Chapter 4

Author: Mango Seed
I fiddled with the ivory bangle on my wrist, my smile growing more and more pleasant as I said to Marie, "Back then, wasn't it Samson's father who fooled you like a child, until you grudgingly agreed to accept those three illegitimate children?"

The smile vanished from Marie's face. When she saw I was about to leave, she suddenly dropped to her knees right in front of me and clung to my legs, refusing to let go.

"I'm begging you! You can't have children anymore, anyway. If you keep this boy by your side, at least you'll get to experience being a mother!"

But Marie wasn't really begging me. For all those socialites at the top, reputation was everything. No matter how rotten things got behind closed doors, they always kept up the most basic of appearances. If this scandal didn't subside, Marie wouldn't even be able to get a seat at the table in our circle.

Besides, even if the Fosters had the best legal team in the business, the Shaw family wasn't exactly a pushover either.

There was no way this divorce would come cheaply. They would have to pay, and she was looking for an amount far more than just five hundred kilos of gold.

I didn't want to waste another second. I was ready to leave.

Suddenly, someone shoved me hard. My lower back slammed into the corner of the wall so badly I couldn't get up for a while.

Samson stood over me, glaring down with a face full of resentment and rage. "You made my mom kneel, Kelda? You've got some nerve!"

After that, Samson only got bolder.

The Fosters didn't just plan a grand party for the baby in a month. They started bragging about transferring the entire Foster Group to that illegitimate child.

Did they really think I was done with them?

I was just about to send someone to crash their party when my assistant called, stammering that my mom had been kidnapped and forced into a car.

Thinking back to what happened in the parking lot, my heart sank. I marched straight to the Fosters' celebration, but security stopped me at the entrance.

"Mr. Foster said the mistress isn't allowed in. They don't want to ruin the mood."

Unbelievable.

I clenched my teeth and forced the words out, "Tell Samson Foster to come out here, or I'll…"

"Or you'll do what?"

Suddenly, a bucket of slop was dumped all over me. The smell was so strong I nearly threw up.

Samson strolled out, looking disgusted. He waved his hand in front of his nose. "This was prepared just for you. To clean you up a little."

I clenched my fists and glared at him. "If you lay even a finger on my mom, I'll make sure the entire Foster family pays!"

Samson crossed his arms, laughing with the others, looking at me like I was nothing.

"You think the Shaw family is what it used to be? You're just a stray living off me, yet you dare to bare your fangs at me?"

No wonder he was emboldened to flaunt his affair with Jessica.

In recent years, the Shaw family had shifted from traditional industries into finance and kept a low profile. Most people thought we had lost our power.

But no one realized our assets had actually grown thirtyfold.

Even the investors scrambling to curry favor with Samson were only there because the Shaw family secretly handed the Fosters the best high-return projects, attracting a crowd of clueless opportunists.

I used to hide this to protect his ego.

Now, it had only given him the confidence to treat me however he liked.

"Let my mother go," I said coldly, "or I'll bankrupt the Foster Group today."

Samson swirled his wine in his glass and walked over, his eyes turning icy. He slapped me hard across the face. "Who are you trying to fool? You made my mom kneel. You should have known there'd be consequences."

A group of bodyguards forced me to my knees, holding my shoulders in the most humiliating position possible.

Samson shoved his phone in my face, a cruel, gloating smile on his lips. The moment I saw the screen, every drop of blood in my body seemed to freeze.

My mother, who had loved me more than anything, was tied to a wooden frame, while several bulky men raised iron rods and smashed them down onto her legs. Her painful screams echoed through the abandoned warehouse. They ignored her desperate pleas. Then, those disgusting men moved in to tear off her clothes.

Samson waved his phone, smiling as if it were nothing. "What now? Still want to act tough?"

He poured a glass of red wine over his shoes. "Either lick it clean, or I'll let everyone watch your mother and those men live on camera."

A wave of mocking laughter broke out as people started to sneer.

"Come on, lick it!" Samson said.

Rage blazed in my chest, threatening to make me explode from the inside out.

It was all my fault!

I had treated him too well, so much so that he had forgotten that the Fosters were just a pack of strays I had once rescued.

When I finally bowed my head in disgrace, a shout suddenly rang out nearby.

"Ms. Shaw! We found your mother!"

The crushing weight on my chest vanished in an instant.

I stared coldly at Samson's stunned and panicked face, and uttered each word clearly, "I want the Foster family wiped off the map in this city in three days."

