"I have learned in my experience that whatever idea pops in your head, just start working on it bit by bit," I said, filled with conviction as though she was imparting a hard-earned truth. The words were like sunshine breaking through clouds and filling inside with potentiality. "Little time, the world will know you for that," I flashed with an inner flame, as if my soul alight, while giving my advice.

They all applauded as though Sarah had touched something deep and personal within their hearts. The faces of the girls were beaming with smiles and glittering hope and inspiration as though they had seen a brighter future. It was like a wave hitting them, trying to erase their fears and doubts.

"Thank you kind madam," a man intoned very sincerely as he finally stood up from the assembly. The light from his shining eyes indicated a feeling of adoration as if he were seeing some kind of masterpiece. His words were soft like the breeze that blows over summer evening. "I want to boast about

Nods went all around, heads bobbing up and down like some strange puppet show. Gentle waves of agreement rippled through the room, faces determined yet calm. Adrian stood tall enough to be noticed, and I knew he had something to say; I couldn't take my eyes off him, waiting to see whether he would speak. His smile lit up his whole face as he started."Thank you so much for the ideas," he said, filled with warmth. "They are... wow... they are something extraordinary."The room held its breath as if anticipating the punchline. "And for this, the Sterling company is going to give you a holiday to Dubai," he said, even more delightedly, taking in the response around him. He shot a twinkly-eyed glance around the room like he was letting everyone in on an exciting secret, while the room felt as if it were in a vibrating mode waiting for a turn. The room was in chaos with everyone shouting in joy. Then, the voices cut up in pronunciation, tallied into a cacophony of excitement. The sound wou

It seemed as if his look had wrapped around me like a warm embrace, bringing a feeling of comfort, reassurance that calmed my nerves, giving balm to my soul. Yeah, right baby, he said in a low, soft voice, reaching out to place an assuring hand on my knee.In the touch of that hand, there was magic, a tingle running down my spine like a spark from an electric wire, igniting a fire inside me. And again, he reversed the car immediately, the wheels screeching at the very instant as if a bird took flight, the moment he turned the car around and sped towards my house. The car was flowing like a smooth and sinuous river through the streets while it was carrying us along with leaves in a stream towards the destination. We reached my father's house a few minutes later; the house was basking under the familiar sight of the building like a warm hug that enveloped me to safety. It felt looming like a comforting presence before us, and its walls seemed to be a sheltering wing, providing a haven a

"I said yes, Dad, but it was difficult to remain calm with a storm brewing inside me. 'He has, but was that a bad idea?' "I made an effort to reason with him, but there was a tinge of defensiveness in my tone.""Why could it be a bad idea for you?" thundered my father, his face deepening in hues with anger. "I have sold you to Adrian so that he can keep you soft for my information and scam some money for me," he spat venomously. "But tell me, how about all these while? "He boomed out to me, his voice rolling about the walls.I tried to soothe him down, explaining myself, but he wouldn't let me. "Oh, just shut up, you little rat," he sneered. "Instead, you came into the house and began to act against me. Is that right? I say something, and you come in with an immediate counter?" he screamed, his face contorted into an ugly scowl.I experienced mixed feelings of fear and aggression, but I kept my ground. My father's face was unchanged, but his eyes glinted with interest with a flicker of curiosity. He wanted to see how low I could go for my mother."We will see how far you're willing to go," his voice dripped with danger, each word almost charged with poison. The atmosphere became heavy with that threatening tone. "Let me see the extent you will sacrifice for your valuable mother," he sighed."No, Dad, you won't do that!", I said, trying to make him understand, my voice filled with deep emotion. But all he did was smile. He glared at me, each word like a whip. "Just watch me," he said, advancing toward me. I was afraid of him; I realized he could hurt my mom if he wanted to; he would use her as leverage to enforce his will.I was almost begging him, my voice quavering now. I needed him to feel something-humanity, pity, guilt. "Tell me why I should not take her life," he said with an eyebrow raised."She's your partner," I said, trying to remind him of his obligations as steadily as I

"Please, Samuel, do not do this," I pleaded, choking on my words, "Just do not hurt my mother. She has done nothing wrong, and so she'll never deserve anything evil."An indifferent expression manifested on Samuel's countenance, but I saw a slight spark of interest in his eyes. "Innocent?" he repeated mockingly. "Your mom is not innocent; she kept secrets from me, which had the potential to ruin my reputation and my business."A burst of rage filled me as it clued me in on his attempts to corner me with my supposed Mom's secrets - secret because they existed only in my mind. "That's not true," I said, my voice firm. "My mom would never do anything to hurt you or your business.""Let us see about that," he said, his tone laced with evil. "Now tell me all there is to hear about Adrian projects. I want to know every detail and every secret from your mouth.”Fear washed over me as I realized that time was not on my side. A decision had to be made. I could accede to Samuel's every demand o

