Chapter 2

作者: Cher
“Elysia, why didn’t Caspian come to pick you up?” Leia said with a sweet smile that barely hid her smugness. “It looks like he doesn’t care about you at all.”

On the morning of the wedding, she sat proudly in the passenger seat of Arnold’s Maserati, deliberately flaunting everything in front of me. Arnold was driving her himself. A bouquet of white roses lay in the back seat, every bloom flawless, as if carefully selected to show how cherished she was.

As for my groom, Caspian never appeared. I was told he was handling an urgent family matter, so only a single car waited outside my home. The driver politely informed me he was there to take me to the church.

Leia wasn’t done provoking me. She said triumphantly, “Arnold even booked the presidential suite for me tonight. He said he wants me to have an unforgettable wedding night.”

Her thoughts rang sharply in my head.

‘Serves you right! I’d like to see how you handle being humiliated in front of everyone at the ceremony later.’

Hearing her inner voice only confirmed how vicious and childish she truly was.

I replied calmly, “Family matters come first. That’s an unbreakable rule of the Falcone family. As his wife, I should understand and support him.”

“Sure. Keep telling yourself that,” she scoffed, rolling her eyes as she hooked her arm around Arnold’s and walked away.

The wedding was held in the Falcone family’s private church. Sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows, casting brilliant colors across the marble floor. Leaders of the major families were all present, dressed in formal suits, each wearing their family crest on their chest. Yet, the groom’s seat was empty. Only a lone bouquet of white lilies rested there.

Whispers spread through the church—soft, but filled with malice.

‘Is Caspian deliberately humiliating his bride? This is too much.’

‘Oh, poor Elysia, left standing there alone. This is a complete disgrace.’

‘I heard Caspian never wanted to get married. He was forced by the family.’

Deep down, Leia was gloating. ‘This time, you’re the one embarrassing yourself.’

As the atmosphere grew increasingly awkward, I slowly stood up and walked toward the microphone.

“Distinguished guests,” I said, my voice calm and steady as it echoed through the church. “I would like to say a few words.”

The entire hall fell silent. All eyes turned toward me.

“My husband, Caspian, is currently safeguarding the interests of the Falcone family,” I continued without a trace of hesitation. “As his wife, I am deeply proud of him.”

Immediately after, a soft but distinct round of applause came from the main seat. The family’s Donna, Isabella Falcone, slowly rose to her feet. She was seventy years old, yet her presence was as commanding as a queen’s.

“Well said, child,” she said approvingly. “A Falcone daughter-in-law must always understand the family’s priorities.”

One by one, the guests began to applaud. The mocking whispers vanished instantly.

‘This girl is smart. She turned the situation around so well.’

‘It looks like Caspian married a smart woman.’

‘If Donna Isabella approves, who are we to object?’

Leia’s face twisted, her fury nearly exploding from within as she thought, ‘I can’t believe she resolved it. No, I can’t allow her to steal the spotlight like this. During the toast, I’ll make sure you embarrass yourself in front of everyone.’

Thanks to my mind-reading ability, I saw her plan clearly.

When the toasting began, I held a crystal champagne glass and greeted each guest with composed elegance. As I approached Leia’s table, her thoughts began counting down.

‘One, two, three… Now!’

Just as she quietly stretched out her leg, I shifted aside gracefully, as if I had anticipated it all along, and continued walking forward without pause. She missed, and because she had used too much force, she lost her balance and fell hard onto the marble floor.

“Ah!” she screamed, and the hem of her expensive wedding dress tore on impact.

Arnold hurried to help her up, his face full of concern. Yet, his thoughts were nothing but mean.

‘What useless idiot! Making a fool of yourself in this situation is nothing short of embarrassing me.’

Donna Isabella’s expression darkened instantly.

“How disgraceful,” she snapped coldly. “You’ve humiliated the Falcone family.”

A deathly silence filled the church. Every gaze turned toward Leia, who stood there in utter humiliation. Her face burned with shame. Wishing she could disappear into the ground, she could only cling to Arnold as he escorted her out of the church in disgrace.

I calmly continued the rest of the toasting ceremony, maintaining my perfect composure. Inside, however, I sneered.

In my previous life, I survived Arnold’s controlling nature only by being cautious at every step. That was how I managed to secure my place within the Falcone family. Leia, on the other hand, never understood that living a good life was never about who you chose.

Since she desperately wants to destroy me, I will no longer endure it in silence.

