Chapter 4

Author: Cloudwalker
I moved into the most secluded room in the estate, where I could no longer hear Edward and Daisy's laughter. It was peaceful. Arthur would visit me from time to time, trying to cheer me up.

There were only two days left until Austin arrived—I just had to endure a little longer.

A voice came from outside the door as I daydreamed about my future freedom and happiness.

"Stella."

I opened the door to find Daisy standing there.

She was wearing a dazzlingly elegant gown embellished with pearls and a jewel-encrusted necklace. The softness and timidity in her eyes were gone, replaced by sharp, unyielding arrogance.

"What do you want? If it's not important, please leave," I said, unwilling to engage with her. I just wanted some peace.

"Aren't you going to invite your guest in for tea? Is this the kind of hospitality the Oskar family teaches?"

Since Daisy had abandoned all pretense of respect, I saw no need to be polite either. I struck her where it hurt.

"You used to be Edward's nanny—you have no right to judge me. No matter how luxurious your gown is, it won't change the fact that you come from nothing but an ordinary background. As for your child, one day, he'll hate you for giving him such a lowly lineage."

"You!" Her face turned ashen, her lips trembling as she struggled for words.

I felt delighted and was about to shut the door.

"Wait!" She forcefully pressed her hand against the doorframe.

"Daisy, I have no energy to fight over trash with you. There's no one else here. You don't have to pretend anymore."

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Daisy's expression turned bitter for a moment before she regained her composure.

"Ever since you moved here, Edward has been missing you. He keeps bringing you up. He even claims you wouldn't ignore him if I weren't so harsh."

"That's between the two of you. It has nothing to do with me."

"You're just playing hard to get, aren't you? You think distance makes the heart grow fonder, and once Edward grows tired of me, he'll remember how good you were."

I sighed softly, feeling exasperated. "I really have no interest in him anymore. You don't have to worry—I wouldn't talk to him even if you paid me."

"You need to stop this game! Move back in. I don't want your stupid bedroom anymore."

"I don't want to see either of you. Get out!" I shouted.

"If you truly don't care about him, why are you avoiding him? You can fool Edward, but you can't fool me. You're so manipulative!"

Daisy's lips curled into a twisted smirk, and an overwhelming hatred filled her eyes. "Do you know why you've never gotten pregnant?"

I froze, memories flooding back to me. The doctor had always assured me that I was perfectly healthy and that it was only a matter of time before I conceived.

But now, with Daisy's words hanging in the air, a terrifying thought took root in my mind. My voice came out in a whisper, "It was you two."

"That's right." She sneered. "To ensure my child becomes the rightful heir of Abend Group, Edward added birth control to your food after every time he slept with you. Now that you know, do you think you two could ever reconcile? You'll never win against me."

The rest of her words blurred into white noise. My head spun, and my legs nearly gave out beneath me.

Before I could steady myself, Daisy suddenly threw herself backward.

I instinctively reached out to catch her.

"Stella! What are you doing?" Edward's furious roar came from across the hall. Behind him stood Arthur.

My pupils contracted sharply, and my heart pounded wildly. It all made sense now. I suddenly recalled my first meeting with Arthur. It was when he had asked Austin for my hand in marriage. Back then, I had been infatuated with Edward and had barely spared Arthur a glance before rejecting him.Everything clicked into place. No wonder Austin had pushed so hard for me to be with Arthur. No wonder Arthur treated me so well. It had all been part of a plan.Daisy stood against the light, her face obscured by shadows like a merciless judge delivering a final verdict."I used to believe Edward truly loved me. I hesitated, wondering if I should let go of my revenge. But that fool… He's as idiotic as ever. He has no one to blame but himself for my ruthlessness. So? Is this secret worth five million?"I could barely think and simply responded, "It's worth it."Daisy let out a triumphant cheer. "I did it! I got my revenge. My child is now rich. I'm the winner!"Arthur had already heard abou