Doing my best to keep my ears on the door and fully focused on Samuel's conversation, I simply could not take it anymore. I was shaking out of fear and anger, my heart pounding as each of his words ignited horror in me. His voice slithered into me like delaying poison, and the vein of awareness started giving off numbered cues of dread and horror."Is the doctor aware?" came the somewhat curious voice on the phone. Samuel didn't take long to respond, oozing with confidence as he said, "Yeah, sure, the doctor is aware, and only he knows the hospital." A shudder erupted all over me from what I heard, leaving my mind to swirl with great implications.Samuel continued, weaving a web of lies and saying, "I gave him a juicy payment, so he won't leak it." The person on the other end took a moment to digest what he had just heard, and when Samuel said, somewhat laughingly, "You know the reason I did it, right?" The other person hesitated before answering, "No, I don't, I would like to know.”

The still trembling in my chest from the explosion in my outburst which had barely subsided suddenly came to life when I heard Samuel's voice very clear and concerned, penetrating the quiet stillness. "Are you all right?" he inquired, his tone soft, his attention fixed on the face scrutinizing it inquisitively. I felt my throat tighten up and the words almost left me before I could think of how to respond "I.....". Samuel's gaze turned in my direction questioning and almost doubtful expressions forming on his narrowed eyes, he asked in disbelief, "Are you alive, you just spoke?"I felt a pang of self-defense, still exposed in emotion. “I did not, father,” I squeaked barely audibly. "I simply stated that I love you, I am awaiting your response,” a fragile conviction thereafter. My word left me staring into blank space and feeling more insecure than before with my chest on the ground and my heart on the sleeve.Samuel's face lost its serenity and the incomprehensible dilemma appeared a

I just couldn't stop grinning out the window of the taxi; it was the kind of smile that looked as if it was making fun of everyone. My lips were forming an amusingly shaped mockery: they curved into a U. This grin was such a dear friend; it is an affirmation of achievement, I suppose, that here again I had outsmarted Samuel and slipped away. Everything else just whooshed over us at tremendous speed, the streets of the town becoming a kaleidoscope of colors, of sounds. The taxi journey was nothing but a vague blur. This very minute, I was back home, with its familiar surroundings-the last one hour's drama and stress all behind me once again. I was shaking while paying the taxi driver and handing him the fare bill. Like that, I got down from the taxi to feel the coldness under my feet connecting them with the pavement. I took a deep lungful of night air and then went to the door watching it across extra heats.I heaved the door open, and the warmth of the living room batting at night sl

JENNY PIVMy screams cupped their ears with my own? I felt as though slipping off her control, being drowned in an abyss of excruciation. In an out-of-focus view, Adrian was leaning towards me in, eyes staring at me with such burning intensity of concern. His "What is going on?" sounded firm but buried in the undertones of fear, almost as though a threat to his self-control amid my torment. As if the pain refused to let me say anything, anything to his question, with the moment slowly refining into a blur.Adrian's hands held my powerless body, soothing me, but it didn't work; there was no soothing to be found. All I could feel was pain - pain so great, so consuming, so enormous. I felt like I was becoming lost, that I was passing away; that somehow losing consciousness would shield me from that horrible agony tearing through me.''Adrian's face was hardly an inch or two away from mine, and his eyes were now fixed on mine, as though filled with desperate concern. `Baby, please, what's

JENNY POVFurious banging outside sounded louder and louder as Grace wrapped her fists against the door. It was as if each strike manifested her anger physically through the evening air. "My love, please take it easy," Jenny said hardly above a whisper, turning to me and causing me concern. Concerned, Anna's eyes pleaded with mine; she seemed to search for tranquility amid a brewing storm."Adrian said to me, 'My love, I need to speak some sense into Grace'." Adrian, in his authoritative yet soothing voice, said, "Adrian said to me with a much softer voice: 'My love, I need to speak some sense into Grace.'"Not to say another word, Adrian walked toward the gate, determined and purposeful in his steps. Closely followed by me, heart banging loud in my ears, like the drums in a primitive ritual. Grace was truly filled with rage, and tension. My own simmering emotions almost boiled to the surface, ready to erupt at any moment. And again the sound of her beating grew louder; it insisted, a

I know about the little marriage you have with each other and I know how you both can drive a wedge into each other's side."Adrian's expression was like dusk, with his eyes blazing out all his pent-up wrath. "Touch her and your death will be at your door," he commanded. She chuckled gleefully, "Oh, but you have. I've been your model servant, pretending all along, just biding my time to strike and watch the disarray of your union as your history unfolds."I shivered at her words. Was this marriage truly in danger? Would Grace really fracture everything we had built together?Grace's words made me miserable with indecision. Surely, she wouldn't have done that. I looked towards Adrian to see how this would have affected him, but his face reflected no such expression- it had a strict seriousness."You will not lift a finger to

