Stacey's POV:

My heart raced a thousand miles per minute as I took one step after the other, stepping into the hospital. All eyes turned towards me.

Okay, I needed to calm down.

But I couldn’t. I would’ve been caught, and that too by Sophia’s friends, of all people. I couldn’t let this news get to Sophia at any cost.

I took a deep breath and continued walking into the hospital with a fake smile glued on my face. Suddenly my phone rang out loud, and panicking, I brought it out, almost fumbling it.

Damn it! Panic does not work well with me.

Deep breath, deep breath. The tiny voice in my head repeated like a broken record.

I looked down to see Liam’s name on the screen. Not answering him should obviously give him the message that I don’t want to talk to him!

He just can't be patient!

I ended the call, and barely three steps forward, my phone rang again. This time it was Michael.

I froze in place. If my heart wasn’t already flying out of my body, then now it was. My brain seemed to have

Stacey’s POV:I rushed to the door but slipped and almost fell. My heart dropped as the beeping noise kept going on outside, and I heard the other door open. I found my footing and moved to the door before pulling it open fast, and I jumped out.Scanning the room, I saw the nurse and the doctor; relief flooded my system. Noah was looking at me with a playful grin. Oh my God! He's fine. I took a deep breath and walked towards them."What happened? What was that sound?" I could still hear my heartbeat in my ears, and my fingers trembled from my little panic attack."Nothing to worry about," Noah smiled, but I looked at the nurse instead."He just accidentally pulled on the tubes that caused the machine to go haywire." But he's fine. Like he said, nothing to worry about."The doctor looked a bit shaken, but he remained quiet as he stared at the patient board. "Doc?" I questioned again, and he raised his head to look at me before closing the book."Oh, he’s fine, don’t worry, just some

Stacey’s POV:My thoughts felt like broken glass inside my skull, sharp, scattered, and impossible to gather. I stood frozen in the kitchen, back pressed against the counter, my mind spinning with questions I couldn’t answer. My fingers clutched the edge of the counter as if grounding myself to reality, yet even that felt flimsy.Liam.His name was a whisper, a ghost. He was here. He was really here two nights ago, saying those impossible things, asking me to come back. Begging. It should’ve felt satisfying to see him brought low, but instead, it just left me hollow. I’d watched the security footage three times this morning just to convince myself I hadn’t dreamed it.I didn’t even hear the sizzle at first.A curl of smoke hit my nostrils, and my eyes widened in panic. I lunged toward the stove, heart racing. The pot was seconds away from turning into a burnt disaster. I yanked it off the heat, breath shaky. Just one more second, and I might've set the damn house on fire."Mummy!" Tes

Stacey's POV:The city lights blurred as I sped through the night, my hands gripping the wheel tighter than necessary. I was late. Late to see Noah. Late to ease the guilt clawing at my chest. I could still feel his blood on me. Even after three showers, I swore it was still there. The rusty crimson hue haunted my palms. He bled for me. He almost died for me.A honk jerked me back to reality. I blinked, realized I’d missed a red light, and forced myself to breathe. Inhale. Exhale. I had to pull it together. I had to be strong, for Noah. I glanced at the flowers lying on the passenger seat beside me, petals trembling with each bump in the road. Would he like them? Would he even want to see me?He shouldn’t be lying in a hospital bed. He should be out there on the court, practicing his shots, laughing with teammates, and preparing for the interstate championship. Not nursing bruises and a bullet graze because he chose to protect me. I should be the one in pain. Not him. Never him.I par

Noah’s POV:“Pass, Baker!” The coach yelled, snapping me out of my thoughts. What is that woman doing to you?I passed the ball over to Jason, and he tossed it into the net.“Okay, team, huddle up.” We surrounded the coach, and as if I knew, his attention was on me. “What’s going on with you out there, Baker? If you play like this for the state championship, then we’re as good as sitting ducks out there.” His eyes narrowed at me. “Yeah, you’re right. I’m sorry, Coach. I promise I won’t disappoint then.” The state championship would be the ultimate decider if I was ever going to be a professional player or not, so I needed to do well.“Okay, let’s practice some more,” the coach stated. The team reset, fanning out across the court, and I slid into position, bouncing lightly on my feet. My mind was locked in. No distractions. No drama. Just the ball, the court, and the fire under my skin. The whistle blew. And I moved. This time, I didn’t hesitate. I read the defense like a map I’d mem

Stacey’s POV:“Heyy, I’m home.” I yelled out, tossing my shoes as I closed the door behind me. Soon I saw Tessa running towards me.“Mummy, you’re home!!” She jumped on me, squeezing my waist. I carried her up, kissing her forehead.“Sweetie, how was school?” Just then, Chloe came in behind her with a smirk on her face.“You’re late today. Anything exciting happen?” I looked at Chloe, giving her a warning look, hoping she got the message.“Tessa, why don’t you go play?” I dropped her down, and she ran back to her room.Chloe slowly walked to the kitchen, grabbing a soda from the fridge. “You’re glowing,” she said, taking a sip. “Like, suspiciously glowing. That post-kiss glow? Or maybe it’s the ‘I just saw him without his shirt on’ glow?”I rolled my eyes and walked past her toward the sink, pretending to be busy rinsing out a mug. “Don’t start.”“I’m just saying,” she went on, her tone cheesy now. “You’re all smiley and floaty. You were basically humming when you came in. That’s not