A few months later, news of turmoil within Abend Group spread. After Daisy gave birth, Edward publicly declared the child as the rightful heir to Abend Group. Naturally, his relatives opposed the idea—how could an illegitimate become the company's next president?Under immense pressure, Peter reprimanded Edward and clarified that Daisy's child would never inherit the company.Humiliated, Edward began clashing with his relatives, intensifying the conflict until several turned against him.The real threat wasn't Simmons Group—it was Abend Group's own internal strife.Austin chose not to support either side since it was an internal matter. After several intense power struggles, Abend Group's stock plummeted. Realizing that they would only incur more losses if they continued fighting, both factions finally sat down to negotiate a truce.Edward was widely regarded as an idiot and was officially stripped of his inheritance rights. Meanwhile, Peter married a new wife and, at the age of

Arthur's eyes widened in shock at my response. He said, "We just danced together not long ago.""No. It was much earlier than that—years ago, I think." A fleeting image flashed through my mind, but I couldn't grasp the memory no matter how hard I tried. Frustrated, I scratched my head."Don't change the subject. What’s your answer?""Alright."If I faked a marriage with Arthur, other companies would stop proposing marriage alliances with their families, and dissolving the arrangement later would be simple. For a brief moment, Arthur trembled with excitement. Tears welled up in his eyes as he grabbed me and spun me around several times.I quickly added, "But this is just for show. You understand, right?""Yes, I know!" He was still overwhelmed with joy.…The wedding preparations didn't take long. The flowers, the dress, and the rings engraved with our names were all ready—almost as if Austin had been anticipating my marriage to Arthur all along. But Arthur was just an ordina

As the dance ended, I felt a hint of reluctance."Why are you at the ball? What are you doing at the company now?"Arthur had joined Oskar Group with me, and I had asked Austin to arrange a position for him, though I hadn't inquired about the details. His smile stiffened for a second before returning to normal. "I'm Austin's secretary now.""How's work?"Arthur pointed toward Austin in the distance. "Mr. Oskar values me a lot. He even insisted I attend this banquet. Maybe it's because I'm too handsome—he probably wanted me to represent Oskar Group's image."I couldn't help but laugh. To be fair, Arthur's looks were definitely top-tier within the company. But his deliberate closeness to me made me suspect that Austin had picked him as a potential match for me."That's right. You're very perceptive," Austin admitted openly, not bothering to hide it. "I figured that bastard, Edward, would cling to you, so I found the most attractive man to make him back off.""How considerate of

I finally returned to the Oskar estate, and Austin was as happy as a child."Stella, you're finally back home!" he said, his excitement barely contained.I was speechless. "Is my divorce from Edward really something to celebrate this much?""Of course! Now, I don't have to worry about an heir. You're going to be the next president of Oskar Group.""What? Don't you plan on finding a partner?"Austin was ten years older than me, yet he had never pursued a relationship. I always thought he was just too picky."I'm not interested in women."The revelation took me by surprise, but I respected his choice. After all, one's happiness was the most important thing in life. From then on, I followed Austin's lead and learned how to manage the company. My days were packed, and I barely thought about Edward. One day, Austin handed me a document. "Stella, your ex-husband is coming."I took the papers and read through them carefully.Although my marriage to Edward was over, our families' bu

At that moment, Daisy fell right before me while my hand hung in the air. From any angle, it looked as if I had pushed her.Panic surged through me, and I quickly explained, "It's not what you think! I didn't push her—she fell on her own."Edward raised his hand to slap me, but Arthur firmly caught his wrist just before he could. "Edward, I won't let you hurt her."Edward let out a cold snort and crouched down to check on Daisy carefully."Are you okay? Do you feel any discomfort? Does your stomach hurt? Don't move. Wait for the doctor to arrive."He carefully pulled her into his arms as if she were his entire world. Meanwhile, I—his legal wife—was treated like trash and cast aside.Even though I had already decided to leave him, my heart still ached unbearably."Edward, I fell on my own. Stella didn't push me, so please don't punish her," Daisy said, looking pitiful, with tears in her eyes."You're too kind. Without me there to protect you, how would you survive in this world?