JENNY POVWe strolled to the living room and there, illuminated by the soft glow of the lights illuminating the path from the entrance, we found Grace (or so she claimed) standing with head downcast, turning eyes to the floor in a gesture of abandonment and with shoulders slumped in an act of discomfiture. "Good day, sir and ma'am," she addressed, her whisper almost inaudible, trembling slightly as she spoke, the words formed by hardly fluttering lips."Yea, Grace," he replied in a neutral tone, without a discernible expression, right when we sat together, as I was sitting on him, arms wrapped around me while holding me to himself, a hand softly placed on my stomach. Adrian then turned to Scarlett, his eyes narrowing as he studied her with a furrowed, working overtime with his brain to decode whatever she was ruminating upon."Grace, who are you?" he asked in a commanding tone that seemed to challenge such pronouncement, laced with some measure of skepticism, his tone even dripping wi

JENNY POVThe onset of this incident will forever remain my awakening hour, with the night still darkened. I became more aware of my surroundings, with the first thing in sight being Adrian, my husband, seated next to me with a most concerned look on his face. That dim bedside lamp light warmed him, throwing the depths of his worry into bold relief."What happened?" I pictured me demanding, but my voice was edged with confusion and alarm. Just as I attempted to rise, dizziness would encompass me, my husband's hands there to gently yet quite firmly assist me."You fell; you fainted," Adrian said. I kept on repeating it to myself in an attempt to fathom what it meant to faint. "I fainted?" I was finally able to whisper, the word now hanging in the air as if challenging my perception. He looked at me for a long moment, concerned but slightly annoyed. "Yes, love," he said gently but firmly. "I've told you to take it easy on yourself." Even as his tone reproached, his eyes showed the quick

"Honey," I called, sweet and gentle, hoping that Adrian would respond. But there was only silence. I waited for a moment expecting him to walk into the bedroom, but nothing.Sighing, I arise and manage to put all my strength into moving toward the kitchen. The instant Grace saw me walk through, she seemed to stop whatever the action was that she was engaged in and smiled, saying "Good morning, ma'am." In that voice, there was this plural, respectful and welcoming tone. I returned the gesture but instinctively put my hands on my huge tummy to rub it while feeling kicks from the baby inside. "Good morning, dear," I added just to sound a little more cheerful than I really felt.It was an exceptionally warm and inviting room that within one breath, would include coffee brewing. I found my usual place on the table an

ADRIAN POVIn the warmth of home, the weak lights of evening embraced us in lazy comfort. "Well, this is home; I was checking on Jenny," I muttered, sadly and tenderly gazing at her with concern. "We need to hire a maid," I soothingly suggested, trying to approach the subject slowly. But Jenny interrupted, her voice very clear and very strong. "No, baby. I can do all the housework," she opposed right away, with a determined glint in her eyes that dared me to argue with her.My heart reeked of love and guilt towards her. I smiled sweetly and said, "No, my love-no." "You are expecting and I cannot allow you to submit yourself to doing that." Please, let me take care of this." I pleaded as I caressed her hair softly, as though that might somehow soften her resolute spirit. She regarded my w

ADRIAN POVFour hours later, the wait finally ended. Dr. Dazzy walked out of the emergency room, a mask of professionalism on his face, his eyes revealing but a sliver of concern. He called out my name, voice laden with reassuring authority like a lifeline thrown to a drowning man, "Mr...?" Suddenly his gaze shifted towards the waiting area, raking in one after the other until at last, it rested on yours truly.I jumped up, my heart racing. Oh yeah, that's me, I whispered back. "How is she? How's Jenny?" The floodgates burst open. The treatment softened the doctor's looks a bit as he nodded. "I'm with your wife now," he said, almost holding out a glimmer of hope. "Let's talk," he said, sending a gesture toward one of the waiting room's quiet corners. My heart drummed in my chest like a drummer preparing for some primitive ritual. What was he going to say? Was Jenny okay? The uncertainty was murder.I quickly marched into the doctor's office, purposeful stride like a man on a mission,

ADRIAN POVAs we lay there, Jenny's body tensed, muscles broiling under the skin like waves about to crest. A grotesque distortion of her face came into view as her eyes were closed shut, and a strangled, guttural cry, "Hpppp!" escaped her lips, followed closely by a heartbreaking wrenching sound. This tearing sound ripped irrevocably through the very fabric of that moment. Eyes that once sparkled with humor and fun turned into tight, scrunched-up furrows of mixed terror and discomfort." And I, exhilarated, turned toward her, speaking soft, reassuring words, almost like a summer's warm, gentle breeze."What is it, baby?" I asked, leniently. Distracted by pain, Jenny barely perceived my touch as I brushed a straining hand from her forehead. In that instant, I felt an electric jolt through my fingers. Slowly, her eyes opened, and she gazed up at me- her expression blurred and hazy, breathing labored. Each rise and fall of her chest steered with ragged breaths alongside cowering flickeri
