Chapter 2

Author: Moore
With my business done and out of the way, I got a ride back to the Moretti Estate.

Upon opening the door, I walked into the unfamiliar sound of a woman chuckling in the living room.

The hallway was cluttered with suitcases, and the household help scurried to move the bags upstairs.

Dressed in a comfortable floral nightgown, Charlie nestled on the sofa with her swollen belly.

Casen took the plate of fruit from the butler and brought a piece of apple to Charlie’s lips.

As I stepped into the space, Casen plopped the fruit platter on the table right away.

“Hear me out, Bonnie… Charlie is due any day now. Her husband isn’t around, so I couldn’t just leave her on her own… Rest assured that she’ll be gone the minute the baby arrives.”

Flustered and anxious, Casen had a whole bunch of excuses prepared to convince me to let her stay.

“It’s quite alright. She can stay.”

I cut him off with composure as though the matter was not of concern to me.

“She won’t get in your way—What? You’re okay with that?”

Taken aback at first, Casen quickly beamed.

“That’s great. I knew you had a heart of gold!”

Casen took quick paces toward me. As always, he wrapped his arms around me in a sweet embrace.

He smelled of a peculiar milk scent, mixed with sweet, fruity notes.

Feeling sick to my stomach, I retched and pushed him away.

Before I knew it, Casen pressed me hard into his chest.

“Didn’t you see the doctor earlier? Why are you throwing up?”

His voice was thick with worry. He shook violently out of concern for me.

Tears blurred my vision. I simply couldn’t look away from Casen’s intense love.

Yet, despite his love for me, Casen betrayed me anyway.

I parted my lips, eager to confront him about Charlie.

Charlie’s bragging voice echoed from behind.

“Donna, care for some fruit? The baby’s father went out his way to get it for me.”

Charlie put the emphasis on the child’s father while her eyes drifted to Casen.

“That won’t be necessary. I can provide everything for Bonnie. Just keep yourself in check.”

Before I could answer, Casen jumped in to cut her off, his gaze menacing.

“You’d better watch your tongue, or I’ll have your husband come pick you up.”

Pale in the face, Charlie looked hurt.

However, she knew Casen wasn’t joking. Keeping her head down, she said in compliance, “Got it… Please don’t kick me out!”

Not sparing her another look, Casen helped me to the sofa.

“Arthur, fetch the apple puree and beef bone broth that’s been on the stove all afternoon.”

He turned to me, his eyes sparkling like a child seeking approval.

“I made the soup. Try it and tell me what you think.”

I was stunned. Having been waited on all his life, Casen had never set foot in the kitchen, much less cooked anything.

Keeping my head down, I cried softly, “Sure.”

Casen brought the bowl of soup to me and said with a smile, “Tomorrow marks our fifth Valentine’s Day together. I’ve cleared my schedule, so no one can bother us tomorrow.”

He rambled on excitedly about his plans for tomorrow, his eyes shining with expectations for the day ahead.

“I want to spend every Valentine’s with you.”

I quietly listened to his itinerary, feeling nothing inside.

Tomorrow would be the last Valentine’s Day we would spend together.

For that reason, I went along with his plans. It would be the perfect way to close the final chapters of our lives together.

From then on, Casen made it his mission to stick close to me. He no longer said harsh things or pressured me into making any decisions. With my career taking off, I was often out from dawn to dusk. Casen would wait outside the apartment building, opening doors and pressing the elevator button for me when I pushed Leena out on the stroller in the morning. When I was too busy to eat during hectic shoots, he would drop off hot food at the door without intruding on my space. I didn’t so much as look at him. All the hurt in the past stung and burned. I couldn’t bring myself to give him a chance to get close to me. Late one night, Leena started burning up. Her cheeks were flushed red, and her breathing shallow. She sobbed until her voice gave out. It was raining heavily outside. Cradling the baby, I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t stock any medicine at home, and the hospital was far. It was impossible to get a cab in the middle of the night. As Leena’s cheeks burned red

