Lia’s POV

He stood at the door.

Kade.

His suit jacket was gone this time, his shirt wrinkled and half-unbuttoned, the white fabric stained beside the collar. His hair was messy, as if he had run his hands through it many times.

But it was his eyes… that glued me to a place. Then the smell hit me next: whiskey. It was strong and sharp, clinging to him like a second skin. Kade stood in the frame, his face shadowed, but his rage was unmistakable.

His jaw clenched, hands balled into fists at his sides. Something inside him had snapped. “Get up,” he commanded, his voice low and cruel. This wasn't the calm, controlled Kade I’d known, this was something else…something dangerous.

I didn’t move, rather my legs refused to.

“Lia!” He barked, “Get the fuck up.” The sound echoed off the walls as he stepped inside, closing the door with a slam that made me flinch. “I said, get up.”
