Chapter 4- Blame it on traffic

Sonia who had heard her husband's voice tip-toad to the bedroom door

She strained her eyes through the key hole and was hearing him very well

"It has not come to that" Tony said

His eyes evasive, trying very hard so that his tone of voice would not give him away

"Maybe she was held up by traffic" He suggested 

"Her phone was ringing but with time it stopped, I am sick and tired of this mess"

Tony recalled the time her phone was ringing with no stopping when they were on his bed ,with his friend on lime , she had to switch it off 

"You do not need to be , I promise to talk to her in a language she will understand whenever I set my eyes on her"

"All your efforts so far to make her see reasons are unavailing . Well I'm sorry to continue to bother you with my family problems, Even though you are not married, I think I have lump it up enough" Dr Ryan declared 

"Its no bothering at all,My brother" Besides what are friends for? 

"The fact that I'm not married yet made it a lot more interesting because it serves as reason process to Me, I appreciate it that am also privileged to have your confident in me, let me offer you something to cool your strained nerves first"

By way of that, Tony rose to his feet, strutted towards his bar cabinet where stood a big deep freezer that had always ensured constant supply of cold drinks in his household

He returned shortly with two bottles of Heineken beer plus three juice drinks for the kids, The kids were busy watching a cartoon programme in the telly 

"Cool off with this brother" Tony told him dropping the drinks on top of a centre table, uncorking them also

He likewise handed the juice drink to the kids who accepted their drinks with "Thanks"

"Thanks" Dr Ryan said, in spite of himself, wondering as he was sipping the cold drink, in whose man's house could his wife be at that hour of the night 

Tony sat down with one of the cold bottles of Heineken beer

"Do not worry, I will talk to her, she sure does not seem to appreciate the gem of a man God had given her"

In door, Sonia heard their conservations clearly, she was pleased that Tony was handling the situation with the adroitness it deserved

She prided him for rising up to the occasion,

Oddly enough, she did not feel any remorse towards her action

"Please do, For I will not continue to put up with her unbecoming behavior, if not that I wedded her in the church and these little kids also, the marriage would have been dissolved for long"

"At least if not for my sake, she ought to rethink for the sake of these three children" Dr Ryan said in a sheer resentment, pointing at the kids who seemed engrossed with the cartoon programme they were watching , They just sipped their drinks once in a while and seemed to have forgotten their mother

While Dr Ryan was worried over the flirtatious nature of his wife, Tony was on the other hand filled with joy that his love escapades with his friend's wife so far had not been discovered by his friend

Who as far as he was concerned was a simpleton. If not he, Dr Ryan would have since suspected that he had been sleeping with his wife

He could remember other occasions Dr Ryan had visited him with his wife in his bedroom as was just the case. His friend, no doubt had trusted him so much

Soon enough Dr Ryan downed his drink and told the children to hurry theirs. 

At least , he was happy that the children had stopped crying

"We will be going back home now, I'm counting on you as a TRUE friend to make her see reasons, to male her to understand that all that glitters is not gold"

Tony got to his feet quickly with the aim of seeing them off immediately

They had surely overstayed their welcome, "I promise you I will do that"

Dr Ryan sprang to this feet, The children did the same

"We shall see tomorrow in the office, But if there is any new development, I will keep you abreast"

"Sure we shall see, please do keep informed about any new development" Tony replied walking them to the door

Fleetingly, he felt his conscience pricking him on the way, he was betraying his friend that trusted him so much

Soon as they walked out of the door, Mrs Ryan who had been eavesdropping, walked into the sitting room to hug Tony, who was still locking the entrance door

"Thanks for saving the situation as usual' She purred trying to hug him

"You must have to get dressed and start going home to your family" Tony told her in a stern voice, As he tried to dodge the hug

"I mist not go tonight! We scheduled to meet this very night"

"No you must go! He added decidedly, walking back into the bedroom 

"I know that I do not mean anything to you! If not, why should you panic over nothing? Making a Strom out of a teacup " she exploded even to his surprise

"Not that dear" he answered

"You have proved my fears that I'm just nothing to you than a desperate bedmate"

"That is absolutely not so,Only that your family needs you more at the moment We shall still be seeing. But for the night, go back to them please"

"I cannot go!she maintained stubbornly sitting on the bed

Tony stood looking at her nonplused, unable to figure out what had come over h

He could not come to terms that a woman could be so indifferent to her family

"Please you must have to go" he pleaded with her

"I will go " she got to her feet

Only on the condition that you will not see me in your house again" she stalked into the closet to get dress

Tony followed her

"That is not what I mean! I did not mean to offend you, but to tell you what's good for you"

"You should better have told me that you are sick and tired of me" She was getting into her clothes

"I am honestly not dear, That would not prevent me from telling you the gospel truth no matter how bitter it sounds"

Mrs Ryan paused in her act of dressing herself,she started crying

Tony was moved as he held her, "I never meant it that way, am sorry if I had offended you"

Closing her eyed she rested her head on his chest, One thing led to the other 

Finally they found themselves on his bed with the issue of her leaving that night forgotten

He later urged her to call her husband to tell him she could not come home that night due to a flay tire she had on her way from oficr after s protracted traffic jam

She therefore called her husband to tell him just what Tony had said

She added that she will be passing the night in a nearby church till the next day, as she could not find any vulcanizer around that hour of the night

Before the husband could ask her the exact place she had the flat tire and why her phone had been out of reach, she had cut off ,

Not only did she cut off but had also switched off her phone that night in order to make it impossible for him to try further
