood on me but I am not sure I am hurt, I didn’t answer and that is when the darkness came for me yet again.

I woke up in the hospital with iv’s hooked up to me and a whole bunch of other things. I looked over to the chairs and noticed that it was Officer Michael. I tried to talk but my throat was dry and sore, I tried to sit up but was unable to move. Officer Michael must have heard me moving around because he jumped up. “Victoria your awake thank the heavens, sit back in that bed right now.” I tried to speak but yet again I was not able to, “Stop trying to talk let me get you some water.” He went over to the little stand that was beside me pouring a glass of water and handing it to me. I took a small drink and my throat felt amazing better. “Michael why am I here?” He looked at me like I had grown a second head, “Victoria do you not remember what happen?” That is when everything hit me and I just started crying again, Officer Michael walked over to me placing a hand on mine, “Ssshhh it will be ok but Victoria I have to ask what happen?” I looked down at my hands, “ I honestly don’t know I remember being in pain before passing out and when I woke up everyone was dead. I had blood all over me but I don’t know if it was mine or my parents.” He grabbed my hand, “Victoria you did have a stomach gash but it seemed to not be as bad as the doctors originally thought they just had to cover it up to keep it from getting infected.” I started crying again, “Victoria they found skin in your teeth do you remember biting anyone?” I just looked at him, “ I honestly don’t remember anything other than being in pain before hand.” He just stood their for a moment, “Alright Victoria I have to head to the station and turn in your statement but try to rest while I am gone ok.”

With that he left me in the hospital by myself, what happen to my friends and family? Could I have done that to them is that why I can’t remember? But there was a knock at the door that brought me out of my thoughts. “Come in” But who walked through that door I wasn’t expecting, Dimitri, walked in carefully looking behind him before closing the door behind him. “Victoria are you ok? I heard what happen I am so sorry.” I just started crying again and he came running towards the bed, he careful hugged me. “Vic what happen?” I just looked at him, “I don’t know I was in pain and then I passed out and when I woke up everyone was dead, they found a small gash on my stomach and flesh in my teeth but I don’t know what happen Dimitri what am I going to do I have no family left.” He seemed to be speechless with what I said but I could tell he was wanting to say something but he didn’t. He just held me while I cried, “Vic after your out of the hospital would you like to come live with me and my mom?”

I just looked at him, “I don’t know if I can until the investigation is complete.” He just looked at me I could see the wheel turning in his head, “ I will stay with you until this is all done I don’t want you being alone right now ok.” He went to walk away but I grabbed his hand, “But what about your mom I thought she couldn’t be left alone right now.” He came back kissing me on my head, I don’t know why but that sent sparks through my entire body. “It is ok Vic I called my best friend back home and told him to keep track of my mother for awhile that I had to stay here.” I let go of his hand staring out the window, “Vic I am going to get the doctor so they can check you over so we know how long you will be here for ok.” I just nodded my head Dimitri left the room, I continued to stare out the window. When I heard a knock at the door again, “Come in.” In walked Dimitri and a doctor the doctor walked over to me, “How are you feeling Victoria?” I looked down, “I honestly don’t know how to answer that right now.” He walked closer looking at the fluid levels and all the medicine bags that were hanging up and writing stuff down on a clipboard. “Maybe I should have been more direct I am sorry about what has happened to you but are you feeling any pain?” I just shook my head no, “ Can you lay back so I can check your wound please?” He lifted the hospital gown and gently started pulling the gauze pad back and his eyes went wide. “what is wrong? Is it worse?” He just looked at me then back down at the wound, “Victoria it seems to have healed completely already and is forming a scar already.” I looked down at my stomach and sure enough there wasn’t anything there but a scar.

“So what does this mean doctor am I going to be ok?” He just started look around my stomach, “I want to get some of your blood to make sure we didn’t miss anything is that ok?” I just looked at Dimitri and he shook his head no which confused me. “I don’t think that would be necessary doctor we can just assume it is a miracle, you can check with my family doctor this seems to happen a lot and we haven’t been able to figure out why.” He looked at me like I was crazy, “ Well I will have the nurse come and take the iv out but I do recommend you staying over night for observation and to speak to the grief specialist we have on staff.” I looked at him once more, “Doctor if I am being honest with you I just want to get out of here and bury my family please.” The doctor just nodded his head, “Alright I will have the nurse take the iv out and I will get your discharge papers ready I can’t force you to stay here if you don’t want to your 18 now correct?” I just nodded my head, the doctor turned around leaving Dimitri and I alone again. I looked at Dimitri, “Why did you tell me no when he wanted to draw my blood?”

He walked over to me grabbing my hand once again and those sparks that tingled across my body were again. “Because Victoria this happens every time you get injured and your doctor were never able to figure it out so why would I allow them to draw more blood to tell you the same thing again.” I guess he had a good point, “Dimitri I don’t have any clothes to change into the ones I was wearing are torn up and bloody and I am sure the police took them as evidence.” He kissed the top of my head again, “It is ok squirt, I will run to the house and grab a bag of your clothes and stuff I already got a hotel room so you don’t have to go back to the house ok.” I just shook my head, Dimitri grabbed my face gently with his hand making me look at him once more, “Victoria I will protect you with my life and we will figure this out ok try not to worry about it to much ok.” With that he walked out of the hospital room, once again I was left alone with my thoughts. What was the pain I felt before hand and why wasn’t I killed like everyone else?” A knocked interrupted my thoughts once more, “Come in!” In walked a small nurse, “Hi miss Victoria I am here to take out your IV is that ok?” I just nodded my head, she came over disconnecting the tubes before gently pulling the needle thing out of my hand and placing a small gauze pad over it with tape. “The doctor will have your discharge papers ready soon do you have anything to change into?”

