Xander called Tatiana endlessly, but each call went unanswered.

His thumb hovered over the redial button with his jaw tightening and his eyes darkening with every passing second.

The worry on his face was raw, a silent storm raging behind his cold exterior. Finally, he looked at David, his voice strained but low.

“Did you get through to the hospital she said she was going to?”

David, phone still pressed to his ear, sighed heavily before lowering it. “No record of her, Xander. I called Lynx Hospital. They said there’s no admission under her name. She hasn't been there.”

Xander’s expression hardened instantly. The vein on his temple throbbed as he stood abruptly, his chair scraping harshly against the floor. His features twisted with a rare vulnerability—his brows drawn deep, lips pressed so tightly they lost their color, and his chest rising in quick, uneven breaths.

Meanwhile, Derrick glanced down at Tatiana’s phone in his hand. The caller ID lit up with “Mr. Michele.”

Liam’s car pulled over at the restaurant. He didn’t know what Tatiana wanted to achieve with this outing, but he dared not refuse her strict warning: “I believe you owe me this much.” He had no choice, not even to complain about having plans to meet his old man and ask what it would take for him to leave his business alone. As he stepped out of the car and the waiter greeted him, he could already sense Tatiana’s cold, calculating gaze from a distance. She sat at a four-chair table, the very picture of someone forced to be there, radiating composure and disdain. Xander was across from her, staring blankly, but fully aware of her coldness. Selena was by his side, opposite the empty chair he instinctively knew was left for him. A few steps brought Liam closer. Tatiana rose from her seat, and to his shock, came into a tight embrace—one so deliberate it pressed against the muscles along someone's jaw. Xander's.It was meant to prove something beyond a simple “my past is my past.” She

The meeting went on—smoothly, despite the few glitches that had threatened to derail it at the start. Freda was grateful for her memory. She pulled out fragments from past marketing department meetings, piecing them together with the rough sketches Ruth had managed to send over in that critical moment. . It wasn’t perfect, but it was enough. Enough to sound prepared. Enough to keep the board engaged. Enough to save her own face. Questions followed. Clarifications. Projections. Tatiana spoke when necessary. Brief. Precise. Controlled. Xander asked questions. Too many questions. Not because he needed answers—because he wasn’t ready for it to end. And that was the truth. He wished moments stop and left him stuck in the room with Tatiana. Two hours passed. By the end of it, Tatiana felt the strain in her shoulders. She was aware of everything: the hum of the projector, the scrape of chairs, the weight of his presence across the table. Throughout it all, Xander was unfocused. E

Tatiana had barely taken two steps when she stopped. She stood there, swallowing slowly, her spine still straight. Behind her, Xander blinked—once, twice—forcing himself to breathe, forcing control back into his veins. His face hardened, the cracks sealing shut. “You should stay,” he said, his voice measured, almost businesslike. “After all… you’re the image of the company.” The words settled heavily in the room. Tatiana didn’t turn immediately. The pause alone tightened the air, drawing every gaze toward her still back. When she finally faced him, her expression was calm—too calm—but the tension underneath it was unmistakable. Xander moved past her and took his seat, deliberately breaking the invisible line between them. “Freda,” he added, “brief us on the marketing campaign.” Freda stared at him. Now? Her brows knitted together in disbelief. Brief them? At this hour? Without notice? Without a single file in her hands? He was asking her to conjure a presentation out of t

Tatiana sat at the far end of the boardroom table, her posture straight, her expression cold and composed. Her hands rested neatly before her, The early-morning meeting was a farce, and she knew it. She had known it the moment the summons came. Xander knew she was alive. This—this summons, this urgency—was nothing more than his attempt to force proximity, to corner her where she could not walk away easily. What she did not expect was how quickly he would arrive. The boardroom doors swung open without warning. Xander was the first to stride in. He stopped dead the moment his eyes landed on her. For a heartbeat, the room ceased to exist. He stared. It was as if the world narrowed to that single chair, His face drained of all color, his jaw tightening so sharply it looked painful. His eyes moved over her as though afraid she would vanish if he blinked— Not as a man looking at a stranger—but as someone confronting a ghost that had crawled back into flesh. She had

Xander stood by the tall window, unmoving, as his little princess disappeared from sight. Ariana’s small figure was ushered into the waiting car by her nanny, her laughter drifting faintly before the door closed. The vehicle rolled forward, tires crunching softly against the gravel, until it vanished beyond the iron gates. Only then did Xander speak. “Let’s go to the company.” The chauffeur nodded immediately, pulling away from the curb. Xander leaned back against the seat as the car moved, his gaze fixed on the white tablet resting on his lap. The glow from the screen illuminated his face, sharpening the lines already etched there by a sleepless night. Evelyn Ratford. Deceased. Sixteen years ago. He stared at the photograph attached to the record. The woman in the image bore no resemblance to the Evelyn Ratford he had been introduced to barely two weeks ago—no shared features, no familiar expressions that could make one suspect forgery at first glance. And yet— There

Tatiana had made up her mind. This family who had kept things from her was nothing but strangers now. She would make her own decisions, rather than live under their lies. She was grateful they had at least saved her—but she couldn’t stay beholden to them. She would face whatever was coming, no matter the cost, on her own. The faint click of the door startled them. Two men stepped inside. Their expressions were unreadable, but Liam knew them too well. The detective he recognized instantly—calm, precise, but tense; the man accompanying him was unfamiliar, yet something in his posture and the slight twitch of his eye screamed trouble. Tatiana’s eyes darted between them nervously, while Damian mirrored her caution, though his gaze flicked repeatedly toward the unknown man. Liam’s eyes were fixed on the new face from the civil registry, sensing the tension hanging heavy in the air. The detective cleared his throat, finally speaking asfter they were offered aa seat. “Mr.
