Chapter 3

Author: Back2Her
As the new menswear brand progressed, Celeste worked overtime more frequently and sometimes didn't come home until 1:00 am or 2:00 am.

She said the new collection had hit a bottleneck.

I told her not to overwork herself, but she'd just smile and say she was fine.

Then, another detail raised my guard.

When Celeste came home, her body wash seemed different. We'd always used the cedar-scented body wash at home, but for days, she carried this sugary floral scent.

When I asked, she brushed it off by saying, "The pantry at the office stocked new toiletries. If I stay late, I would just shower there since I don't want to come home and wake you."

It was a perfect excuse, but the unease in my mind sprouted like mad.

On another late night, she texted to tell me that she might pull an all-nighter and told me to go to sleep first.

I tossed and turned in bed before finding myself checking the security camera footage again.

The office lights were on, but Celeste's seat was empty.

Frowning, I scrolled back a few minutes in the footage and noticed that just minutes earlier, a figure had flashed past the camera and quickly moved into a blind spot inside the office.

Though it was just a glimpse, I was sure it wasn't Celeste!

I jumped out of bed and threw on my clothes in the shortest time possible. After packing the simmered chicken soup into an insulated thermal flask, I rushed out of the house with it.

15 minutes later, I was downstairs at her company. Only her office was lit throughout the entire floor.

My heart pounded as I walked to her office door and noticed it was unlocked. When I pushed it open, it was empty.

How could it be? I saw a man go in!

I checked the design department, the pantry, storage room, and every possible hiding spot. However, there was no one around.

Breathing heavily, I returned to Celeste's office and heard the rustle of fabric, mixed with a woman's suppressed panting. It seemed to come from near the corner of the room.

I moved quietly toward the sound.

Up close, I noticed a narrow gap between a panel and the wall with light seeping through.

Without a second thought, I yanked the panel open and shouted, "Celeste! What are you doing?"

Behind the panel was a small space, almost like a mini fitting room. Celeste stood inside, staring at me in shock while holding the arm of a mannequin.

There wasn't a living person in the space other than her.

Looking at my twisted expression, she seemed utterly confused. "Babe? What are you doing here?"

Celeste never admitted to her cheating affair. Instead, she went on the offensive. She called her parents, then mine, crying into the phone and sobbing out accusations that I'd fabricated proof just to smear her reputation. She claimed that everything I'd done was to run off with some mistress and force her to leave the marriage with nothing.Overnight, I became the target of everyone's outrage. My phone blew up with calls of my parents' furious shouts and her parents' scathing condemnation, crashing on me like a tidal wave of blame. No one trusted me, but it was fine. I'd handled my compiled proof over to my lawyer, Adam Marshall.A week later, Adam sent Celeste a formal legal notice, along with divorce papers and a comprehensive file of proof attached. The contents of the divorce papers were simple—Celeste would voluntarily forfeit all marital assets and return the full investment I'd injected into her company, totaling 58 million dollars.Celeste refused outright. She hired o

One minute passed, then two…The office door burst open before Kai staggered out with his clothes in disarray. Celeste stumbled out right behind him, her hair tangled and wearing nothing but a man's shirt hastily thrown over her body."What's going on? What's that smell?" Kai coughed so violently that even his voice sounded strained.Celeste coughed so much she couldn't speak either. Neither of them noticed that I clearly recorded everything on my phone. As I put my phone away and turned to leave, Celeste seemed to sense something. When her head snapped in my direction, our eyes met across the hallway. All the color drained from her face.I just coldly stared back, then turned and stepped into the elevator. After that night, for the first time, Celeste stopped working late at the office. She seemed to have something weighing on her mind.A few times, she tried to start a conversation with me, yet seemed hesitant to speak. The calmer I acted, the more anxious she became. On Satu

I shut my phone and forced myself back into bed. This time, I couldn't risk alerting Celeste again.I had sincerely apologized to her for my previous behavior, the security cameras, and the scene at her office, by blaming it all on stress from my long business trip and the situation with Felix. It had made me paranoid and constantly overthink.Celeste seemed to lower her guard. Her attitude toward me seemed to return to the affectionate warmth we once had.The gentler she became, the more tightly strung my nerves felt.On Friday afternoon, I arranged a meeting with the office building's property manager using my leverage as the largest investor in the firm leasing the floors. I asked to review the floor plan of the entire building, then pretended to review fire safety layouts and load-bearing walls.Casually, I pretended to turn to the floor plan of the 22nd floor, where Celeste's company was located. Just as I suspected, the dimensions on the floor plan didn't match the renovatio

The scene in the living room was nothing like the intimacy I'd imagined.Instead, Celeste stood beside Kai and three others—two men and a woman—who were all facing a camera and introducing something onscreen. Professional livestream equipment was set up around them, and a small crew stood off to the side. All of them froze when I suddenly barged in. They looked at me, clearly stunned and confused."Babe? What are you doing here?"Celeste was the first to react. She had shock written all over her face.Others whom I couldn't recognize exchanged glances as the livestream had clearly been interrupted. One of the men recognized me. He was one of the business partners of Celeste's company. "Mr. Dalton? What's going on?"My mind went blank. This was nothing like the scene I'd anticipated in my mind.Celeste marched forward. Her face was flushed with anger and hurt, and even her eyes were red-rimmed. "Edgar, what the hell are you doing?"Did you just follow me and barge in here with

Celeste had explained the human figure as the mannequin being repositioned. In the heat of our confrontation, that explanation seemed to make sense. However, I finally noticed a flaw. That mannequin was specially ordered by Celeste for its realistic shape and weight of a human, made of a solid fiberglass core. A full-grown man might manage to move it and run around, but for a woman like Celeste, simply lifting it required a great effort. In the security footage, the mannequin had swiftly flashed by. There was no way she could have moved an object weighing at least 100 pounds with such speed in the dark.It had to be a man! He had to be hiding from me!Just as I was about to dial her number to confront her, something in me snapped back to reality.I'd acted on impulse once, and without solid evidence, doing anything now would only push me deeper into disadvantage. So, I shifted my approach and started looking at Celeste's finances. While helping sort through some bills, I reviewe

The heat of the moment had completely taken over and stripped away my rationality. I frantically searched every corner of the cramped space when Celeste finally snapped and shouted at me, "What the hell is wrong with you, Edgar?"Still finding no one, I yanked out my phone from my pocket, tapped on the security feed, and shoved it in her face for questioning. "Where is this man? Where are you hiding him?"When Celeste's eyes fell on the screen, her expression twisted with fury. "Were you spying on me?"Completely blinded by the human figure I'd seen, I ignored her reaction. "I'm asking you where this man is!""Man?" Celeste let out a sharp, mocking laugh and pointed at the mannequin. "That's the man you're talking about."After walking over, she adjusted the mannequin's pose until it matched the angle in the video. "I was just adjusting the shape of the mannequin, and to find the right angle, I'd shifted it."I was completely stunned. The mannequin's shape and build seemed to
