“Just let me go,” I cried, my voice cracking.

He wanted to reply but his phone beeped.

“Pass me my phone,” he said pointing at his phone behind me. I stared at the phone and back at him, then gulped hard. I picked up the phone and held onto it.

“Pass it already,” he snapped with furrowed brows.

“No, I won't. You will give me the duvet first before getting it.” I replied feigning seriousness. I don't know what I was doing but I continued anyway.

“Don't be silly.”

He sighed and stretched his right hand to get the phone from me. Immediately I shoved my hands under my dress and hid the phone there.

“What do you think you're doing,” he asked, his brows furrowed slightly.

“Adrian, just give me the duvet to cover myself up and leave, then I'll hand over your phone to you. It is that simple.” I explained my voice gently but steadily.

“Huh, where exactly did you put my phone?” He asked, his eyes narrowed down to my abdomen area.

I tucked my hair behind my ear and sniffed. “Where I put the phon

I sat up instantly my heart pounding against my chest. Did Adrian come after me? I was silent maybe I could get a clue of who was at the door, but it was futile. I braced my chest and tried to allow the words to form in my throat. My vocal cords were against me; I inhaled and exhaled multiple times. Then I spoke.“Who's at the door?” I muttered my voice shaky. “Adrian, are you the one?”There was no quick reply and that somehow made me want to believe that it was Adrian because he was the only one in the house that fancied snubbing people.“Ma'am, it's me, Helen”, she replied, finally making me heave a sigh of relief.“Helen,” I called as if not convinced enough.“Yes, ma'am, it's me,” she replied, her voice speaking uncertainly.I furrowed my brows slightly studying the door as if it were see-through.“Are you there with anyone?” I asked in shutters. She hesitated before replying making me doubt her more. “No ma'am, I'm here alone.”I shut my eyes tightly and gritted my teeth; I was

I slept off a few minutes later and didn't even know when or how Helen left. When I woke up, I found myself carefully lying on the bed with my duvet well covered. My shoulder was well massaged and tied with a piece of clothing, and as if that wasn't enough, I wasn't dressed in the gown I went to sleep in. I sat up instantly blinking nervously, “what is going on?” I murmured. And then, to make matters worse, I felt weak, and I had pains all over my body. What could be the problem? I went to bed overwhelmed and hurt, hoping to wake up lighter and relieved, and then this?Soon, it was as if someone whispered into my ears, and instantly, I opened the dress I was wearing and found out that even my underwear had been changed. I let out a loud scream. I was sure about everything. I usually wore matching colored underwear but I saw myself in a different color of bra and panties. “Why on earth did my underwear get changed?” I murmured. When I took a glance at the wall clock I found out that it

“I'm sorry for whatever you're going through ma'am,” She whispered, her voice breaking. A tear ran down her left cheek and soon the other side did the same.“Helen, why are you crying?” I whispered. She shook her head and ran upstairs sobbing profusely with each step she took.It was plain. I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me what happened, it was clear, clear enough for any sensible person to understand. The earlier I accepted my reality the better for me. It was a bitter truth, indeed a difficult pill to swallow.Adrian had had his way with me.Why did Helen say what she said if it didn't happen? Why would she cry and feel sorry for me if Adrian didn't do it? She knows about it and couldn't even pretend about it till the end. My memory cast back to the evening in the garden, she told me about her rape story and how she lost her virginity. I couldn't relate to it by then because our challenges were different, but now I think we are on the same page. I should be more sorry for mysel

Accusingly, my hands were pointing at his chest, and in a surge of my emotions, the words just blurred out. "Well, it's your behavior that brings out the boldness in me," I replied in an authoritative tone with resolve, my eyes on fire with indignation. But Adrian sat there, as tranquil and composed as a body could get. Far from looking startled, a smile escaped his lips-a soft, gentle curling of his lips-and seemed to belittle my anger."I'm talking to you, and you're smiling right?" I exclaimed, voice incredulous at the behaviors while oozing disdain with every word."What's so funny, huh?" I demanded, my eyes narrowed to slits, my face hot with anger.Adrian's smile never wavered; his eyes were on mine with an unnerving intensity."I don't know you to be this kind of lousy person," he said in a low, even voice, the words subtly rebuking."And I think you need a sleep," he said, his eyes steady on mine, his face the picture of calm and collected. The anger rose within me at his word

I was stuck there, cold with fear, rigid in body and by now completely insensitive to the outside world, as if frozen into a block of ice, as is the case with fish stuck in blocks of transparent ice.My heart was a pool of fears, my mind preoccupied with consequences; I envisioned the most horrific figure of my life-strict, serious, and forbidding Adrian lurch forward and spring into action, letting loose the storm upon me. I had crossed swords with his instructions and prepared for the shock.I closed my eyes, screwing them shut as if to shut out the brewing tempest. My heart jumped a beat, my breath catching in my current throat, while I waited for the explosion. I felt like the ground would open up and swallow me whole, allowing me to escape the scene unfolding before me. But I was trapped, frozen in place, unable to move or escape."Where is the food?" Adrian's voice thundered, firm and commanding, sending shivers down my spine.I stuttered an apology, my eyes still closed, my voi

