"I miss you mom," I spoke under my breath, staring at nothing in particular. I was lying on my stomach, with my head positioned on its side on top of my crossed arms. My mind was full of jumbled thoughts that required my attention.

"I wish you'd just stayed with me in the safe room," I added, my voice breaking as a lump formed in my throat. The feeling of missing her just came randomly, right after I woke up after a night of tossing and turning. Hours of trying to find sleep after the scenario with Quinlan and the encounter with his slutty girlfriend. I knew I was going to be late for my duties, but I didn't have any energy to move.

"I wish I could pay my last respects to you." My brain felt like it was being torn into shreds. As much as I tried not to dwell on it, her memories kept coming back. I should have at least been allowed to bury her and say my last goodbye to her before she was burned. My eyes closed voluntarily when strings tugged at my mind, sending scorching stabs