"Marie Medici." Maybe it had just been too long since anyone called the old woman by her full maiden name. She looked confused for a moment before realizing it was me calling her.How could I call her by her full name? It was unthinkably disrespectful. So what? Marie had no choice but to swallow her anger and continued to stay on her knees, forcing a smile as she begged me to spare her useless son.I smiled right back at her. "Marie, when the homewrecker trampled all over me, you said nothing. When Samson publicly recognized his illegitimate child and humiliated me in front of the internet, you said nothing. Even when my mother was kidnapped and beaten by Samson's men, you acted deaf and blind. Unless..."I changed my tone, and for a second, a glimmer of hope appeared in her tired eyes as she looked at me anxiously. But my next words crushed her completely. "Unless you can make my mother stand up today and say she forgives Samson. Maybe I'll forget about everything then."

A sneer crept onto my lips. So… She did remember all the kindness I had shown her.But when people who were rotten to the core received any kindness, they would never think about paying it back. All they could think of was to try to take even more.It wasn't like I hadn't noticed something was off between Samson and Jessica. My pajamas, expensive dresses, and custom jewelry kept disappearing from my bedroom, only to show up later in Jessica's social media posts. When I asked her about it, Jessica just claimed that she liked the style and bought some imitations. But no imitations could have that same shine or quality. Still, since she was Samson's cousin, I didn't want to make a fuss, so I quietly asked Marie to remind her not to go overboard. But Marie simply said that since I had grown up surrounded by extravagance, I was probably bored with them anyway. If I wanted more, I could easily buy an entire box worth of luxury goods. Jessica, on the other hand, had grown up poor and n

Samson was so terrified that he looked like he was going to faint at any time. He howled in terror, shaking like a leaf.He looked at me, his eyes almost overflowing with desperation and pleading for mercy. But when his eyes met my cold gaze, any words of surrender caught in his throat. In the end, he accepted his fate. He closed his eyes and lay on the floor, licking up the wine bit by bit. The crowd's jeering laughter only grew louder.People pulled out their phones, snapping photos and recording videos of Samson's complete humiliation, then uploading them all over the internet.Public opinion exploded on the internet."Oh my god, isn't that the CEO of Foster Group, Samson? Am I seeing this right? Who in the world can make him lick wine off the floor?""It's called karma! That scumbag cheated on his wife, hooked up with his own cousin, and even had a kid with her. What's worse, they even had the nerve to broadcast everything and humiliate his wife.""Did you hear? The Shaw f

I suddenly remembered. When I first caught Samson cheating, he had the exact same look on his face.Ha. All men were cut from the same mold.I leaned back, completely at ease and not saying a word. I was simply gazing out the window lazily. It wasn't until the people on their knees were trembling from exhaustion and soaked in cold sweat that I finally spoke, slow and unhurried. "What I do doesn't matter. What matters is what you do."I lifted my chin, signaling for the bodyguards to let Samson go. The crowd pounced at him like starving wolves, immediately grabbing Samson as he tried to escape from the chaos. He was once again pinned to the floor under their feet in no time. His face twisted in terror as he struggled desperately. "Have you all gone crazy?! Look at me! Are you really willing to give up all the Foster Group projects?"But Samson's threats only made them hit harder. They spat in his face and rained punches down on him."You piece of trash! We thought a billionaire

The crowd erupted into a wave of jeering laughter.Meanwhile, I smiled very gently."Mr. Foster, you've seen my mother with your own eyes now. It's time to honor your bet, isn't it?" The Shaw family's bodyguards quickly stepped forward and pinned Samson by his shoulders. He was breathing heavily, his face turning bright red.Even the investors who depended on him for a living, no matter how unwilling, had to come over and apologize to me. They didn't know if it would work or not, but at least they put in the effort."There's no need to be so forceful, Ms. Shaw.""Yes, we're all businessmen here. We're just joking around to lighten the mood. Besides, Mr. Foster is still your husband. If you humiliate him like this, how is he supposed to show his face around again?""Cheating isn't such a big deal. What man hasn't fooled around a bit? Just turn a blind eye and let it go, yeah?""You can only make a living when everyone's amicable, right? The most important thing is to stay happy w

  • A Woman Scorned Came to Light   Chapter 6

Suddenly, there was the sound of a baby crying.Jessica walked out holding the baby in her arms, looking smug as she patted the baby. Gone was the timid, soft-spoken helper she used to pretend to be in my home. Now, replacing her timidity was pure arrogance as she was giddy with her newfound status."Tsk! These days, even someone who's barren can make such a huge commotion. Samson is one of the most powerful men in Oceanton. If I were you, I would just stay home and stop making a fool of myself. Oh, by the way…"Jessica froze mid-sentence as she suddenly backed away in shock. Some of the queasier ones in the crowd shrieked and covered their faces, unable to look. Samson's face went ghostly pale, and he gripped his assistant's arm for dear life.Everyone watched as the men of the Shaw family dragged over several blood-soaked men. They were covered with injuries; their limbs barely hung on, dangling like rag dolls. One man's eyes were completely gone, leaving two horrific, blood