After Arnold and Leia were executed, I finally escaped the nightmare of my previous life. Everyone who had once tormented me had received the punishment they deserved.By then, my position was secured. The nightclub and the art gallery were under my control, bringing in steady and considerable income every month. I had also trained a group of loyal subordinates and built my own network from the ground up.I knew it was time to propose a peaceful separation to Caspian.“Our partnership has been very successful,” I said one quiet evening. “But I think it’s time to end it.”Caspian was reviewing documents. When he heard me, he looked up. A flicker of pain, almost non-existent, flashed through his eyes.“What do you mean?”“I want to leave and start my own life,” I said, keeping my calm. “Our agreement is complete. I have enough resources now to live independently.”He didn’t respond right away. He just stared at me in silence, emotions swirling in his gaze—emotions I couldn’t under

“Cheers to family!” Arnold raised his wine glass, a polished but fake smile fixed on his face.It was the night before the so-called fate‑deciding arms deal. He and Leia had warmly invited us to dinner, acting like the perfect hosts. The long dining table was filled with exquisite dishes, each one outrageously expensive. To an outsider, it looked like a lavish family dinner, but I knew better. This dinner was dangerous. Through my ability to read minds, their plan rang clearly in my head—they had poisoned my wine.‘Finally, this day has come. Once Caspian dies tomorrow, the entire family will belong to us.’‘This b*tch has to die too. I’ve waited so long for this. Let’s see how she keeps up that noble act.’Under the table, I gently kicked Caspian’s leg, warning him to be careful. However, he seemed completely unfazed. As if he hadn’t noticed at all, Caspian calmly lifted his glass and echoed Arnold’s toast.“Here’s to the family.”We drank together. The red wine tasted bitte

In my last life, Caspian had died during a violent shootout with a rival organization. Everyone believed it was an accident. However, I had secretly heard that Arnold had been colluding with that very rival organization, and Caspian's death was likely a carefully planned assassination. This time around, I heard my sister say it herself that Caspian would die in a hail of bullets. That meant the plan was already in motion, and I couldn’t wait any longer.“Arnold, I’d like to talk.”The next afternoon, I sought Arnold out on my own initiative. He was in the family library, reading quietly. He looked gentle and harmless. Sunlight filtered through the blinds and fell across him, making him look more like a scholar than a man raised in the mafia.“Of course, Elysia,” he said as he set the book aside and politely pulled out a chair for me. “How may I be of service?”“I don’t think Leia is suited to managing the gallery,” I said bluntly. “She’s too… naive. She lacks business sense.”A

“Send her to the countryside estate for a month of reflection.”Donna Isabella’s voice, firm and beyond dispute, echoed through the Falcone family’s meeting room.Leia had laid hands on me, violating the most basic rule of the family. In the Falcone family, a capo showing disrespect to the underboss’s wife was no different from openly challenging the family’s authority. The so-called “reflection” was nothing more than house arrest. That estate was far from the city, surrounded by family guards, making escape impossible.“Yes, Mamma,” Arnold replied with his head lowered. However, through my ability, I could feel the fury boiling inside him.‘It’s all that foolish woman’s fault, getting me into trouble again. When we get back, I’ll make sure she understands the consequences.’That night, back in our room, Caspian carefully examined the marks on my face. His movements were gentle, yet the anger in his eyes was unmistakable.“Does it hurt?” he asked, his fingers brushing the scra

“The software isn’t worth much,” Caspian said, “but people are.”He lit a Cuban cigar, the smoke curling slowly upward in the dimly lit warehouse. The air was thick, heavy with the smell of tobacco and metal.“Ivan is one of the top hackers in the world,” he continued, looking at me as if patiently teaching a lesson. “His skills and experience are worth far more than a single piece of software. Two million to buy his expertise is a very fair deal.”Only then did I understand that Caspian had never cared about the backdoored software. What he wanted was Ivan himself. A top-tier hacker pushed into a corner, with no way out and no other options, was far more valuable than any tool. From now on, Ivan could only serve the Falcone family or face death.“You’re really smart,” I said sincerely. “That way, he becomes our exclusive technical advisor.”Seizing the moment, I added, “Since you’re so smart, I have a request of my own. I want control over the financial management of the family’s

After that, Caspian began bringing me into the family’s business and internal affairs. The very next day, he took me to a secret location. It used to be one of the mafia family’s arms warehouses, but it had long since been converted into a site for special transactions. The warehouse was massive, yet poorly lit. Only a few industrial bulbs hung from the ceiling, casting dim, yellowish light over the concrete floor.“Five million dollars. Crypto payment. Cash on delivery.”The voice echoed through the empty warehouse. It belonged to Ivan, a hacker whose English carried a heavy accent.Ivan was small and thin, around thirty-five years old. He wore thick glasses and a wrinkled plaid shirt. At first glance, he looked more like a reclusive nerd than a top-tier hacker capable of threatening the FBI. However, the laptop in his hands told a different story. On the screen, complex lines of code flickered nonstop. Neon-green characters glowed eerily in the darkness. It was a cutting-edge mo
