The study smelled of age and authority.

Jacob sat in his leather chair, motionless. Calm. Silent. Watching.

Noah stood opposite, chest heaving, eyes wild with a fury he could no longer contain. His hand hovered over the desk as if itching to sweep it bare.

“You’re telling me,” he hissed, voice trembling with rage, “that you’ll just hand it all to him? To Xander?”

Jacob’s eyes lifted slowly, meeting his son’s with unnerving stillness. “I am telling you,” he said, voice measured, deliberate, “that this matter is already decided. The papers will be signed. Whether my hand writes it willingly... or begrudgingly… it changes nothing. Tomorrow, the inheritance belongs to your nephew.”

"I will never accept this!" Noah slammed his fist against the desk and the crack of bone on wood echoed. “You think I’ll sit here and watch him take everything I bled for? Everything that was supposed to be mine from the very beginning?” His voice broke into a near-shout, raw with bitterness. “I won’t! I’

“Had your fill of gazing upon a living god?” Xander's voice rumbled deeply as his eyes remained shut.Tatiana’s heart leapt into her throat. She hastily tried to sit upright, but his arm shot out, pulling her back against his chest. She landed with a thud on him, her palms pressed firmly against his warm skin. Her breath hitched. Slowly, his eyes opened, locking onto her trembling, uneasy form pressed to him."You couldn't do it last night, so you woke up to complete it this morning?"Her face went slack for a beat; color fled and then rushed back as she scrambled for an answer, fingers twisting at the sheet."Xan... Xander, I was just...""Taking advantage of a man in his sleep."He said it flatly, almost clinical—his face unreadable, the words slipping out without warmth or mockery, as if he were naming something ordinary.“I know I’m good-looking,” he said calmly, a teasing edge in his tone, “but if I were displayed in a museum, at least I’d get paid for it.”Her mouth parted in di

Xander came out of the bathroom and walked toward his couch to sleep. “You... you’re going to sleep there?” Tatiana asked, her voice breaking the silence. Xander paused, then turned his head toward her with a slight confusion in his eyes, as if the question itself didn’t make sense to him. “Yeah,” he said curtly, lowering himself onto the edge of the couch. “Y–you don’t have to.” Xander glanced up sharply, his brows lifting in surprise. Beneath it was a flicker of curiosity, almost like he wasn’t sure if he had heard her right. “What?” Tatiana's cheeks flushed as she swallowed hard. “You can… sleep on the bed.” The words escaped hesitantly, fragile as broken glass. Xander remained still for a moment, his gaze fixed on her, unreadable, before a faint crease appeared between his brows—surprise, deep and unguarded. “You mean that?” What she said meant more than an offer; it was an unspoken gesture of trust, a breaking down of the barrier he had set fro them. Tatian

“They’re about leaving now,” Derrick reported. A pause, then Tony’s voice slithered through, low and sharp. “Together?” “What do you mean together? They are married, Tony.” Derrick confirmed. “And hugging her. Like she belonged in his arms should be nothing.” Tony’s silence was thick. Derrick’s lips curled faintly, cruel amusement spilling into his words. “Enough, no one asked for your opinion!" The snarl in Tony’s voice cracked like a whip. The next sound was a violent crash. He stood trembling with fury. His chest rose and fell heavily, his fists clenched tight. His face twisted with rage, eyes blazing like a man ready to kill. His voice dropped lower but darker. “I will not let him take her from me. Do you hear me? I will never let that boy live.” His eyes narrowed, sharp and murderous. “Follow them!” "Wait, what? Again? Tony... hellooo..."Derrick hissed, careful not to be heard by Xander and Tatiana. "Damn you, Tony!" Selena stood, eyes wide with shock at the

Derrick lingered at the gate, the smirk never leaving his face as his thumb scrolled down to Tony’s name. The screen lit under his finger, and he pressed call. "Derrick?" "I've never seen your niece look this beautiful in a man's arms. They look cozy,” Derrick muttered, tilting his head. A dry laugh slipped out, low and mocking. “Seen the pictures I sent earlier?”"How useful could a picture of them entering his car be?" Derrick chuckled, low and taunting. “Useful? Oh, this is better than useful. I followed your dear niece and her husband. You won’t believe what I’m seeing now.” There was a pause on the other end. The silence before a storm. “Speak.” “They’re down by a lake,” Derrick went on, his tone dripping with mockery. He leaned against the post, eyes fixed on Xander and Tatiana's figures. “He’s holding her like she’s made of glass. Arms around her waist. The girl’s practically melted into him. Your mighty rival looks… happy. Like I’ve never seen him before.” The reaction

Tatiana looked at Xander, tensed. Her chest was tight, her breath caught halfway, as if the weight of his words had pressed into her ribs. Did he just say in-laws? The word spun in her head, strange, unsettling, too heavy to be casual. “Tatiana.” His gaze locked onto hers, sharp and unrelenting. “You’ve earned something most don’t. My thanks. I don’t offer it in business. I don’t offer it in life. But you—you forced me to recalibrate. And for that, you have it.” The blunt sincerity knocked her off balance. He wasn’t laying himself bare—he was too controlled for that—but the precision of his words cut deeper than sentiment ever could. She tried to breathe steadily. Silence framed them, delicate, fragile—until movement stirred at the edge of the gate. She didn't see it but Xander had seen it. Xander caught it at once. Recognition sliced through him. Derrick. He had noticed it long before they reached the house. At first, back at the company, he thought it was nothing—just anothe

The car rolled past the edge of the city, where the towers of glass and steel gave way to a quieter stretch. The skyline dimmed behind them, surrendering its brilliance to a road that grew narrower with every turn. Neon signs faded into memory, replaced by dim streetlights that flickered at intervals, their glow weak but sufficient to sketch the outlines of houses lined neatly along the sublane. The air seemed different here, less perfumed by exhaust, tinged instead with the scent of cut grass and the faint dampness of evening dew. Tatiana sat rigidly in the passenger seat. Her fingers coiled nervously in her lap, twisting together, releasing, then knotting again. She had asked Xander—once, twice—where they were going. He hadn’t answered, not directly. He had only given her the faintest smile. That silence lingered now, wrapped tight around them, pressing on her chest like an unspoken truth. When the car slowed, her heart jumped. Xander turned them down a narrower lane, one so