His hot breath danced across my skin as goosebumps rose to the surface while his lips moved in slow, sensual motion against my neck. I felt my eyes flutter closed, my head tilt to one side, and let the sensation wash over me.My voice had barely reached above a whisper: "Adrian, what are you doing?" But he didn't respond. His lips continued to make forays across my neck, sending my blood racing with waves of pleasure. The stiffness of my body sags, my muscles dissolve in the closeness to his kisses-insistent, passionate. As I turned, my front pressing against his, Adrian's lips found mine, his kiss deepening, becoming more intense. His tongue danced against mine, sending sparks of electricity through my body, as his arms wrapped around me, pulling me closer. Adrian received Julian into his home; his voice was warm, inviting, filled with a ring of genuine pleasure."What brings you to my humble abode?" he asked, the spark of curiosity in his eyes as they stood there, still exchanging greetings.I sat quietly and listened to the scene play out in front of her as she looked at first Adrian and then at Julian. As I watched, I couldn't help but wonder who this man was and how Adrian knew him. I had never seen him with Adrian before, and her curiosity got the best of her. I looked into Julian's face: chiseled features, piercing eyes, a strong jawline. I further noticed a bag he had in his hand, and instantly her mind began to wander, thinking of what could have brought him to their home.Adrian's voice cut into her reverie as he said,"Oh, my bad, that's Jenny, my wife." He pointed at me, and I saw the flush rise to her cheeks, as I stood up, stretching out my hand to shake Julian's. I was dying to get to know him, to know more about this hands

I stood wrapt in contemplation, until suddenly a soft voice, musical in its tone, fell upon my ears."Hello, sweetheart, are you sad?" it asked in a voice so full of concern and empathy that it sounded like a gentle song. I felt a sudden jolt, as if I had been transported to a different world-one where the only sound was the gentle cadence of that voice.I turned my neck slowly, my eyes scanning the horizon, searching for the owner of that lovely voice. And turning, my gaze dropped onto the tall, powerful physique that seemed almost a statue until it shifted an inch as my gaze did; it looked as if a god of sorts were looming before me, radiating intense emotion as eyes held with an arresting glow appeared.A shiver skittered through my skin like quick electricity: It was Julian. His eyes flashed into the burn of acknowledged, intuitive familiarity."Hi," I said, my voice barely above a whisper, my hands waving in a tentative hello. JENNY PIVMy screams cupped their ears with my own? I felt as though slipping off her control, being drowned in an abyss of excruciation. In an out-of-focus view, Adrian was leaning towards me in, eyes staring at me with such burning intensity of concern. His "What is going on?" sounded firm but buried in the undertones of fear, almost as though a threat to his self-control amid my torment. As if the pain refused to let me say anything, anything to his question, with the moment slowly refining into a blur.Adrian's hands held my powerless body, soothing me, but it didn't work; there was no soothing to be found. All I could feel was pain - pain so great, so consuming, so enormous. I felt like I was becoming lost, that I was passing away; that somehow losing consciousness would shield me from that horrible agony tearing through me.''Adrian's face was hardly an inch or two away from mine, and his eyes were now fixed on mine, as though filled with desperate concern. `Baby, please, what's

JENNY POVFurious banging outside sounded louder and louder as Grace wrapped her fists against the door. It was as if each strike manifested her anger physically through the evening air. "My love, please take it easy," Jenny said hardly above a whisper, turning to me and causing me concern. Concerned, Anna's eyes pleaded with mine; she seemed to search for tranquility amid a brewing storm."Adrian said to me, 'My love, I need to speak some sense into Grace'." Adrian, in his authoritative yet soothing voice, said, "Adrian said to me with a much softer voice: 'My love, I need to speak some sense into Grace.'"Not to say another word, Adrian walked toward the gate, determined and purposeful in his steps. Closely followed by me, heart banging loud in my ears, like the drums in a primitive ritual. Grace was truly filled with rage, and tension. My own simmering emotions almost boiled to the surface, ready to erupt at any moment. And again the sound of her beating grew louder; it insisted, a

I know about the little marriage you have with each other and I know how you both can drive a wedge into each other's side."Adrian's expression was like dusk, with his eyes blazing out all his pent-up wrath. "Touch her and your death will be at your door," he commanded. She chuckled gleefully, "Oh, but you have. I've been your model servant, pretending all along, just biding my time to strike and watch the disarray of your union as your history unfolds."I shivered at her words. Was this marriage truly in danger? Would Grace really fracture everything we had built together?Grace's words made me miserable with indecision. Surely, she wouldn't have done that. I looked towards Adrian to see how this would have affected him, but his face reflected no such expression- it had a strict seriousness."You will not lift a finger to