I just shook my head no, “ My friend went to get me some clothes he will be back soon.” She didn’t say anything else just walked out of the room but as she walked out Officer Michael walked in. He looked at me with confusion, “Vic what are you doing? You should be staying here a little longer.” I just looked at him, “The Doctor said I don’t have to stay if I don’t want to and honestly I want to bury my parents.” He looked down at the floor, “Well Victoria that will have to wait until the autopsy is done.”

“Wait why do I have to wait they are my parents!” He walked a little closer to me, “ Victoria your parents and friends were murdered you can’t just expect to be able to bury them the same day this takes time.” I knew he was right but it doesn’t make it hurt any less, “Where are you going to be staying because right now is not a good idea to go back to your house.” I went to answer but in walked Dimitri with all his glory. “Officer Michael so nice to see you again, she will be staying with me at a hotel until the situation is resolved and were able to lay her parents to rest I felt it better for her not to be alone or at her house at this time.” Officer Michael gave a big smile, “Dimitri when did you get back in town?” Dimitri just smiled, “Well I was in town earlier yesterday for this one’s birthday but had to head back home shortly after but when I heard what happen I immediately turned back around and headed here.” Dimitri handed me a bag, “Here you go squirt go ahead and go to the bathroom and shower and get dressed the doctor will be in soon with your discharge papers ok.” I looked between the two of them and went to get up but my legs still weren’t working that great Dimitri caught me making sure to help me slowly get out of the bed. “Take it slow squirt we don’t want you hurting your self now do we.” I just smiled at him, he helped me to the bathroom door before letting me go in by myself. I carefully walked over to the shower making sure to turn it on before checking my bag. Dimitri even grabbed my shampoo and conditioner for me and a picture of my family and of Temperence along with some of their clothes and blankets. He really thought of everything, I placed my shampoo and conditioner in the shower. I got in and let the shower run over me while I let the tears escape me, my family was really gone god what did I deserve to this to be left all alone in this world. I was in the shower until my hands started to prune when I heard a knock at the door, “Vic are you ok? The doctor is waiting to talk to you.”

Shit I spent to much time in the shower, “Ya give me a second.” I shut the shower off grabbing my towel and got out I looked at myself in the mirror and I looked the same but you could see the sadness in my eyes. I hurriedly dried myself off before grabbing a pair of sweat pants and my dads t-shirt making sure to smell it which only brought tears to my eyes. I put everything back in my bag before walking out of the bathroom and over to the bed. Dimitri bent down to help me put my shoes on, Officer Michael watched us intently. “Miss Ambers I have your discharge papers here but if you started filling lightheaded or running a fever please come rushing back in ok.” I just nodded my head, Dimitri walked back towards me grabbing my hand and the bag, “Come on squirt let’s get you to the hotel so you can rest and eat something ok! Michael will be following us to make sure we get there safely ok.” I didn’t say anything I just squeezed Dimitris hand letting him lead me out of the hospital and to his truck. He helped me into the truck making sure to buckle my seat belt like he use to do when we were kids. Once he got in the driver seat he buckled himself up before driving away from the hospital. We sat in the truck in silence all the way to the hotel, It was an expensive one that much I knew but I didn’t question it. Dimitri pulled into a parking space and once it was in park he got out walking over to my side opening the door and unbuckling my seat belt helping me down from his truck. He grabbed my hand leading me into the front office area of the hotel and when he walked in the receptionist greeted him, “Aw Mr. Malenko you have came back we have your room already to go just head up there someone will be waiting with your key.” I never knew his last name before or that he was so well known.

As we walked to the elevator, “How do they know you by your last name I never even knew it.” He just gave me a smile, “Squirt, there is a lot you don’t know about me.” He lead me into the now open elevator and clicked the top floor that usually only had penthouses on them. I looked at him, “Why are we going there?” He just smiled at me again, “Because I always stay in the penthouses area.” My mouth fell open and he just started laughing, “It is ok you deserve this after everything that has happened.” We weren’t in the elevator long before it came to a stop and Dimitri led me out. We walked down a little bit towards the left and there was a man standing in front of a door. “Mr. Malenko here is your key for the room and let me know if there is anything else I can do for you ok.” The man went to walk away but Dimitri stopped him, “Actually can you have a two rare steaks, potatoes, green beans and some wine sent to the room please.” The man just nodded, I turned back to Dimitri “Um why did you order me all that I might not be able to eat much right now.” He just laughed, “Squirt you will eat because your stomach has been growling since we left the hospital.” I could feel my cheeks starting to brighten up, he opened the door to the penthouse and when I walked in let me tell you it was the absolute amazing thing I had ever seen in my life. I could feel Dimitri standing behind be so I turned around, “You stay here everytime you come here?”

He just gave me his award winning smile, “Yes I do no let’s drop your stuff of to your room and come back out to he living room while we wait for our food ok.” I just followed him through the penthouse and we came to a beautiful room that I never thought I would see in my life. He placed my bag on the bed and walked back out the room so I followed him. He went straight to the living room and plopped down on the couch that was there. I walked over sitting down a little bit away from him. “Dimitri, I don’t know if I will be able to sleep by myself I am scared.” He scooted closer to me I will stay with you until you sleep I will be right next door to you in my own room so I will hear you and come running if you need me ok.” I just shook my head and laid down placing my head on his lap. He looked down at me, “Take a nap Vic I will wake you when the food gets here ok, your safe I won’t let anything hurt you ok.” I just nodded my head as my eyes started to get heavy and I faded into a darkness that became familiar to me.”
