I got on my bike and drove into the night. The last time I’d used the bike was when Axel told me Derrick was at the club. I hadn’t ridden it since.

This time, I was riding with no destination, just to feel the night air and clear my head. There was too much to process.

She would’ve signed the papers by the time I got home, but that didn’t mean I’d sign them.

It was better to let her think the divorce was happening, go ahead with the public announcement, and then come clean to Aaron.

Yeah. That had to happen. Aaron was going to help me with Gary. I needed it done clean—no mistakes, no slip-ups. Just enough to put Gary away for the rest of his miserable life.

I wasn’t getting that promotion. That much was clear. Aaron would lose it, but maybe—hopefully—he’d understand.

I pulled off the road and parked on a deserted stretch. The night was silent and the only source of light came from the city in the distance.

I dismounted and stood there, hands shoved deep into my pock

Hii! I discovered a chapter was duplicated, I've tried correcting it but unfortunately my editor hasn't approved the correction and I don't know when it'd be available. I'm sorry for everyone that paid twice for the same chapter for that I'd reposted it but it'd be free instead. My apologies again and do have a great read!

  • A Substitute Bride For Mr. Voss   Location

♡Astrid ♡Saying I was scared shitless is an understatement, but still, I went to the address I was sent and hoped Adrian caught the clue as soon as he could and came to get us back.He called me. I watched the phone ring until it stopped. My calls and texts were being monitored.I was wise enough to know that. One stupid move could end my mother's life. And I wouldn’t forgive myself. To think I was ready to sign the divorce papers and let go of Adrian—I was a fool to believe Gary would just let me walk out.I felt the side of my jacket to make sure the knife I’d tucked in was still there. I wasn’t sure what I’d do with it, but I would make him feel it if I had to.The cab pulled over at the side of the road and the driver glanced at me.“Ma’am, you sure you got the right address? This area’s mostly deserted—bad things tend to happen around here. Are you new in town?” he asked.I shook my head and gave him a small smile.“No, I’m not new in town. I have to pick my mum up. She said she

♡Astrid ♡ He was cold —out of reach even. And yeah, while this hurts, it was the only sensible option not when Freya would be caught in the crossfire. And that's why I was in my room, sitting on the bed and fiddling with my phone. I straightened up and dialed mum. We hadn't talked much ever since the hospital, she calls in to check on me occasionally and apologized for never trusting in me and why it'd be a little hard before our relationship would get back to how it used to be, we were making progress. She picked up on the second ring. "Astrid?" Her voice was a little groggy, probably just waking up from sleep. There was shuffling and I could picture her sitting up on her bed. I ran my hands through my hair. "Mum," my voice came out a little shaky. So much for not wanting to cry while on the phone with her. "Sweetheart, what's wrong?" She asked and I stared up at the ceiling. "I'm divorcing Adrian," I said and the words felt heavy coming out from my mouth, it tasted bitter ev

♤Adrian♤I left the study and walked back to the gym after ending the call. To say I was in disbelief was an understatement. I knew Gary was evil—he killed my mother—but not to the point of wanting to eliminate Astrid. But he ended up killing my child.Yeah, he never liked her from the start. He even told me to break up with her and date someone “in my league.” But framing her and then killing her? That was the last thing I expected. Now I couldn't stop wondering why he killed my mum. Did she know something? Did she threaten to expose him? He must’ve seen her as a threat. That’s why he got rid of her.I pushed the gym door open and saw Astrid sitting motionless on the floor, her gaze empty, tears streaking her face. I squatted in front of her without saying anything. My chest tightened with every second that passed. How did we end up here? How would she react when she found out my father was behind the death of our child... behind the scar on her wrist... behind everything that broug

♤Adrian♤When I woke up the next morning, she wasn’t in bed, which was surprising because I always woke before she did.I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and glanced at it.10:15 a.m. Shit.I swung my legs off the bed, grabbed my briefs, and put them on before standing up. Did she go to work already?Judging by the fact that it was the weekend, I didn’t think so.I walked to the closet, pulled out a pair of sweatpants, slipped them on, and stepped out of the room.I glanced at her door. Did she go back to her room? For privacy and all?The thought didn’t sit well with me, even though we were both trying to adapt to this new change between us — seeing if this could work a second time. She'd probably need her privacy not after last night, when she felt like mine again. It felt like I belonged to her and maybe, just maybe she could trust me with her heart once more. So yeah. This had to work.A sound came from the gym, and I raised a brow. Another sound, again. Repeated thuds. She