On that fateful day, I was pushing Leena in her stroller, walking out of the agency alongside Dave. We were talking about tomorrow’s scheduled shoot. “It’s probably going to be an early start for tomorrow’s shoot. We’ll begin filming at nine.” Dave scrolled through the calendar on his phone. “Uh-huh,” I responded nonchalantly. I paused the moment I looked up. Standing a short distance away was Casen. Gone was the sleek look he carried. His eyes were red-rimmed, and he seemed decades older. Spotting me, Casen froze and stared intently at me. He kept checking, unable to believe his eyes. The next second, he took quick paces toward me and cautiously embraced me, his voice trembling. “It’s you, Bonnie… You’re alive… I’m not dreaming… “Why didn’t you come back to Naples? Why did you cut off all contact?” He pulled me closer to his chest, his voice full of anguish and gruffness. “I’ve been looking for you for an entire year. I’ve tried everything. I thought you were gon

Casen stood there paralyzed. Snapping his head back, he looked Tyler in the eye. “What did you say?” Without a second delay, Tyler whipped out an international fashion magazine. The model on the cover glowed with confidence. “Look at the model. She’s a spitting image of Donna!” Casen stared at the cover, his fingers trembling. Tyler was right. The model was me. After faking my death, I traveled to Finland all on my own. I threw away every trace of my past to live for myself. During my downtime, I enjoyed taking a stroll along the streets, taking in the blue sky, the lake, and the avenues while being free from the weight of my thoughts. That day, I wandered the streets in a plain windbreaker when a soft voice suddenly called out from behind me. “Excuse me, sorry to bother you.” I looked back to see a well-dressed man, poised in his mannerisms. “I’m a talent scout, and you’ve got the look of a model. Would you be interested in doing a magazine cover?” All I

From that day on, Casen was like a different person entirely. He stopped bringing me up, nor did he ever travel back to Sicily. No longer taking his anger out on Charlie, Casen put all his heart and mind into the family business. Observing the change, Charlie was secretly delighted. She was convinced that Casen had moved on from me and accepted reality. Charlie started bossing the staff around at the estate, carrying herself with the authority of a Donna. Every time Casen came home, Charlie would welcome him while cradling the newborn. On occasion, Casen would give her a distant acknowledgment. Charlie believed that things could only get better with time. Little did anyone know, Casen was just biding his time. A year went by. Out of nowhere, when nobody was expecting it, Casen launched a coup. He swiftly eliminated his secret rivals and overhauled the Morettis’ hierarchy of power from top to bottom. In mere days, Casen held absolute power. No one could ever def

The consiglieri deliberated through the night. They believed that Casen was too obsessed with the late Donna to resume his responsibilities to the family. To squash the scandal and protect the Moretti name, they arrived at an important decision. The next morning, Charlie was invited into the Moretti estate. Sitting on the sofa, Mario wore a solemn expression. “Charlie, you and your child will live in this manor from today onward. We will push Casen into giving you a wedding.” Taken aback at first, Charlie quickly teared up and put on a grateful look. She choked with sobs, “Thank you, Consigliere. Thank you for accepting me…” Keeping her head down, Charlie wiped her tears. However, she had a hard time wiping the smirk off her face. That afternoon, she moved into the estate. The butler took her on a tour around the property. Eventually, he pushed the door to a room. “This is Donna’s room.” Standing at the door, Charlie stared at the spacious and bright bedroom. Envy

Caught off guard by Casen’s coldness, Charlie grew bitter. She lowered her gaze to the sleeping infant, Casen’s statement replaying in her mind. “My wife will always be Bonnie.” “Bonnie…” Charlie hissed through clenched teeth, resentment flickering across her eyes. “Even after you’re gone, you’re still a major pain in my ass.” She took a deep breath, and her eyes narrowed dangerously. Since Casen refused to give her her place, she’d take it by force. That afternoon, Charlie contacted the media who had been keeping a close eye on the Morettis, leaking the news of her premature labor and the birth of Casen’s son. She even hinted that she and Casen had been together for some time, and the child was the rightful heir to the family. The story became a viral sensation overnight. #TheMorettiHeirIsBorn#DonMorettisChildOutOfWedlock#NewWomanAndBabyRightAfterWifesDeathThe public felt bad for me and criticized Casen’s infidelity, all the while speculating about his new
