THIRD POV

***************

Whatever happened had left Dorian on his edge. The frustration and sensation of helplessness was highly undesirable. He hated it.

Dorian stood by the window, staring out, his reflection a tense, rigid silhouette against the glass. Soon his patience shattered.

“Goddammit!”

Across the room, sitting behind a massive desk, Antler didn't even blink.

He remained dangerously calm and collected, his dark eyes scanning a line of numbers in a financial ledger.

Antler was working with a dangerous focus that intimidated all his men. They traded anxious glances, moving quietly on their toes, none of them daring to 3620enrage him. He was at the rooftop, staring at the dark horizon with his hands locked behind him.“He looks scary today.” One of the workers whispered to Ariana. They were watching him cautiously from afar. “True. He could definitely swallow us.” Ariana nodded in agreement, her eyes fixed on his back. “Why don’t you go and ask him, Smile?”“Huh? Why me?” She frowned, still stung from what happened last time. “You guys go.”“But, you say you are close to him. Go.” They whined, pushing her forward. She glared at them, cursing too, but to no avail. She was pushed to the area.Antler’s gaze shifted slightly. He had heard the entire whispered exchange, though he didn't care enough to acknowledge it. Undesirable thoughts–Mainly Dorian’s ‘ridiculous’ talks– were causing a turmoil in his head already. She took a deep breath before app

Soon his patience shattered.“Goddammit!” Across the room, sitting behind a massive desk, Antler didn't even blink. He remained dangerously calm and collected, his dark eyes scanning a line of numbers in a financial ledger. He flipped the page, the movement smooth and unbothered, before he finally spoke, “What happened? Why are you fuming?”“I didn’t realize Zayne would be so—” Dorian turned around furiously, his fists tightly clenched, eyes burning..“Manipulative?” Antler finished the sentence without looking up from his files though a faint smirk lingered on the corner. He made a neat, precise note in the margin.Dorian’s eyes narrowed, a sudden spike of anger flashing through his expression. “You knew.”“Of course.” Antler

‘Zayne knows exactly how to position pieces on a board... Sometimes the truth he presents isn’t the whole story.’Why did Dorian talk like that? Why was he worried so much? I hated myself for it. I agree that Zayne lied about ‘many’ things. Being a hunter, working with Dorian, Amie’s murder, but he had finally built a sanctuary for us.“Argh… dammit.”“Ma’am?” My assistant asked.“You look stressed. Here. Take a look at our sales report. This will definitely lift your mood.” She beamed, pushing the file towards me.Oh, right, the spike in sales due to my image as an ideal wife. “Isn’t that something to be happy about?” She beamed. I glanced at them, not wanting to disturb myself with wrong thoughts and celebrate victory for once.“Yeah… you are right.” I sighed, forcing a smile, “I think you guys deserve a bonus too.” I smirked, watching her face brighten up before leaving.‘Enough, Kristine. Don't think about it…!’ I tried to force that thought but at home, with him by my side. I

KRISTINE’S POV*********************The heartwarming sight of my husband Zayne standing at the stove, cooking breakfast for me was too tempting. He was too focused on making a perfect pancake.“Don’t look at me like that,” Zayne spoke without turning around but a smirk came to his lips. “I can feel your judgment from here.”“I’m not judging, Mister. I’m admiring.” I corrected playfully, chin under my palm, grinning at my man.“Though, if you leave it on the pan for another thirty seconds, we’re going to be eating charcoal for breakfast.” I giggled.Zayne turned around, a look of mock offense on his face. He slid the perfectly golden pancake onto a plate and brought it over to me in a dramatic style.“Have some faith in me, sweetheart," “I always have faith in you,” I whispered softly, turning my head to catch his lips with mine in a brief but in-depth kiss. His large hand slid up to caress my cheek with a tenderness that never failed to give me a sensation of cloud-nine.But, slowl

PRESENT:After gaining what I aimed for, gathering all her love. Devotion and attention for myself, I found myself on the peak of felicity.Kristine was finally, completely mine. She had chosen me over everything. With my heart floating, I returned. The house was strangely quiet. Dimly lit. All the servants seemed to have been dismissed for the night. Only soft lights glowed in the hallway, bewildering me.“Hmm?” I came closer and noticed the red rose petals scattered on the floor. A seductive trail leading upstairs toward our bedroom.“Oh?” A slow smirk came to my lips. I loosened my tie, clearly amused by whatever planning she had.‘What an enticing welcome. She is surely in a mood.’My blood pumped faster. My feet happily followed the path. The scent of roses blended with her favorite perfume began to inebriate me A dirty comment was on the edge of my tongue when I entered, all prepared to unshackle all my longing.“Is my woman–” I stopped mid-sentence. My throat dried in anti

It was the same night I left Dorian’s organization.Stormy rain, harsh wind and I hated it. Each sound was a mockery. As if the clouds were laughing at me, at how I failed to protect my home. Therefore, I decided to burn every bridge.“Are you sure, Zayne?”“My dignity won’t allow me to stay, Sir.” “If that’s what you want. I will not force you.” Dorian took a deep breath, nodding in agreement. If anything, Dorian was always praised for his justice among his men.“I am willing to take accountability for my father’s actions. Let me know if you need anything. Anything to redeem.” I only gave a sharp nod and left. I walked away from the power, the protection, and the man who once called me family. With only Kieran by my side, I entered the shadows, another side of the underworld entirely foreign to me. A person I never was. An assassin.“Are you sure, Kieran?” Though I had my hesitations and worries.Me? An assassin? That wasn’t the future I had ever imagined for myself.“Trust me,