JENNY POVWe strolled to the living room and there, illuminated by the soft glow of the lights illuminating the path from the entrance, we found Grace (or so she claimed) standing with head downcast, turning eyes to the floor in a gesture of abandonment and with shoulders slumped in an act of discomfiture. "Good day, sir and ma'am," she addressed, her whisper almost inaudible, trembling slightly as she spoke, the words formed by hardly fluttering lips."Yea, Grace," he replied in a neutral tone, without a discernible expression, right when we sat together, as I was sitting on him, arms wrapped around me while holding me to himself, a hand softly placed on my stomach. Adrian then turned to Scarlett, his eyes narrowing as he studied her with a furrowed, working overtime with his brain to decode whatever she was ruminating upon."Grace, who are you?" he asked in a commanding tone that seemed to challenge such pronouncement, laced with some measure of skepticism, his tone even dripping wi

JENNY POVThe onset of this incident will forever remain my awakening hour, with the night still darkened. I became more aware of my surroundings, with the first thing in sight being Adrian, my husband, seated next to me with a most concerned look on his face. That dim bedside lamp light warmed him, throwing the depths of his worry into bold relief."What happened?" I pictured me demanding, but my voice was edged with confusion and alarm. Just as I attempted to rise, dizziness would encompass me, my husband's hands there to gently yet quite firmly assist me."You fell; you fainted," Adrian said. I kept on repeating it to myself in an attempt to fathom what it meant to faint. "I fainted?" I was finally able to whisper, the word now hanging in the air as if challenging my perception. He looked at me for a long moment, concerned but slightly annoyed. "Yes, love," he said gently but firmly. "I've told you to take it easy on yourself." Even as his tone reproached, his eyes showed the quick

"Honey," I called, sweet and gentle, hoping that Adrian would respond. But there was only silence. I waited for a moment expecting him to walk into the bedroom, but nothing.Sighing, I arise and manage to put all my strength into moving toward the kitchen. The instant Grace saw me walk through, she seemed to stop whatever the action was that she was engaged in and smiled, saying "Good morning, ma'am." In that voice, there was this plural, respectful and welcoming tone. I returned the gesture but instinctively put my hands on my huge tummy to rub it while feeling kicks from the baby inside. "Good morning, dear," I added just to sound a little more cheerful than I really felt.It was an exceptionally warm and inviting room that within one breath, would include coffee brewing. I found my usual place on the table an

ADRIAN POVIn the warmth of home, the weak lights of evening embraced us in lazy comfort. "Well, this is home; I was checking on Jenny," I muttered, sadly and tenderly gazing at her with concern. "No need to worry, babe. Jenny was fine," I comforted him with a smile, gently pulling him into hugs.As we moved on toward the room, the only sound from out two feet padding softly across the floor. "We need to hire a maid," I soothingly suggested, trying to approach the subject slowly. But Jenny interrupted, her voice very clear and very strong. "No, baby. I can do all the housework," she opposed right away, with a determined glint in her eyes that dared me to argue with her.My heart reeked of love and guilt towards her. I smiled sweetly and said, "No, my love-no." "You are expecting and I cannot allow you to submit yourself to doing that." Please, let me take care of this." I pleaded as I caressed her hair softly, as though that might somehow soften her resolute spirit. She regarded my w

ADRIAN POVFour hours later, the wait finally ended. Dr. Dazzy walked out of the emergency room, a mask of professionalism on his face, his eyes revealing but a sliver of concern. He called out my name, voice laden with reassuring authority like a lifeline thrown to a drowning man, "Mr...?" Suddenly his gaze shifted towards the waiting area, raking in one after the other until at last, it rested on yours truly.I jumped up, my heart racing. Oh yeah, that's me, I whispered back. "How is she? How's Jenny?" The floodgates burst open. The treatment softened the doctor's looks a bit as he nodded. "I'm with your wife now," he said, almost holding out a glimmer of hope. "Let's talk," he said, sending a gesture toward one of the waiting room's quiet corners. My heart drummed in my chest like a drummer preparing for some primitive ritual. What was he going to say? Was Jenny okay? The uncertainty was murder.I quickly marched into the doctor's office, purposeful stride like a man on a mission,

ADRIAN POVAs we lay there, Jenny's body tensed, muscles broiling under the skin like waves about to crest. A grotesque distortion of her face came into view as her eyes were closed shut, and a strangled, guttural cry, "Hpppp!" escaped her lips, followed closely by a heartbreaking wrenching sound. This tearing sound ripped irrevocably through the very fabric of that moment. Eyes that once sparkled with humor and fun turned into tight, scrunched-up furrows of mixed terror and discomfort." And I, exhilarated, turned toward her, speaking soft, reassuring words, almost like a summer's warm, gentle breeze."What is it, baby?" I asked, leniently. Distracted by pain, Jenny barely perceived my touch as I brushed a straining hand from her forehead. In that instant, I felt an electric jolt through my fingers. Slowly, her eyes opened, and she gazed up at me- her expression blurred and hazy, breathing labored. Each rise and fall of her chest steered with ragged breaths alongside cowering flickeri
