Iris groaned and forced her eyes open as streaks of sunlight assaulted her vision. She turned away from the window and closed her eyes again but movements in her room had her sitting up. She saw Berta, Loren and some other ladies who she was unfamiliar with at the foot of her bed and it startled her into a sitting position.

“Good morning, Miss Iris. Please allow us to prepare you for the day” Berta greeted with a smile and irritation crept up Iris's spine but she tried to hide it by schooling her face to show how confused she was at the large amount of unknown people in her room.
